Description:
There's this dude on icompositions named "bigt93to98" who writes some awesome americana, he was kind enough to let me cover this tune. I sent the file to Bob6stringer to add some rockabilly flavor, and gladly he obliged.
Lyrics:
Got knocked down in RenoAnd I didn't get up til Terre Haute
Turns out that gal who runs the keno
Finds you much less charmin' when you're broke
I guess I shoulda seen it comin'
When I was cut down at the knees
By that bird tendin' bar
At that joint near Loogatee
Well Indiana girls
Aren't usually that cruel
But she was an exception to the rule
Had my troubles in Topanga
With a hippie chick who was a real dish
She complained about my leather shoes
And the fact I like to fish
She turned me to a vegan
Then left me high and dry
For some long tall Texas oilman
Who ran cattle on the side
Well California women
Usually are cool
But she was an exception to the rule
Found myself wandering the east coast
Off the rails and on the skids
Got caught up with a lady
Who used to babysit Madonna's kids
She was an auburn headed beauty
And much to my surprise
She took great pride in loyalty
And found no use in lies
Now New York City women
Will take a simple man to school
But she was an exception to that rule

I wonder how many artist count on you for emotional support, I know I do. Thanks
Bob6stringer
There it is - glad to see you got what you liked here, and glad to help add to the mix. Nice upgrade on those on the drums and bass from the earlier mix I heard. Your voice is great here and does justice to Big 93's extremely clever turn of phrase. You picked a good one. BTW our own pen does wonders, too.

Your guitar work fit perfect in this one. One day I hope to write a lyric as well as big 93. Cheers

Like a cool breeze it wafts around the canyons of my empty head. Great vocal, marvelous lyric - it's a 10.

One day I hope to write a story song like this, but It probably won't happen. Cheers
Vic Holman
nicely done. the drums and bass hold a nice rhythm together. nicely done vocals, the slap back reverb is very fitting.
and Bob added some really nice fretwork here as well.
good job guys!

One day it would be nice to play with a real drummer and bassist, but for now I'll be content with midi and loops.....there are a lot of great guitarists around here, present company included, but when I thought a bout who could add the perfect flavor to this one, I thought B6s. Thanks for the listen.

Loving this song!

Still waiting for your next hit.

This is a great tune - I like the way it dissolves into a front porch jam at the end and I like the pretty little lead noodlings throughout. You have a great voice with lots of ring - I'm jealous - you sing like a grown up. I'm making my way through your stuff and it's the best Americana i've heard on MJ - thanks for sharing it!

noodles, Im getting hungry, Thanks for the listen.

I'll have to poke on over to Icomp to check out the original. But your delivery on this is spot on. I'm on this 100%
buckhorn
Although I consider the work at MJ to be among the best, I think there's some great folky stuff over at icomp. Also check out Dylan, gumbostu, and the soft coffin if you get the chance.Cheers

and verse structure. You certainly do them justice with your singing and performance.... I like the build up too, making a simple song sound so full. Loved it, cheers M

Im not sure I did justice, but it was fun, I also admire your verse writing. Thanks for stoppin' in. Regards

this is an exception to the rule. I loe the fact that it ends up with A NY girl who was alright. Very clever writing classic in its own right. Excellent!
buckhorn
appealed to me also, the story of a loser who finally finds the right one. Thanks for the listen.

your voice sounds amazing, and all of the parts are supporting it perfectly. love that vegan line. this could have been on a keith richards solo record, perfection.
buckhorn
It must have been that last blood transfusion that helped me gain that comparison....;)

make sure you don't skimp on that process, you really get what you pay for.

but not any more. Now I'm glad I Found it, it's great.
What a great song this is lyrically and musically Matt. You did a great job on it and I can tell you had a lot of fun doing this one.
As for Bob6's Rockabilly guitar, it's a perfect fit for the song.
Great job guys

I wish I wrote this one. bigt93to98 of icompositions wrote this gem. He was kind enough to let me cover it. (also covered by Dylan of icompositions) I related to it right from the start. After hearing some of Bobs "Farmagedon stuff", I thought he was the perfect one to add some true rockabilly flavor. Thanks for the listen. Regards
