Elivis (1)Wooden Heart (1)
Description:
As a kid growing up I was greatly effected by Elivis, I guess I was about 10 or 11 at the time.
I guess that was the catalyst that got me into wanting to play the guitar. One of the tunes that I dearly loved was "Wooden Heart".

I know it wasn't what you call one of his cool tunes. But I dearly, dearly loved the swiss element. I guess it was the innocence and had an austrian, swedish polka feeling. If done right that kind music gets to me every time. Upon hearing Elvis doing Wooden Heart, it just blew me away, in it's happy type of feeling. To bad happier music can't be played like this. Maybe the words are somewhat sorrowful but the music was and is quite uplifting to me. Maybe some of you felt the same way on hearing the Elvis tune.

So, though much different, that tune more than anything help inspire me to record this:
"In Memory of Wooden Heart"

I love the register you use - &mdash 09/20/08 - 09:51:26 PM
The way start this off, so delicate in that high register is perfect. Then you bring the melody down, lovely. It is happy and cheery. Your production, as usual, is excellent.

Now you got me searching the web for a video version I have of this song where he makes a glitch in the german part and starts laughing, making the band start over again... I have it as a mp3 file and will send it to you if you send me a note with your email address:)

This was my mothers favourite and I love this song much. Brings out good memories:)

Always a pleasure hearing you play Bill.

Tiler: Better than Elvis! &mdash 09/22/08 - 12:22:48 PM
It's all good, Tiler, from whatever fine mic you must be using to that crystalline picking and fretwork. This is a fine piece, and thanks for the YouTube link of Elvis hittin' on the wife of a poor, stick-wielding puppet!

I was never a big fan of Elvis; in the early days, he crooned well but obscured the great musicians behind him. Later on, well, his star just fizzled. Before I start a flame war in his defense, I'll just get back to praising your playing. Thanks!

Thanks Moviz, davis, Ziti and Bob6. &mdash 09/22/08 - 01:20:42 PM
True, bob he was pretty mega. It seemed like the president at the time was dwarfed in comparison.

If I'm not mistaken, &mdash 09/22/08 - 07:33:25 PM
"Wooden Heart" was from the movie Elvis did while he was stationed in Germany. G.I. Blues as I recall, and it starred Elvis along with Juliet Prowse. It might have actually been made after he had been discharged and the studio went back to make the movie.

I saw the movie which was a little predictable, but thoroughly enjoyable never the less, and I particularly enjoyed "Wooden Heart" from the sound track.

While this is not that song Bill, I can hear the influence of "Wooden Heart" in this piece. As always you sound and production, not to mention you playing are impeccable my friend.

Thanks for doing this, and for bringing some fond memories back to me along the way.

Kudos Bill

Be well and be cool,

Ed

Bill, I used to listen... &mdash 09/24/08 - 08:36:08 PM
...to your tunes over headphones, because I found that when I listened that way I picked up the wood and bronze and all the overtones and reverberation...

These days, your recordings of your tunes are so good that all that stuff is right there even listening somewhat casually and over speakers... Very natural, but a very full and rich version of 'natural'...Like, the natural sound of a very good guitar with a very good tune being played on it by a very good player in a very good space on a very good day...

That kind of natural...

Great one Bill! Made me feel good which was obviously it's intent. I marvel at your skill and the beauty of the melody and your guitar work. This is classic American steel string finger picking at it's best!

Betsy and you &mdash 10/04/08 - 06:51:17 PM
are a match made in heaven. I'll have to research your references to Elvis's Wooden Heart. So gentle is this song played that the memory of it stayed for long hours after the listening. In the vaults of the mind it glows, ever glistening. So peaceful. Thank you.
