Something Blue

Description
This is a mood. I found it when I was alone, late at night and I looked out the window and saw the Moon. I realized that not even the Moon is really alone, and although it sometimes feels like we are alone, we're not.

Sometimes, in this up side down world, it doesn't always feel that way. But the Blue we feel is really on the inside, not on the outside.

So for when you feeling Blue, listen and remember, none of us are alone unless we choose to be.

I hope you enjoy "Something Blue"

Be well and be cool,

Ed

Always the 1st one
I don't know how you manage to do that so often Feter, but you do, and for that I thank you my friend.

I am very happy that you enjoyed "Something Blue". I have a special feeling for this piece. It is "a mood" that I have felt at times in my life and I finally figured out how to express it in music.

Thank you for listening and for the kind words my friend, I realy appreciate it.

Take care, be well and be cool Mr. McBlues

Such a pretty start
on the piano. I heard some twangy country sounds and then there is that infectious drum beat. Funny thing is that I wrote in chat, "none of us are alone" to someone else but I was really trying to convince myself. I get it. Beautiful artwork as well. Thanks.

Thank you Char
Glad you enjoyed not being alone, and the music to go along with it.

I was in a mood when I put this together, and I think I captured that mood. Thanks for listening and for the confirmation about "Not being alone"

Be well and be cool Char,

I
really like the interplay of the piano and guitars, Ed! As always, your guitar picking is tasty and full of soul. I would have liked to hear some of the guitar fills in the background a little louder. Great work!

Thanks B
I thought about bringing the guitars up, and actually did for a time. But then I realized that I didn't want the guitars to be the focus of the piece. More, I wanted the overall feel to be one of a sort of state of mind. Bringing them back down accomplished that and made the whole piece more subtle and moody, which is where I was when I put it together, moody.

I'm happy you listened to it and happier still you enjoyed it and sent along your kind words on it.

Thanks again for listening B.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

Not sure I ever heard anything quite like this, Ed.

But it sure is tasty. Nicely done, my friend. ;)

I have this thing about genre. I think anything is fair game, including any instrument, as long as it expresses the feeling you want to portray. So for me, using a steel guitar in a Jazz/Blues piece just seemed to fit.

In this song, it's all about the mood, and I think that comes through. I'm really glad you enjoyed this one Joe. Thank you again for listening to it and for the kind words. If it's nothing else, it's different.

Be well and be cool my friend,

Ed

Right then Jack
I have a spy working on the payroll that told me most of the details on your project so I hurried up my work to beat you to the draw. ;-)

All kidding aside, I look forward to hearing your song Jack. It' will be interesting to hear what you do with "Those Loops".

Thanks for coming by to listen to my version, and for the great comments on it. It's nice to know that sometimes I can get it right, or nearly so.

Be well and be cool Jack. By the way, send me a note when you get yours posted, I do want to hear it.

Nice
blue moody feel to this Ed(not Moody Blues.... then again, maybe it is) sort of a cross country/jazz feel, but very comfortable, with a pensive feel to it, regards M

Just a little laid back music to contemplate your navel by is all it is. When all else fails, an easy going piece like this can settle down the spirit and let you get on with enjoying life. It won't take the Blues away, but it will calm them.

At least that what this has done for me anyway. Thanks for listening my friend and for the kind words. I do appreciate that very much.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

Lovely
This is really lovely, Ed. I pressed play and found myself mesmerized. The mood is sad at first glance, I guess, but filled with hope, lovely streamers of lighter moods, and a calm, accepting view of the world. Lovely production on this, too. The instruments really mesh together, creating a tapestry of sound. Lovely guitar work - really sweet sound, and very nice playing. One of your best, my friend. Very cool. Thanks for sharing this with us. Kudos. Peace.

I'm really glad you liked this one. It was a personal statement about being alone yet not really being alone. I've felt that way a lot in my life, but this is the first thing I've ever recorded that I felt expressed it. I can tell by your words that you got it, and for that I am grateful.

Thanks again for listening and for the kind words. but most of all, thanks for getting it.

I wanted to keep everyone relaxed and just chillin' with this one. Set the mood to blue without the blues, sad without the sorrow and hopeful without the hype. Did I get there? Who knows, but thats the way it feels to me.

Thanks again for listening Bob and for the kind words, they are appreciated. Glad you enjoyed this one my friend.

Glad you stopped in to listen to this one Bill. I was in a mood, and I wanted to share it with y'all. I wasn't sure about the Pedal Steel in a Jazz piece, but it seems to add to it and not take anything away, so I used it. I like how it turned out.

I'm glad to see you agree and that you enjoyed the music. Thanks again for the kind words, they are very much appreciated my friend.

I wonder, has anyone notice that the moon is upside down. I think this is how it must look from Neil's house (jiguma) NSW Australia

Hi there buddy. Glad you came over and caught this one. It' kind of a special song for me because I've felt the way this song sounds, but I was never able to capture it in music before now.

Thanks again for listening my friend it means a lot to me. And thanks to for the kind words which are very much appreciated.

Rings out!
A very lovely and gently uplifting tune Ed. Your piano rings like a bell. The rhythm section carries everything along nicely, and your guitars float over and wind their way in and out of the cloud of sound music bed you have laid down.

Exceptionally good recording mix-wise too...

Enjoyed it thoroughly!

Be well brother!

It's the mood I was in and one I've felt before in my life. Finally found a way to express it in sound, and this it right on the mark.

Thanks again for listening and for all the great comments my friend. It means a lot to this old man to hear nice things about a piece like this one.

I'm probably not the first person to use a pedal steel in a piece like this, but I may be the second or third. I like doing the unexpected in a way that's, well, unexpected.

When I wrote this one I was in a mood and I wanted to share that with anyone who's care to listed. I'm glad you listened and picked up on it my friend. Also that you enjoyed the ride and were kind enough to send along some kind words on it.

Be well and be cool, Tim,

Thanks you Gail
I love music, period. In all it's forms and with all the ways it expresses the human condition. Your music is some of the best posted here. I think it is because you feel and express those feelings so well on your Piano that the listener is drawn into the music and shares your feelings as a result..

I don't have the technical playing skills to do that on a piano in all the ways I want to make music, but I still feel it and express it in whatever way I can. And while this song is "Just" loops, it still says what I wanted it to say. It still expresses the feelings I felt when I "wrote it"

So I will continue to make music that feels something and expresses it, and I will do it in what ever way works to get those feeling across to the people listening. I just wish it had not taken so many years for me to get back to making music. So much of my playing skills was lost over those years from lack of use that it makes it very difficult, and it's a real shame. Thanks God for GB and Logic, and the loops.

Thanks you Gail, for your wonderful comments on "Something Blue". I hope you are not terribly disappointed by what I've said.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

I am...
...totally drawn in, Ed. This has such a smooth feel to it. You have obviously paid very close attention to the mix because you bring out leads at just the right spots and with a very controlled accompaniment. The percussion track is so nice with this number. And I love your piano playing. It is so complementary to the whole. I think you have caught a new fan.
Peace.

Glad you enjoyed this quiet little interlude. it's just something I could never get expressed in music before. Can't say that anymore now can I?

I'm glad you dropped in for a listen and enjoyed the track my friend. It represents a mood I've felt in my life that I could never get on tape until now.

You're right about Macjams being a place that encourages experimentation. I've done a lot of it since I've been here. All my life there have been sounds and feeling in my head that were hard to put down on tape. With MacJams, my iMac, Garage Band, and Logic I've been able to answer the call.

Thanks again for the visit Bill.
