Description:
Ok. So I've posted more versions of this song than I can count, but I finally think that this is it. For this time around, I've sped up the tempo, added a couple more guitars, a synth, and other fun stuff in addition to slightly changing the piano arrangement. BIG thanks to my friend Eric for adding his guitar solo skills. Moved up to Logic Studio (which is very exciting as well). Feedback, as always, is GREATLY appreciated. Cheers!

Lyrics:
I know that you're lost, between love and hate run at any cost
You're heart's full of fear, you're inside yourself, you've got no more tears

Can I be so selfish, to want you for my own, for my own
Can you be so selfish to want me for your own, for your own

You're living your life, through uncertanties, but you've gotta fight
She's taken your soul, even who you are does she really know

Can I be so selfish to want you for my own, for my own
Can you be so selfish to want me for your own, for your own

Remember this point in time, will be swept away by fifty more in line
Let your fate guide you through, yeah it's destiny between me and you

Can I be so selfish to want you for my own, for my own
Can you be so selfish to want me for your own, for your own
So selfish
So Selfish

This is a really well written piece. I like the arrangement to. Plenty of guitars and really solid vocals. Keep it up.

Peace and love,

Mike

Caught this one &mdash 10/08/08 - 02:51:16 PM
on the front page and I am very happy I did. This is very good. Nice even mix. The vox could use a bump up though, a little more up front so we can hear your voice, which is unique and beautiful which is a rare combination. The distorted guitar might be a bit to much, I think it crowds the mix a bit. I think the solo would sound better with the clean guitar sound that chords in the choruses. Just personal taste is all. Nothing really wrong with it, on the whole it is a great song with decent production and great musicianship arrangement, and performance. Im a fan now and not just because you're Canadian :)
Peace
Guy

Mix &mdash 10/08/08 - 02:57:51 PM
Thanks Guy... I've been working on this song so very long. If you're interested, check out the very first post of this song in my profile to see how far it's come along. I'll definitely take your input into mind the next time that I sit down to tweak this tune a little. Thanks so much for the listen and taking the time to comment. Cheers!

Always liked this... &mdash 10/08/08 - 03:04:56 PM
Glad you are working on nailing it... it is so worth it! There are very slight timing issues with the rhythm guitars being slightly off the beat here and there, not a big deal. The singing is always great to hear, love your voice... but it should probably be boosted a bit. The harmony singing is great, but also a bit low in the mix (and is it flanged? I might not flange/chorus it quite so strongly.)

Very rich production, strong guitars, keys, drums. Quite clean sounding... good use of Logic :-) Good to see you back, congratulations on all your busy accomplishments over the year, and hope to see you back more often.

ttfn,
Drakonis

Glad to be back Drak! &mdash 10/08/08 - 03:09:55 PM
Thanks for the comments as always. I'm going to take another listen to the mix this weekend as I'll have a little spare time over CDN t-giving and listen for the vocals being a little low. I don't think that I threw a chorus/flange on the background vocals, but I'll take a look for that as well. Those backgrounds were sung by my VERY talented fiancee by the way.

What a voice! &mdash 10/09/08 - 04:27:03 PM
Stunning singing. Yours is a voice I could listen to all day. Maybe the distorted guitar could sit back a little? It tends to muddy the mix - but this may be the mp3 compression - some of my stuff has suffered from that. Lovely guitar solo, you have talented friends.
Great words, sung beautifully.

Good to hear you again... &mdash 10/10/08 - 09:42:07 PM
...and this song is still really strong...

I love your vocal. Your voice is a great vehicle for this lyric and melody. The non-word singing at the end is great...

My little crits would be just as regards the recording. I think there is some fighting in the rhythm section.I think mostly between the acoustic guitar strums and drums...and I think there are some spots where the lead is riding over the vocal...

I like the way you bring in elements at the beginning, and I like that you're not afraid to take things back out...

The passion in your voice can permeate through anything, but why hinder it with putting anything in it's way.

It was like trying to hear a beautiful bird's voice through the din of a noisy city bus stop. (hope that's not too harsh, but damn, your vocals are too great and not to be muffled. The other playing is good, and just needs a remix of sorts to put them more in the background, except when soloing.

Your voice should be frontmost at all times, and any other instrumentation but a supporting role.

You will always be remembered as one of MacJam's most pleasant surprises when you first came here.
