Description
I know.. I know.. I said I was happy with the way it turned out last time......BUT I decided to re record it, and apply what I have learned since joining this site. I owe this site a lot, and I am very grateful for the advice and direction I have received here. So Thank you all.

The melody has a slight alteration, as well as a change in a couple of lines of the lyrics. It is arranged differently, and slowed down about 10 bpm, and comes in about the 4 minute mark, which is what I wanted for the song, as originally it was almost 7 minutes long.

This song is now open for collaboration because I really want to hear a rock piano in it. It is also open to all bass players and lead guitar players. I am neither of those, and can only play the piano with one hand or the other, never at the same time lol.

With that said, I owe all of you who were kind enough to give up technique, direction and advice. This truly is an open studio with some of the greatest musicians and songwriters I have ever known.

A shout out to Elevator Funk for planting the seed in regard to collaboration. I am looking forward to many more in the future.

Thanks to all who take the time to listen and comment. I can hardly wait to see what might come out of this collaboration.

Lyrics
The weekend is over and it went by way to fast
and it seems to take forever for five lonely days to pass
The telephone is ringin and I'm feelin way to blue
I can't bring myself to answer it cause I know that it's you
I start thinkin bout all those things I left undone
and thats when I start to wonder if I was ever meant to be the one...
Chorus
The one who holds you late at night
The one who calms the fear inside
The one who holds you oh so tight
The one who you run to when there's no place left to hide... left to hide
Solo
I know that in my past I've ignored responsibility
I've been runnin around in circles and it's finally catchin up with me
Sometimes I get so scared of what the future holds
I want us to be together girl so we can share our souls
But there's so many people who don't think that this love should be
ya but they will never know what you mean to me
Chorus
Outro
The telephone is still ringin and I'm feelin way to blue
I can't bring myself to answer it cause I know who it is I know it's you .. ya you

nice song
really nice melody on this one. unfortunately I am not that good on any of the things you are looking for, but this will be really great once you get your players together (especially the piano and bass- not sure that you need another gtr). nice track.

I am flattered that you like it. I enjoy your work very much. Hope you get Logic all sorted out. You will, I'm sure of it, and the quality of your recordings will show it. (not that they aren't already top notch) Good luck.

Nice song Guy
I haven't heard the first one, but this one hit the mark.

I think the vocal could come up just a little bit, but the voice still has all the charm I've heard in it before. Man you have a great set of pipes.

I didn't see anything wrong with your guitar lead, but a smoking lead track would pick it up a notch or to so I can see why you'd like to get one on there. The bass sounded thick and full and carried the song along with no problems. you might also want to bring the drums up a little so they can help the bass to drive the song a bit harder.

Love the lyrics Guy, it's a great song as is and will be killer with the changes you want to make, for sure.

Be well my friend and be cool,

Ed

Thanks Ed
I will give the vox a bump when and if I can get a piano player interested. I think it needs an eq adjust here and there too. I also would like a real bass player and lead guitar to have a go at it as well. It will go through a remix when I get this collaboration off the ground. No takers so far... would you be interested in playing the lead? I would be honored. Thanks for the listen and kind words and advice.

I agree. The vocals and drums both need pushed up a little more in the mix.

good one!
I'd say this one stands pretty well on its own, not really crying out for more instruments although I'm sure some piano would sound nice!
I liked the song. nice country-folk-rock vibe. Vocals sounded a bit Gordon Lightfoot-esque at times, you uber-Canadian you.

Doesn't need as much help as you seem to be saying!
This is a great tune. Your guitar lead track doesn't need a collaborator to come in and redo it, I think it fits well. If after you rethink that, and consider piano, etc., you want me to see what I might do, drop me a line here.

The bass is a little soupy, could use better definition, thought the notes your playing seem to be fine. Some EQ/compression might give it all the punch it needs.

Thank you
I am flattered by your kind words and coming from you it is high praise indeed. Thanks for the visit and kind words. I agree with your comment on the bass. I am not very good at eqing it yet. I seem to get a low frequency hum when I record it and then try to eq it out, hence pretty much fubaring it totally. I'll get it eventually.
I'm not sure what you would like to help me with, I assume from your songs you are a guitar picker (and a damn fine one at that) and if your proposing playing a lead line for it, I am totally in.
Peace

Very cool
A great recording of a great song. Nice vocal performance, although I do think it could go up a notch. I can almost hear the piano now you mention it. I hope you find someone who can do it. Either way, this is great. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

Hey Vic
thanks for the visit and kind words. You may be right about adding anything to it, but I am hoping to hear it with the piano at least. It would be nice to have a real bass line too. I just picked root notes and added an extra once in awhile. Thanks again for the listen.

great tune Guy ...
ok .. this tune stands on it's own two feet as is ... however ... agree with feter on a Hammond sounding cool and ed on the vox up a bit ... you have great pipes man! IF you would like another guitar and bass i cannot recommend APOKAFUNK enough. he is a very talented new artist here and we have used him on some tracks ... killer musician and always open to collabs. FINALLY ... man ... this is one great tune! very much enjoyed!

Nice to meet you Bill
I am flattered you like the song I have had a listen to your work and coming from a musician as fine as you it carries some weight. Thank you.

It might not be your genre, but if you are at all interested in playing piano on this song. I would be honored and stay completely out of your way with respect to what you would write for it.

Thanks again either way.

Collab?
Really? Whatever for? This sounds excellent Guy. Cleaner mix and more energy than the original.

Your vocal delivery is top-notch, and the guitar work---including the leads---seem to be just right throughout.

Perhaps...just PERHAPS...a touch of Hammond organ would be nice; but it's not at all necessary.

Minor crits: the drum track could be just a hair louder, and the fade out cuts off a tad too soon.

You rock my friend!

Be well!
guygrooves said 425 days ago (September 26th, 2008)
Hey Mike
Thanks for stopping by. You're the third person to say something about a Hammond in this. I am now wondering myself lol. I hear a piano line in my head that I have no hope of playing and if i tried to sort it out in MIDI it wouldn't have the feel I am after. A very talented pianist has approached me, and I am excited by their thoughts on the kind of piano line they hear in it. I will keep you posted. I am excited to embark upon my first collaboration here. I have you in mind for another when we settle into the throws of winter, and it slows down a bit for us. Take care my friend and thanks for the kind words and listen.

Tight!
I really don't hear anything wrong with the solo Guy, or anything else for that matter. Maybe a little more high end on the bass for clarity, but I think it sounds good.
If you would really like a solo, I'll give it a shot for ya, but I think what you have fits perfectly.

Well done!

Excellent
Hi Guy, this is a great rocking number. Vocals as usual are top notch. The instruments work for me just as they are - the electric guitar does its job brilliantly providing plenty of meat but not overpowering the vocals. The stereo seperation of electric and acoustic guitars lets you hear them both clearly (a trick I'll remember!). Maybe some more bass in the mix would be good (but that might be due to my not so good quality headphones).
Waiting your next post already
Cheers
Steve

Hey Steve
thank you for stopping by and listening so carefully. I would say your headphones are pretty good for cheap ones. I upgraded to studio cans after this mix and I hear it too. I am currently remixing it for a couple piano players and a guitar player who have expressed an interest in adding their touch. It will have a bigger bottom end, and the bass will have more definition. Thanks again for the visit and kind comments.
Peace

Late to the party I'm afraid
This rolls along nicely.

Sounds good as it is but I'd probably drop the electric rhythm during the verses and let the acoustic carry it. Nice sound on the acoustic btw.

If I had any time I'd love to collab, especially on good songs like this but I'm struggling with what I've got at the moment :-(

Cheers

Dick
guygrooves said 417 days ago (October 3rd, 2008)
No Problem Dick
I know what you mean brother. I have a remix ready for a piano player and currently the Electric guitar is out completely. I'll reconsider the lead break if the piano player isn't going to play a lead line. I actually followed a description of how rsorensen records his acoustic. I have another song almost done with the acoustic dialed in even more. Thanks for the kind words and suggestions.
Peace

Good song
Great singing and great playing. This is a nice, catchy song. The production is really good, although the electric guitars are a tad harsh for me. I think it would be a bit easier on the ears if the acoustic guitar dominated the verses a bit more. Maybe use the fuzzy guitar sound a bit more sparingly. Nice work, though.

Coming from you, I am indeed flattered. I have listened to a handful of your tunes and will return for more. Thanks again for the listen, kind words and advice. Btw the electric guitar will be different in the next version as I would have to agree with you on your thoughts about it.

anytime I want
to be motivated, I just listen to this version of the song....I really like all of the different recordings, but this one I gravitate to the most....the guitar, your vocals, the beat, especially with the headset and the new Mac....amazing all on it's own...a #1fav for sure....
Thanks for sharing your gift of music Guy...
