Description:
Sorry to post this early, my kid is sick, so there is a good chance I won't be around for a couple of days. This was pretty fun to do, i turned the loop into a drum part and a bass/synth part. I was trying to channel a few different vibes at once: Magazine, Gang of Four, Can, Tones on Tail, Visage, Dead or Alive, some disco, Fugiya and Miyagi.... I would never have written a song like this if it weren't for the challenge. No introspection here, just me tossing together some lyrics based on how I felt when i met my wife years ago. Think of this as post punk disco influenced banality. Just crank it up and bob your head a little, and I'll be happy.
Lyrics:
i said helloyou gave me a smile
and you said your name
you look so sweet
as you're dragging your feet
as you head to your job
you look so cute
when you're driving your car
as you pull in the lot
you say the word
and i'll follow you round
like a little dog
and now that i've met you
i really gotta know you
i'm hoping you'll be there
i really wanna see you
and now that i've met you
i really gotta know you
i'm hoping you'll be there
i, i got my eyes on you
got my eyes on you
got my eyes on you
i got my eyes on you
i, i, i
you're just what i want
you're just what I need
i got my eyes on you
i said hello
you gave me a smile
and you said your name
you look so sweet
as you're dragging your feet
as you head to your job
and now that i've met you
i really gotta know you
i'm hoping you'll be there
i really wanna see you
and now that i've met you
i really gotta know you
i'm hoping you'll be there
i, i got my eyes on you
got my eyes on you
got my eyes on you
i got my eyes on you

Char
charm the pants off of Dr. Lioli. Wrong image? Sorry about your child. Bad timing to be ill over a weekend.
This was good. Thank you. (And glad you didn't let her get away.)

glad you liked my little slice of new wave. as for the wife, i pursued her for years. and now our little girl has my eyes and her hair. worked out great.
estellie
That is just about the sweetest thing I've heard in a while. My husband pursued me for years, too. And I'm so glad he had the patience!
And I am completely stunned by the vocal performances I'm hearing from you. This was fantastic!
Feter

always good to see you stop by. thanks for the props.
Peter Bauckham
on this. It certainly has the rhythmic qualities of Can and a bit of Tones on Tail. Love those bands so a big thumbs up from me. Nothing worse than a sick child - hope they're feeling better soon.

can is king in my book, this doesn't sound like them at all but the rhythm reminded me of them for some reason. the guitar definitely has a daniel ash feel to it though. so glad you liked it. thanks for stopping by.
Moviz
catchy and a great moving beat. Good lyrics too and you sing it great, cheers M
apocafunk
very cool/steady vibe. its definitely got that "head nodding" quality. very enjoyable, and excellent production. great job
wurzel
80's feeling going on here. I like :-)
peacepiano
Very cool vocal. Like your use of the loop as bass rhythm. Everything in the mix works to support what you are doing with the vocals. Enjoyed!
Thanks

Great pop lyrics ... cool rhythm track ... great vocals ... great guitar parts.
First class entry that deserves much wider play.

Cheers Michael

The rhythm is cool and the vocal works well. Nice lyrics, and a great vocal performance. The arrangement is nice - a grooving, infectious blend. Very cool, and a really creative approach to the loop. Nicely done. Peace.
sloparts
but you wrote a song with lyrics to go along with it. And might I add a pretty cool song at that. Love the lyrics Michael and what you did with that awful loop is outstanding.
Very cool song and one that sure to cause a lot of pain to the Dr. Great job my friend.

love that popcorn synth line and the whole intense vibe of this song. reminds me of (good) INXS in the chorus. you sang this with such conviction too. cool that you could go back to that headspace. hope your kid feels better soon

This is one of the best I've heard from u... Just wow... Downloaded.. Cheers
HenriROGERsoloandbands
But very nice song .

Like this little xylophone thing you get going and the electro bass is simple yet very cool. This is way better than anything have Fuyiga and Miyagi have done so far, IMHO
davisamerica
INDEED! Michael you make it sound so easy. Hope the kiddo gets better real soon.
Diviner
I liked the simple but effective arrangement and the lyrics are really good. Really good track, honest. I really liked it. Hope your kid gets well soon.
Vic Holman
..... well kinda. boy this is a bit different from you. But it sure came out cool. production and the layers in the mix sound excellent!
BossHook
you really mastered this genre and vibe with this tune. From the drum sounds and synths to the guitar effects and vocal delivery this reminded me of high school days in the 80s
Rik_Berryere
...and my head is definitely bobbing along, with a little sideways rhythm too. Love the smooth, terse and subtly sweet menace in the vocals... just a great track all the way around.
Dunno why Doc Lioli whacks the hornet nest thinking he's going to defeat MacJammers when it just triggers gems like this. Thanks for an incredible entry, Michael!
WillyB
..and GREAT feel. Reminds me of "love and rockets" .."so alive", and I love that one too.
bud
and will be for a long time. Hope you're happy. Like what you did with the challenge. Really not your usual as you said - which is what's so cool about these challenges.
yrp
different for you and very coo, I may add.
I enjoyed the "sensuality" of the vocals, reminded me of Bowie. It is a directionI would like to hear more.I wish I could get a tele right now, because it sounds really great as you mentioned.
the meaning of the lyrics in this weapon, the insidious loop will be winding it way into the Q-37 LOPMAL-CARSAP and destroying it from the inside out. Another great way to help us win the war.
Keep up the good work Super Looper

.. never cease to amaze me ..... I am finally getting around to listening to some of the LIOLI entries .... so far only two ... and both so different .... I suppose I couldnt find a loop in a haystack ! Your wife is lucky that you are still thinking of her when you write songs !
Ed Hannifin
...hear echoes of INXS, and a whole lotta Eighties...Pretty crunchy guitar sound for a Telecaster...
Sounds really good, really tight, truly brings on the head bob...
Hope your kid feels better soon. Whatever came through this part of the world left those who had it feeling pretty wiped out for a few days...A lot of napping is called for...

mix of influences that translates in to an interesting hybrid of a song. Totally works and sounds great. I hope your daughter is feeling better.
five_extra_arms
Killer track Michael!
I love it when you toss a few lyrics together and end up with a hit. Amazing. I hear so many great things in this song. Your vocals are the best. The plinka plinka plinka sound has me thinking of the Close To Me video with the Cure in the wardrobe falling off a cliff - Robert Smith is playing his comb (ask cjdaley about my video idea based on this) and your wicked guitar. Whew. I always try to prepare myself for your new songs, but this one took my by surprise and totally floored me.
I love it man.
tempie
I like the xylophone that follows the vocal melody and the backups that swell out from behind the vocals on the chorus. And of course the lyrics are down my alley. Would have been a lot of black shirts dancing to this at the all ages club in the 80's.
SmokeyVW
80's all right. digging that xylophone phrase. the beat is immanently danceable. totally forgot about that loop. nice.
thanks

Lioli has NO choice but to LIKE this.

from the first bar. GREAT GUITAR mixed with super rhythm. I'm starting to feel wholly inadequate.
