Description:
My tribute to Lou Reed and his Perfect Day. Another slice of black humor.

If you like, you can sing the lyrics to Lou's original tune and it fits nicely. But as no covers allowed, this is a totally different song altogether (with a tip o' the hat to Bowie's 'Sorrow'). Please, enjoy!

Picture is of the mountains around Lochgoilhead, here in sunny Azerbaijan, em, I mean, Scotland...a perfect day indeed!

Jim

Lyrics:
Not A Perfect Day,
Spewed Tia Maria In The Night,
And Then Later, When It Got Light,
We Went Home.
Not A Perfect Day,
No Animals In The Zoo
Then Later, I sacked you
And Then Home.

It's Not A Perfect Day,
I'm Sad I Hung Out With You.
Not Such A Perfect Day,
You Just Keep On Banging On.

Not A Perfect Day,
Problems Around The Place,
Weekend Inside Again.
It's Not Fun.
Not A Perfect Day,
You Made Me Stab Myself.
I’m Sure I Should Be Somewhere Else....

It's Not A Perfect Day,
I'm Sad I Hung out with You.
Not Such A Perfect Day,
You Just Keep On Banging On,
You Just Keep On Banging On,

You're Going To Get what you deserve
You're Going To Get what you deserve
You're Going To Get what you deserve
You're Going To Get what you deserve

All the best,

well Jim the &mdash 10/12/08 - 01:00:40 PM
great sounding backing with the way you worked the bass and strings an'all, certainly belie the wicked intent described in the lyrics i.e. 'You made me stab myself ? 'Yikes LOL, though both are dramatic sounding and it's a great mix; sounds like you're using Logic with that rich sound as opposed to GB, cheers M

To get the intended black humor here, you should get a hold of the original 'Perfect Day' - this is the antithesis of all that is in that masterpiece. All GB.

i don't do self harming, except be a fan of Eurovision...lol!

Ta much me ol' mate!

Enjoy Majorca...!

This Is Not A Love Song &mdash 10/13/08 - 09:35:54 AM
You made me stab myself too!

Love it Jim, you crazy kilted Azerbaijanian.

Again you have this ultra relaxed groove as if you've been drinking out of lengold's coffee mug.

You are really going places with your vocals. It's wonderful to hear you singing so confidently.

You made me forget myself... &mdash 10/13/08 - 11:36:21 AM
...I thought I was someone else, someone good!

Har har! I just thought the exact opposite of what 'the man' was thinking back in the 70s. Tia Maria instead of Sangria, how obtuse!

Me n Len are about to take you up on your recent suggestion...WTS!

Cheers, Bro'

You're going to reap just what you sow.. &mdash 10/13/08 - 02:56:50 PM
Thanks for tuning in - I just thought about how over used Perfect Day is, it was used in the UK as a charity song with various artists a while back. Great song, but I wanted to turn it upside down to see how it fared. Turned out to have some bleak humour I thought.

Cheers,

Jim

Jim, love the &mdash 10/13/08 - 01:39:07 PM
idea and the lyrics. i know exactly how you feel.
Perfect feel to the music and the whole mix - but it does seem quite quiet in my earphones. Just had a look in case they are filled with dodgy wax again, but no.
Maybe the deafness has finally happened after listening to everything at full volume for years.
Really enjoyed and downloaded, i am sure it will cheer me up when I need it.
Cheers
Len

I have trouble keeping out of the red - so here I went for the mellow quietness, but it sounded ok at half volume thru the headphones. I knocked this out in about an hour and decided just to get it out there 'cos I'm so chuffed with it!

Heh heh!!

Cheers, Len. Thanks for DL-ing. That always gets me!

Love this Jim &mdash 10/13/08 - 06:26:49 PM
You seem to have found your mellow groove as well - though your's is a bit darker. Excellent concept - and great execution. Lou would be proud.

I'm doing dark right now &mdash 10/14/08 - 02:55:44 AM
But trying it in a Woody Allen type vibe - so the opposite of the lovely original Mr Reed's classic!

Cheers, Bud.

that's never a perfect day.

when you can sleep in, take a few naps & have a couple beers in the evening... then you re talking about a perfect day.

Breakfast music &mdash 10/14/08 - 12:48:57 PM
Maybe everyone else would smile more around here at home in the mornings if they would just play this song to get the day started. Right now, they just frown, way too much - the local news of the sinking Titanic bilge bail-outs, Japanese banks closing (thanks for that post), and Sponge Bob re-runs don't seem to help much.

Thanks, RL! Lets' get our happy heads on...

Hey! Classic stuff! &mdash 10/15/08 - 03:01:54 PM
Interesting concept.

Love the lyrics. Modest. Honest.

Enjoyed the half-sung/half-spoken approach.

Nice piano break...

Be well friend!

Thank you Michael &mdash 10/15/08 - 04:00:43 PM
The concept is one I have thought may have been construed as down right laziness, but it's not easy to turn a song on it's head (especially a classic). You can actually use my words to sing along to the original and it becomes something else altogether...

Feed animals in the zoo says Lou; no animals in the zoo says me!

Thanks for tuning in!

Jim

"no animals... &mdash 10/16/08 - 02:59:10 PM
...in the zoo." I concur Jim. Instead, more protected wildlife habitats and such like.

Again, nice work and

be well!

... love the lyrics especially .... the dry delivery works perfectly too ... the "stabbing yourself was good" .. but I laughed when you sang "I'm sad I hung out with you" .. hahahaha

I hoped you'd like this... &mdash 10/16/08 - 02:32:55 AM
Thanks for tuning in - there's a place for this kind of dark stuff. I know you get it!

Wow Jim &mdash 10/23/08 - 09:47:18 PM
Great Great lyrics, ah love the mood here and that middle piano segment is just sweet then that sudden intense break with just the piano, the Poignancy of the last four lines is powerful and almost ambiguous by the last line,
I enjoy the artistic literary side of music and I know you do too,
Nice painting...
Cheers!

Glad you checked it out so in-depth. I knew you'd get the intention here. I like that break too, it's short and sweet, but really effective - so thanks for picking up on it.

Hope all is well and you'll find some time for a TG posting; dying to hear something new from you.

Cheers, T,

Jim

Honest? &mdash 10/27/08 - 10:52:16 PM
I love the background. Things like doubling the bass and piano make for a very subtle accompaniment.

But the imperfections in the way the lyrics scan really get on my nerves.

Aye - there's the rub! &mdash 10/28/08 - 05:31:49 PM
The irony of not being perfect. I know what you mean - the timing is way out and really the lyrics are far more suitable for using with the 'real' tune by Mr Reed.

I like honesty. Thanks.

Always dead chuffed to see you here! The original just needed some ying & yang treatment to harmonise the world...in my head.

Thanks for check it out. Cheery!
