Description:
100 years ago, my friend Laura Taylor fronted a space aged garage band called "Astroslut". She called herself Jane Fondle. I called her Uma Theremin. They were one of those incredible bands that you never forget as long as you live. She usually wore silver mini skirts, space boots, had a ray gun and everything else from the future. Her performance inspired me to write this song. I never recorded it until last night and it's the only song anyone ever requested me to perform live, so it's special to me.
Oh yeah, I was originally going to do an acoustic version of this for Feter's Old House and things just got out of hand.
Thanks!

Lyrics:
PARTS OF LAURAI LOVE THOSE PARTS OF LOVELY LAURA
LOVELY LAURA,
I SURE ADORE-A LOVELY LAURA
LAURA
LOVELY LAURA
I WATCH YOU CRAWLING ON THE FLOOR-A
BY THE DOOR-A
I'M A BEGGIN' FOR-A MORE-A

WHEN I SEE YOU ON THE RADIO
WHEN I SEE YOUR VOICE IN STEREO
WHEN I SEE YOUR NAME
SEE YOUR BRIGHT RED MANE
WHEN I SEE YOUR BOOTS
WHEN YOUR RAY-GUN SHOOTS......
LOVELY LAURA
SHE'S SO INTENSE, SHE'S SO HARDCORE-A
I WANNA SCORE-A
SHE'S NOTHING LIKE THE GIRL NEXT-DOOR-A
LAURA
LOVELY, LOVELY, LOVELY LAURA
I KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE A STAR-A
I'LL FOLLOW YOU WHEN YOU'RE ON TOUR-A
I'M ALWAYS WANTING MORE-A LAURA
(CHORUS)
WHEN I SEE YOU ON THE RADIO
WHEN I SEE YOUR VOICE IN STEREO
WHEN I SEE YOUR NAME
SEE YOUR BRIGHT RED MANE
WHEN I SEE YOUR BOOTS
WHEN YOUR RAY-GUN SHOOTS......
.....SHOOT YOUR RAY-GUN,
SHOOT YOUR RAY-GUN
SHOOT YOUR RAY-GUN
SHOOT YOUR RAY-GUN

This electro-spy music is certainly catchy - nice word play again, Bob. The bibbity-bop keys & guitar riff really play off one another.
Great key change into the chorus - totally spot on. It's so 60s (is that 2060s?). That girl next door thing sure gives inspiration a-plenty. Sounds like a different vocal set up, no?
'See your voice' - I love that line. You put a lot of work into this, and it shows. Love the ending. 3'34" of utter space junk that I can't get enough of. Coming out for a beer?

I forgot to mention that Laura was (and still is) a local radio personality. I also forgot to mention that I am one of the most self-referencial people I know - cross referencing my own songs, song titles, chewing off my extra arms, etc...
My last 3 tunes were so electronic that I thought it was time to bust out the guitars. As things developed (around midnight) I threw a synth riff in just to see if it could fit. About 6 am it started making sense to me.
Pretty much the same vocal set up. Main vocal in the middle and 2 higher vox cleverly placed to the left and to the right (patent pending). I might've tweaked the "Male Basic" setting a bit - adding some reverb to my puny voice.
Thanks for the big listen Jim!
Utter Space Junk Since 1963

Some things can be good when they get out of hand.
I wish I'd dear that guitar a wee bit louder, but besides that, it's quite a roar-a.
It bears your trademark throughtout, one-armed riff übercaffeinated synth arps, and trippleganger vocals.
I hope Laura likes it and shows. it on the radio.
five_extra_arms
Yeah, I pretty much do the same thing over and over and over, like you said. Is it style or lack of ability I wonder?
I played this once in front of Laura and her husband. I'm not sure what they thought of it. We're all still friends, but no one has ever mentioned my song! Maybe I'll post it in a comment on her myspace page?
Ubercaffeinated trippleganger Space Junk Since 1963
Relic67
guitars and electronic parts go together perfectly.
voice is fine.
the keyboard riff is killer!
five_extra_arms
All circuits and ice ice cream.
Thank Relic!
motormouth
Hey i want this girl on stage with Motormouth. She would like fine with us in teutonic helmets and silvery cloaks.
five_extra_arms
I thought of you when I was writing the description. I did a google search to see if you were former band mates.
Thanks for jet packin' in for a listen!
lavalamp
I especially like the variety of vocals on this. Space Rock. Drums sound "real".
Really rockin' Bobby.
Punkin' good times.
Loved it.
Dave
five_extra_arms
Thanks Dave. I used a combination of midi drums and snippets of drum loops to enhance that dull midi drum sound. I was kinda surprised myself at the sound of the drums.
RazorsKiss
kinda like the presidents of the usa in a slightly evolved form. loved it!

That's great! Makes sense to me, but maybe it's more of a DEVOLVED form?
Rocha Malhada
fell out? I can't wait for the open mic acoustic version in 2012 (what will she do then?)
I do like the full front crunch here. The little synth ditty puts it in the space age. It's Rocky for electro-pop, but it works for that as well as what I remember 'punk'. Good job, there, too.

I watch her crawling on the floor-a.
I needed to add some 60's TV Space Theme song to it if I wanted to make sense of the ray gun in the end.
How will I make this work for the open mic? Yipes!
musichead
I just liked it...what I liked about it, I dont know. The mix stands out in my mind. The feel is real. I like someone said electro-spy. Very 50s-70's. just a neat mix of eras. Thanks. A well saved song.
five_extra_arms
Thank you for the comment and the download. I love nothing better than to know a song has been downloaded. That's the highest compliment in my book. I'm honored.
Lennon714
sounds like a Stryper cover. Oh how I wish it really did.
I'm still rolling over " She usually wore silver mini skirts, space boots, had a ray gun and everything else from the future." Love it.
It, of course, is great. You're the Yngwie of the synth. Always some tasty robot noises bouncing around your tracks.
five_extra_arms
I am so glad that you didn't call me the Eddie Van Halen of synthesizers.
Feter
you and spacey garage songs ...typical late 70s Punk
record ..the wild guitars with the synthic sound and
the wailin vocal ...just great rockin !!! ...** we can
do an acoustic take for Our House dont we ? ;-))
You Rock !!!!
five_extra_arms
Be careful what you ask for Feter - this is so close to being your next submission!! I hope you like it.
ic42
it is martian pop. she is too alien for parents to allow. however she allures. or perhaps she is allura. it is music that shoots humour with a ray gun. it burns a smile in the sky. 0x0
five_extra_arms
What's so funny about a ray gun?
Thanks icey! Glad to see your sky smiling.
Moviz
the one with five_extra_legs? I remember her well with those flashing silver boob.. er, sorry, boots LOL. Good sparkly number well performed, but I didn't expect this at all, enjoyed M
five_extra_arms
You're a hoot! She has silver BOOTS and I'm sure she'd zap ya with her photon rifle if she saw ya getting fresh!
Thanks for listening Mo, I know you like this kinda stuff (secretly).
Vic Holman
so it took you a hundred years to get around to recording this huh?
cool tune that is totally laser equipped. cool keys and fuzzy sounds.
But, I am most impressed with the vocals. This is a cool tune to play in my flying saucer as i shoot the ray gun out the window at passing feemorglobins.
five_extra_arms
I always knew Vic Holman was from the future. You and your obsession with 1960's NASA era mini skirts is what gave it away... Oh, and your robot guitar.
psexnyc
Read the comments first....not really knowing what to expect from this tune, I played it. The song had from the instant it started. Very playfull and fun. I imagine, when performed live, this would be the song the band would have the most fun playing.
Glad I stopped by.
five_extra_arms
The first time I played this song live was a great experience for me. Long story short, I had 3 members of a popular ska band (Hopscotch) backing me. The Ska version of this was mind blowing to say the least. I had the tremendous advantage of singing to an audience that knew and adored Laura. I guess the planets aligned for me that night because the next time I played out, someone requested "Laura"!!
Pete_NB
I Saturnly do! Once again your wonderfully unorthodox melodies take me away to a new place.
You certainly have a unique take on things. Is there a little part of your brain that works a touch differently than the rest of us?
five_extra_arms
I like how you said "differently than the rest of US"... Who ya trying to fool?
Thanks Peter for being one of those birds of a feather that can appreciate unorthodoxy.
egobandit
me want to slam while doing the robot. Cool interplay between the git and synth. The singing is vintage 79 remember no divin off the balconey
five_extra_arms
Tim,
you always wanna slam and do the robot!! Don't blame the music!!
lengold
fun lyrics Bob and very, very catchy. Which parts of Laura exactly?
Love the composition/production too.
Cheers
Len
five_extra_arms
Laura is about 6 feet tall, so, there are lots of parts of Laura.
Thanks for listening Len. You know all about catchy.
Monkaton
More taste, more filling.
five_extra_arms
More taste, more filling. It didn't rhyme with Laura, but I seriously considered them!
Thanks,
Bob
tempie
man I really like vocal styling on this one - the Kinksy Door-A, Laur-A, I wanna Score-A, the "Stereo-oh-oh" in the chorus. Love the happy, B-52's organ/synth over the crunchy guitars. definitely you, as was mentioned by cjdaley, and that's a good thing since i do like to rock five extra arms in the horse hauler.
five_extra_arms
I'm dying over here!!
Thanks man!
...I recommend a cold shower. I think I may need one now too! lol
Big fun this my friend. Had me boppin and smiling!
Thanks for busting out those guitars so that I could bust a move!
Be well friend!
Ibstrat
what you mean about synths! A very cool fun song.Early Bowie meets Devo!
TheSkankBrothers
From space you say? Can she shoot a can off a fence with her death-ray glare?
Neither can I - I look like Ben Turpin....so hardcor-a!
Willie
echoroom
Wow, probably one of the greatest band names ever! Great early Numan feel to this - the chorus change works really well too. Bugger, Jim's already said this.
And lyrics...
I wanna score-a
She's nothing like the girl next door-a ...
Rock n roll genius, with a big sci-fi feel, astroboy! Shoot me wiv yr raygun!!!
five_extra_arms
Steve,
ya know I miss ya man, really bad.
Thanks for checking in from the Dark Continent. I feel honored. Now watch out, cuz this rock n roll sci fi genius has got his raygun charged and is firing without aim or reason.
Cheers mate. Hope you're back with us soon. Ahhhh, the life of a secret agent/rock star. I don't envy you.
Bob
Diviner
Very good lyrics, love them. They also make me chuckle as well (in a good way of course). I love the almost nursery rhyme lyrics and the way they are sung, very cool. The music is really good, really like the chugging guitar and the electro sounds are really good and you have mixed them so well.
What does your wife think of this song about a past fantasy? Unless of course she is Laura?
