Description:
I wrote this song to celebrate the rising feeling of nationhood in Scotland, it tries to describe the ways in which music and poetry has been used down the centuries to sustain us. I would take care to point out that it is in no way anti-English and there's even a nod to Shakespeare. This may not be the final arrnagment but I love it anyway.

Lyrics:
Welcome The Morn

When we leave aw oor rovin’
Still oor wand’rin’ ways
Wi’ every thrawn road and loanin
Lost abin the braes
Then doon fa’ tae sleeping
An’ dream o’er the linn
O’ the burn that flowed free there
An’ aw the lang days sin’

Though it may snaw in the forest
Tae crown the hawthorn
Bluebells will floo’er
Whether we’re here or gone
An’ wae night birds trillin’
Frae dusk tae dawn
Tae welcome the morn

But we fell in wi’ tinkers
Guid chanters, blaw an’ bow
Tae play reels an’ slippit jigs
'til the auld cock crow
Wi’ fine airs and verses
Coorse couplets and quatrains
Writ in lo’e o’ this nation
Its faithers and its weans

Though it may snaw in the forest…

For noo a day is dawnin’
When lions will arise
Fae deep slumber wrapt warm
In weary lullabies
Tae send rogues and reivers
Fairin’ for their lives
Skippin’ oor the siller hem
Tae merry English wives

Though it may snaw in the forest …

your comments are always so generous! I wasn't sure how this song would be received as it's very much written in the Scots dialect but hopefully the sentiment comes across even if the words are difficult for people to understand. We worked really hard on this and I'm not sure we've got it quite right yet but it's getting there!

Tae welcome the morn. &mdash 09/16/08 - 05:00:51 PM
It is easy enough to figure out most of the dialect and I agree it lends character to the piece.
I love Celtic, folk and bluegrass because of the intimacy, story telling and gentle warmth. You have all of this. Ah, this and a plate of haggis! Thank you.

So well put together, lyrics are a painting. The music handled the lyrics with the respect they deserve. Well done. Damn, no download ;-(

Love the guitar work here, but the singing in harmony is jaw-dropping gorgeous... partly because it is not "studio-perfect", but instead it is honest and heartfelt. Absolutely love the writing, the music keeps me on the edge of my seat listening. Your two voices are beautifully matched. So glad to have bumped into you, faved the song and the artist :-) I shall be back to enjoy more of your well-crafted music. A terribly belated welcome to Macjams :-)
