Description:
Apples (T. DeVine & Ilya Gerasimenko)

Wow, this tune took on a new life after I sent it to Ilya (iG.STUDiO)
I had this jam/bed sitting on my hard drive for a long time and each time I would listen to it, I kept thinking it needs a solo. I tried a few times and couldn’t get going on it myself and Ilya kept popping in my head, I thought that Ilya could do it. He said yes, and turned out this great tag/head you hear, as well as the tenor sax soloing (primo).
All the horns are Ilya, on his tenor and his EWI(Electric Wind Instrument). This song is now co written by
timothy devine and Ilya Gerasimenko.
Thanks Ilya, your playing is always so tasty.
Hope you all enjoy!
Peace out

very good tim, you got some great tones goin in this, I like how open it is, just enough going on in the rhythm section to give it direction. Excellent use of the delay too.

So &mdash 10/05/08 - 09:34:52 PM
So I started listening, but I got called away. The whole time I was away from the computer, I couldn't get those opening bars out of my head! Got to be a good sign. This is a really sweet track (now that I've listened to it all the way through...) - the mood is magnificent and the playing is wonderful. Defines cool! A terrific collaboration. Nicely done. Kudos to you both. Peace.

I like that big bass sound you get out of the drum. I like the solo lines, I like the synths. This is a great collaboration.

smooth &mdash 10/06/08 - 10:41:07 AM
a lot of really cool stuff going on in this. it has a real passive aggressive feel to it. does that make sense? anyway, great post. good idea getting Ilya to play on this. The solos sound amazing.

Thought I'd left a comment when you posted this &mdash 10/07/08 - 11:05:40 PM
Tim, these recent songs of yours are bordering on something else entirely: the collision of 'smooth jazz' and outer space??? Ilya's riff that opens/closes this strikes exactly the right Euro-bebop response to your cagey mix-up, and the whole hovers between the tasteful and the psychedelic. This is deeply satisfying stuff! My hat's off to both of you.

hello /thanks &mdash 10/07/08 - 11:30:41 PM
what a great encouraging comment. Sometimes I'm not so sure about what I do
one thing I do know is that Ilya is very hip with that sax and EWI and his arrangments
the horns came to me from him and I couldn't stop smiling when i plugged it all in
he has enriched a few of my song and I am grateful to have a chance to work with him.
anything ever happen with
Tanzania
it shuffled up the other day and was like ...iCool
great to see you back here

great arrangement and playing - fantastic collab. This is exactly what I love about MJ - when people get together and create fresh new sounds that cross boundaries and redefine genres. Glad I got to hear this.

MoodMaking &mdash 10/09/08 - 09:25:31 AM
From Intro to end, this merry moodmaker keeps your attention with it's effective use of a simple yummy sound nugget.

The motif is echoed throughout, over a background of prowessly placed percussive pleasantries and audacious atomospheric accoutrements.

Nice Moodmaking to take us all to a nebular excursion.

Excellent grooving &mdash 10/27/08 - 10:40:31 PM
You lay down a really nice bed for that sax to groove over.

Eh, how many bass instruments do you have? Starting at 0:50 there is something rumbling that clashes with the bass guitar occasionally.

How did this happen &mdash 12/03/08 - 06:54:19 AM
Can't beleive I missed this one earlier. Cool sax playing. Adds good flavour.

Your songs has a feeling of freedom Tim. The way you mix and pan your stuff makes your productions airy. You show good timing with where you put your guitar playing.

Light and good feeling all over.
