Lyrics
Nobody Home - written February 2003 written

I was driving back home when my car broke down.
It was a hot sticky day and I was outside of town ,
Some fixing was needed at the side of the road,
‘Cos it looked to me like it was gonna explode.

Something had to be done the day was turning out sour,
So I rang myself a breakdown that was a twenty four hour,
I waited a while for them to get to the phone,
When an answer machine told me there’s nobody home.

Nobody home but we’ll be back in a while,
Back in a while you’re gonna have to re dial,
Nobody home we’re out ‘til who knows when,
But we’re a twenty four hour so you can call us again.

I spent about an hour walkin’ to and fro,
There was nothing I could but go along with the flow,
So I tried once more when I got the tone,
You’d better ring back because there’s nobody home

Nobody home but we’ll be back in a while,
Back in a while you’re gonna have to re dial,
Nobody home we’re out ‘til who knows when,
But we’re a twenty four hour so you can call us again.

BREAK 8 BARS

I knew by now that I was wasting my time,
I’d used up all money and it was hitting on nine,
I abandoned my motor and was on my way,
But I must have heard those words a dozen times today

Nobody home but we’ll be back in a while,
Back in a while you’re gonna have to re dial,
Nobody home we’re out ‘til who knows when,
But we’re a twenty four hour so you can call us again.

Very cool
Nice tune, and really enjoyable story told in the lyrics. That's the kind of thing you couldn't make up! Nicely done. Peace.

I just love
those lyrics John - I know exactly how you felt.
Great foot tapping rock 'n roll and fantastic guitar breaks. Ace production too.
Another woofer classic.
Cheers

thank you Dick
Just a bit of a jam I suppose really - I don't think I'm going to be another Harry Warren I don't think unless I learn at least one more chord.

Best wishes,

John

Can you tell a story, man!
Absolutely great lyrics and your vocals, composition is great as well. Man, I'd love to hear some boogie guitar throughout. But the solo breaks are fantastic. As for the true story, well, ouch! Glad to see it was of some musical inspiration, though. You're one of the better songwriting talents, really something great.

Honky Tonk Piano.
"But we%u2019re a twenty four hour so you can call us again."

Yeah, that's inspiration for the blues. Nothing to do but write some music. It might have been worth it. this is good. Thanks.

Hi there
Yes, but actually it was in Ton Pentre. I used to go up there once a week with a job I was doing. The people up there were great and one lady there always used to make me lunch. Her name was Mrs.Jones and she eventually went to live in Porthcawl. Isn't that interesting. I'm writing a long reply as it took me so long to get back to this page I thought I'd make it worth while with some really interesting background stuff about the song. What happens is that I press submit, like I will in a minute with this and then it tells me it can't find the page I requested, though I haven't actually requested a page ! anyway after that another page comes up and so it goes on. It used to be fine until they improved it.

Thank you for commenting anyway Wendy, that's what I really wanted to say.

John.

Recording
Another good song from the woof!

How are you recording your songs now? They sound cleaner.

hi Tim
I'm glad you like this - there are a few little things I've been doing to try and improve my recordings, the problem I have is that everything is done from scratch - I have no loops and everything I know is completely self taught, however I have tried to learn about compression and separation and a few other things and I think it's starting to pay off- though as I've said before there is an element of luck with my productions!!!! I'm not joking.
