Cozy tune &mdash 09/19/08 - 10:51:25 AM
Nice to hear you post again!
This is a cozy piece and fits well with the coming fall. It would be great to hear your combo. You guys ever play together for fun?

You got it- &mdash 09/19/08 - 03:51:11 PM
That is indeed the Mackinac Bridge. We really enjoy visiting that area. My husband took the photo - I should give him the credit. Thanks for commenting! [ Reply to This ]

Yay! &mdash 09/19/08 - 10:59:12 AM
Always fun to hear your stuff... this is very nicely scored & composed. Very wholesome sound to it, enjoyable and emotional-sounding, even with synth playback. And, you did a good job of adding dynamics here, the clarinet especially sounds nicely realistic. However, just in case you get your hubby and son to read this, it does lack the full warmth of people playing it... and I would LOVE to hear them perform it. And, your husband and son might look back someday and regret not having much of the two of them recording together... I only got one quick silly duet of my son and I on clarinets years ago, sigh. It is worth setting aside some time to practice and record this, it is really a heart-warming piece.

Hey, Drak - &mdash 09/19/08 - 04:02:04 PM
I'm so glad you came by. It's nice to see you still remember me :)
I'll keep on working on them to record with me. My son and his brother and friends are doing a rock band kind of thing, and they're recording themselves doing that, so maybe I'll be posting something with them here. I can only hope. [ Reply to This ]

I'm glad this was what you were interested in hearing, tonight! When we play together, I play guitar, my son, Steven plays clarinet, and my husband, Bob, plays the bassoon. My husband has heard more 'fagott' jokes than anyone should have to put up with in a lifetime, but that's what happens when you play an instrument with a history, like the bassoon.
"What's the difference between a bassoon and an oboe?"
"The bassoon burns longer." :) [ Reply to This ]

Another waltz lover! &mdash 09/19/08 - 07:52:11 PM
I love anything that's not in 4/4 time. I think that's one of the things that makes John Williams such a good film score composer. He is one of the few who seems totally comfortable in 3/4 and 6/8 time - not just for effect, but for entire songs. It's subtle, but important on a subconscious level. I didn't discover that until I was teaching time signatures to students, and was using samples from my iPod for review. Anyway - thanks for coming around. I'm going to have to wake up the lazy 'finish things up' side of my brain so I can get back to posting more stuff. [ Reply to This ]

I'm glad you got to listen, and you enjoy it. I've been unable , for one reason or another, to get songs posted here recently, so this is actually an older song, kind of cleaned up for the page. It's one of my husband's favorites.
I do love sharing, and I'm looking to finish up a piece that is giving me some troubles right now. Maybe I can finish it next week. [ Reply to This ]
Would love to hear this live &mdash 09/19/08 - 06:35:23 PM
A very sweet piece.
I can't help thinking how different it would sound with real instruments. The bassoon wouldn't be so thin sounding, and the duets between clarinet and bassoon would come out better.
Tell your husband and son that here's their chance at immortality! Guys, get off your lazy asses and record this thing with Kristy! [ Reply to This ]

close my eyes and twirl around the room... real instruments would be nice but the whole thing comes across so well anyway... I love the melodic nature of this... a little melancholy maybe, but somewhat hopeful too... it seems to me....
I used to ski up there a lifetime ago...

Waltz time. I'm glad you do, too. I've never been skiing up in that area, but I love visiting in the summer and autumn!

nice melodies. i really like this, but i am also with the chorus of folks chanting for the whole family to record. i'm charmed that you guys play together. my little girl is only 18 months, but we have music time every day, and if she doesn't record with me when the the time comes, then she can forget about going out this weekend. It is almost too beautiful too fit in my dark fall.
But it sure helps me a lot to face the darkness who is knocking on my door.. Outstanding piece of work... So good to see you have a new post.
Take care

...sweet little tune, KJ. You never stray from the simplicity of the melody or arrangement. I agree with Drak about the dynamics: you seem to filled them in quite nicely and with excellent effect. It is good to hear your music again and I hope there will be more of it soon. You have a gentle style that avoids any kind of posturing. Just beautiful.
Peace,

Just beautiful; I've always wanted to play with my eldest daughter, a very talented clarinet player, and my youngest daughter, an aspiring piano player. What a joy that must be when it happens. This piece evokes comfort and warmth; would love to hear it on the real instruments. Way to go, Kristyjo.

This is a really nice melody... &mdash 09/24/08 - 08:14:43 PM
I'm with the bunch that would love, really love, to hear this performed on real instruments. Even so, there's so much here with the software instruments...One of those instrumental tunes that I love where the tune itself seems to have implicit words just lurking in the background...
A good feeling to this, and it just kind of 'feels family'...
