Keywords:
Footprints (2)in (79)
Description:
This is a song about feeling like crap but being careful not to follow mistakes other people have made.

Lyrics:
I've tried to break it- been in this bind
I try to fake it time after time
as I search for the path of truth
Can't help but feel I'm doomed
When I've watched others try-(their) failed attempts and lies
I started out like the rest of them
As time runs down, don't know that I'll ever be good enough to set me free
Oh time runs out way too fast for me to meet the needs of me

Oh God I feel so down-I have to cry out loud
(and watch for the footprints I'm in)

I've gone the way the others have
I cannot go far down that path

Here comes another shot of pain
It comes on like the pouring rain

wow &mdash 10/10/08 - 08:56:00 AM
There are some really good elements in this song. Got a question... I assume you one track at a time seeing as how you do all the inst. and vox here [ that is alway an impressive thing to do ] .... what's your set up ? Live drums i am guessing? I enjoyed this and give you a sincere hats off for pulling this all together. No offense ... a huge compliment ... but the guitar lead towards the end reminds me of Neil Young a lot. right then ... cool track. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words &mdash 10/10/08 - 10:24:43 AM
the set up is an electronic drum set that I play, then I play the bass, guitar, and then finally the lead. Because I'm using a four track, I then have to mix the music together onto another tape, and use two tracks on that tape for the vocals. Then mix the music and vocals together. (Whew!) It is quite a bit of work.

Cool Tune &mdash 10/10/08 - 09:23:34 AM
Good sounds and steady plodding progression. I liked it.

Is the hiss intentional? It's a touch distracting. I've found that I get that if I leave monitoring turned on for a distorted guitar track.

Nope &mdash 10/10/08 - 10:28:39 AM
Unfortunately I use an analog 4-track, therefore when I record and bounce the music down, the hiss automatically comes in.(BUMMER!) I unfortunately do not have the money to invest into anything better right now. But thank you for the kind words and looking past the hiss into the actual song.

When it started my missus said it was pearl jam which she says is the highest accolade you can get.
I love the rough and ready feel to your recordings ,in my mind I'm thinking this would sound brilliant with a better mixdown.
Is there no one you can get a copy of garageband off?.
There is such potential in your songs.
They deserve to maximise their potential.

nice &mdash 10/10/08 - 01:39:38 PM
here is a tip. you might know more about multitracking than i, but when i used to record analog, my main goal when pin ponging was keeping the hiss down.. try recording as much as you can direct. the more you eliminate hiss, the less you have to fight when bouncing. with only a four track, my bouncing would be as such;
drums, bass, one guitar, bounce to one track.
vocals, two tracks, bounce to one track.
two tracks left!
one more guitar, and maybe an additional bass track, or vocal track.
back when i was bouncing tracks, it was really hard to get the bass to stay bass-ey when bouncing. usually, i would have to record an additional bass track.
toward the end of my analog days, i would go drums, all rhythm guitars, and a live lead vocal mixed to one track. risky, but if you take acouple of days mixing, leaving it, then coming back to it, and mixing again, you can get a good solid track.
then, you can do other vocals, and bass on thier own. this assures a solid bass track.
i liked this song, and i am looking forward to more.
remember, these days, 8-track digital HD recorders are selling for under 400 dollars, and with your live setup, this would be a wonderful way to go.
if you did not live so far away from California, i would sell you mine. i have a tascam dp01fx 8-track Hd recorder with a 40 gig memory.
anyhow, keep rocking!
play around with your bouncing, and try goinng as direct as possible every time!

good one &mdash 10/10/08 - 03:08:02 PM
nice rock tune. Like the guitar riff on the "here comes another shot..." part. I thought the electronic drums sounded pretty real.
Fixing the hiss would improve it , but still an enjoyable listen.
The creativity part is more important for me and probably most other MJ'ers.

Thanks everyone &mdash 10/11/08 - 07:45:38 PM
I've had much more feedback then I expected on this song. (then any song I've done I think.) So I just decided to do a lump comment back, which may be cheap, but I hurt my shoulder yesterday so I am sorry. Anyway all of you have had great comments and I appreciate all of them! Thanks for all the tips and for kicking out all of your own songs. You all rock, and thanks again! I'm going to try to heal up now.
