Description:
Here's my entry to Loop It Or Lose It 8.......

Boy, did I have a gas with this one. Walking Clav 01 runs throughout the entire song, channeled into a clavinet, bass and piano. (The Clav was dipped into 'Filter Ducks' wah-wah, which inspired the title.) All I did was write a tune around that quirky little loop and throw plenty of horns and saxophones at it. And no synths - a real change of pace for me. (Well, technically they're all synths, since everything here is created using the GB3 pencil tool, but you know what I mean.)

And the vocals! Man, I remember when I was deeply nervous about putting my voice to anything going to MacJams. Now I could care less - the MJ community is such a hoot to hang out with I feel free enough to something as loony as this.

And finally....... I have no idea what this 'funkaduck' the singer is singing of actually is. Not a clue.

(There actually IS an effects pedal called the 'Funk-A-Duck'. Maybe that's it.)

Lyrics:
Funkaduck

I'm working every night
While the streetlights shine
While all the A-list pretty people
Wine and dine

But that's okay by me
They don't see what I see
Funkaduck keeps me right on key
Tonight...

The night is a woman
That you never know
She wears a black leather coat
And it ain't just for show
But I can hear her music
I can hear her rhyme

Funkaduck keeps me right on time
Tonight...

Sick of the loop &mdash 09/27/08 - 01:58:21 PM
You and me both. It's a jaw-dropper as to what we've been able to do with it, though......... and a riot listening. Glad you joined in - a Loop It or Lose It without you would have been wrong on so many levels!

I loved your animated duck &mdash 09/26/08 - 05:47:21 AM
and the gravelly voice. Hope you didn't break a string.
That was fun. And I'm so glad it was good for you. Ah, but did the song expose LIOLI for the quack we all know he is? He ducked Smokey's feedback loop and got hit anyway. He's probably crying wah, wah to his Mommy, because you hit him as he was coming up for air.
Thanks. :)

Animated Duck &mdash 09/28/08 - 08:12:37 AM
....if you've got an animated duck, well then you know everything's going to be okay. We all know Doc L is a quack, but he's a persistent bugger indeed.

Love it &mdash 09/26/08 - 02:30:45 PM
Great sound on the loop, and the vocal is terrific - great bluesy voice. Love the lyrics, too ("The night is a woman/That you never know/She wears a black leather coat/ And it ain't just for show" - my favorite part!) and the production is top-notch. Funkadelic indeed. Nicely done, and let me add my thanks for setting this thing up. It's been a blast to work on. Peace.

That voice is a lot of fun, tho I haven't used it for a long time. I wrote the lyrics in a hotel room the day before I posted the song - originally there were no lyrics at all. I kind of like them myself!

Pencil Tool &mdash 09/28/08 - 08:18:34 AM
I'm still learning about GarageBand and discovering new and slick tricks it can do. I never leave home without my trusty pencil tool, sharpened and ready to get funky!

Love the voice. This is my second entry listen and I must say you should have waited until last, because you are setting the bar very high for the rest of us loopers. You make it sound like you actually like the loop! Fun Stuff!

Thanks

Shade of Disco Duck &mdash 09/27/08 - 09:53:13 AM
You beat this thing up and tore it a new A** my friend. This is right out of the 70s disco era if ever I heard anything that was and that is so cool. Very cool track Rik. I kept waiting for Donna Summer to pop up somewhere in this.

Fantastic my friend, loved it for sure.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

As I listened... &mdash 09/27/08 - 03:51:40 PM
...to the beginning the DISTURBING image of John Travolta on the disco floor came to mind! Then---of a sudden---I was rescued when that wonderful, gravelly vocal came grinding forth outta the mix! AWESOME!

Your keyboard soloing is fabulous, as is your "horn section" throughout. (I may have to hire those guys on a future track!)

Welcome back my friend to the show that never ends.

Be well!

Now here's a situation fraught with danger &mdash 09/27/08 - 09:00:37 PM
We have a Super Looper force to use a Windoz box to fire a salvo at the Evil Dr. Not to worry citizens, this is a seasoned veteran here who knows how to confound a Windoz box. And so you will know in the future I'm going to tell you. TURN IT ON !

Very well done, you slipped this magnificent weapon in and fired it off right under their noses. This is sure to take them by surprise and have devastating effect on the Q-37 LOPMAL-CARSAP system.

Most excellent work

funks my duck (or does it duck my funk?). Great stuff, the evil Dr must be getting sick of this clav loop by now!

Funktastic &mdash 09/28/08 - 02:25:34 PM
composition. Definitely on target for the prerequisites on this little baby.

Great control and manipulation on the key changes for the progression. What are you using for transition number scale for such? Key per value.

All round sterling production here. I think you were to advanced for the band you were with and good thing come around in the accordance of there time and place on this mortal coil.

Great flick of a cover with your roller duck. I guess I'll tune in for you next post. Way to go....amigo

Booooom!!! &mdash 09/29/08 - 09:46:34 PM
Horns and pianos are so crispy and bright and your filthy vocals.... Oingo Boingo meets ZZ Top or something really twisted like that.

Excellent production and really inventive songwriting.
