Song Description
of hope
Lyrics:
Glimmerendlessly hidden in the haze
remembering fires from the skies
convergent series of todays
shining a spotlight on the lies
we found a glimmer in your eyes
escaping from this tired maze
pouring the water of surprise
the final embers of this blaze
remembering fires from the skies
we found a glimmer in your eyes

Fantastic!

SmokeyVW
perhaps it's psychedelic rock?
thanks
Char
There's a sense of foreboding,... "fires from the skies."
And, then some hope,..."glimmer in your eyes."
Very good song. Laid back. Thought-provoking. Thanks.
SmokeyVW
I finished this one a couple of days late.
thanks

Cool stuff ..!!!
SmokeyVW
thx Feter!

One of my faves in your rock ouvre - definitely psychedelic. One hell of a chord progression you get going there. Is that your signature keyboard lead guitar? Awesome.
SmokeyVW
long time no see!
glad you liked this - main chords are E / G / C / D / - I really like the G to C, it's like a V-I out of context. i'm sure it's been used before...
Char nailed it: this is a song of foreboding hopefulness.
thanks
off to see your Burning Man thread

This is great bill! (is that you??)
SmokeyVW
c'est moi - with the glimmer in my eyes
thanks!

This is how do you say perfect I think stronger drums in some parts would pull it up a level besides that This is like a boat ride that turns into a yellow submarine trip then you get eaten by a purple meanie and slip through the hole in me pocket.. sorry this is just such a great trip I dont know what Im talking about. Greeat poetry by the way!
SmokeyVW
i hear you about the drums... i only used chopped up GB loops for those - i guess the dynamics just don't cut it.
maybe psychedelic is a better category - that discordant stuff is pretty dissociative - isn't it?
i'm happy someone noted the lyrics - i spent a while trying to get it just right
many thanks
davisamerica
stop it ... man u so make me wanna delete ... your "rock" makes my roll
SmokeyVW
don't delete! this little ditty is not all that good. all i can hear are the flaws. bogus guitar lead, processed vocals, fake drums... you could do better easily: wanna cover it? please! please!
thanks

In no order.
Vocal treatment with just the right touch to the effects and some cool doubling of the voice that then splits into harmonies. cool
The bridge and the chord progressions throughout.
the driving beat.
cool guitar lead laid in just right.
good arrangement throughout with a nice build.
could fade out at the end ... feels like the kind of song that should fade.
SmokeyVW
i had fun with the vocals. i tried a new process: i recorded the vocals in a monotone, figured out the harmony later on, and pitchshifted it all in GarageBand.
the bridge is the first thing i made up a few months ago, and it sat idle for a long while.
for drums i used a mix of several real audio loops and synth drum loops -chopped and spiced with some handmade fills. perhaps they need to be a tad more upfront.
the guitar lead was played on keyboard. i struggled with where to fit it in the arrangement. after i had embellished the bridge to ridiculous extremes, putting the lead between verse 1 and verse 2 seemed to work for pacing - it's almost like a bridge in a way...
i was not sure about the ending - fades same like a cheat, but maybe here it would be appropriate?
thanks

I agree with you in general about fades ... they seem to be a cheat, but here it would be really cool cause the idea of the song is endless memories therefore an endless song.
SmokeyVW
an excellent point

I love the dischords towards the end - but what a driving rhythm - like a human machine that cant be stopped.I just managed to pinch a decent pair of headphones after a year of listening on rubbish little walkman type things with no presence and this is the first track ive listened to! what a wake up to sound.
Regards - Richard
SmokeyVW
i feel honored to have firsties on your new acquistion
i really pushed discordance here for a specific purpose... tossing in major sevenths chords where they don't belong, and making those string loops go boldly where no loop has gone before...
thanks!

The music bed is fantastic, I like the vocal compliment. The violin is genius. Very 3 dimensional. Thanks for sharing.

My pupils got big listening to this.
Jeepers! You did a swell job here.

One of the coolest sounds that I've heard here, or anywhere, in a long time. Very well done, Bill. Thanks for the trip! Macca

This is great. I love the vocal on this - the delivery and voice sound great. Good lyrics, with some really intriguing lines. Nice groove, and the break with the strings is very effective. A great piece of electro pop, with a terrific sound, and a nice sentiment. Very nicely done. Peace.
VicDiesel
You've taken a fairly normal song and made it into a halucinatory experience with those weird string parts and all. Very nice!
DWL
very involving. Fantastic invention, bizarre chord progressions. A little unsettling but I like it.
Cheers

this is really cool, i love the way you play the guitar part like a keyboard part right before the solo. very disorienting. the vocals are what's really grabbing me though. this is really great Bill, the genre doesn't matter to me, but in my iTunes it would go under post-punk.
lengold
fantastic - hypnotically catchy. Very, very creative as always and a real treat. Fantastic production. Downloaded. Thanks.
Cheers
