Keywords:
Nolan (10)acoustic (493)guitar (911)harmonies (24)Australian (5)male (7)vocal (152)
Description:
Over the next couple of days, I'm going to post songs from the home-made EP I recorded last year. If you like them enough to put them on your iPod, here's some particulars:

Artist: Nolan
Title: No One
1. Fine
2. Funded
3. Sunrise
4. Solitude
5. Two Seconds

Again, this song features Jim "Pooey" Mitchell's bass, and the mastering skills of Jim Bouchard.

I've got the niggle to write and record again so I'm hoping to spend some quality time at MacJams during the process. Float some works in progress for feedback and ideas along the way, and maybe even find some collaborators. Talk to you soon...

Lyrics:
I wish you could see this sunrise
But I know you need your sleep
I’ll be here with this cat and this coffee and a smile on my face

You and I don’t have anything planned for today
You and I don’t have anything planned for tomorrow
And when I hear you stirring I’ll be right in
To see your sleepy smile

The birds descend on the garden
As we lie watching from the bed
They can fly whereever they want to but they hang out here instead

You and I don’t have anything planned for today
You and I don’t have anything planned for tomorrow
And when I hear you stirring I’ll be right in
To see your sleepy smile

Last night I felt a shiver
And I think you felt it too
As we spoke about the most simple of things that we are able to do

You and I don’t have anything planned for today
You and I don’t have anything planned for tomorrow
And when I hear you calling I’ll be right in
To see your sleepy smile

Hardware:
eMac, Maton acoustic, MobilePre USB, Behringer B-1 condenser mic, GarageKey keyboard, Pooey's bass

It's nice to listen to this again. I guess I'm partisan, but this stands up as a really great piece of writing and performance and production. I'm still blown away.

You da man &mdash 10/01/08 - 09:51:00 PM
Thanks Jim. It means a lot to know you actually like this song. I'm sure at one point in time, you were sick to death of it. Glad the re-visit turned out to be a good one. Couldn't have done it without you. Thanks again.

I can't tell you how many times I've played your EP since I first bought it. This song is so representative of the "Nolan Sound" and it's one of my absolute faves, right up there with Supermarket (which isn't on the CD, of course). Jim did a nutso great job on the production of this whole album. I often marvel at how great it sounds.

Thanks so much for coming back. Your music makes me very happy!

Very excellent piece of song writing. You have a peaceful and soothing voice.
The production is remarkable, too.

Glad I got to hear this. This is right up my alley.

good to hear you again:) &mdash 10/01/08 - 12:16:04 PM
Beautiful workmanship from all involved. You really shine here Nolan. Great hook-lines and melodies. Your voice is perfect for the tunes you make. The choices of drums and how the mix/production is made gives it a light pop'ish feeling, and your arrangements with the acoustic guitar noodlings reminds me a little of Gilbert O' Sullivan:)

Very nice &mdash 10/01/08 - 01:19:39 PM
Nice low end feel...love the Maton guitars and yours shines through here. Nice use of chord/melody changes. Kept thinking it might "take off" at some point, but over all I have to say excellent job!

Ya know, Nolan... &mdash 10/01/08 - 06:43:31 PM
Listening to any of your songs on its own makes a case for you being an excellent songwriter...and an excellent singer...

Listening to a set of your songs in a row...like, on an EP, for instance, makes a case for you being about as good as it gets...

People around here like to call comments like this 'blowing sunshine', but the fact is that there are people on MacJams that I think are that good, and you're one of 'em...

I'm delighted that you're back...

Ed

Man, I can feel the sunshine, Ed...and I like it! Seriously, that really means a lot to me. If I had a dedications page on this EP, you would be on it, mate.
