Description:
OK, so my M-audio interface packed up a month ago due to a crappy driver update (apparently m-audio are useless when it comes to driver updates) so i was pulling my hair out for so long before i got it fixed. After about a month of I had to re-install the whole OS and am now using the 'old' drivers. I guess the only consolation is that it gave me lot's of time to write and practice. I now have about 384298460000 songs written, but none recorded. This song was actually written today as more of an afterthought i had. It may get a little repetitive, and has a long way to go in terms of build, structure, arrangement etc, but i thought i'd stick it up anyway just because it's been sooooooooo long since i've posted anything.

Enjoy!

Lyrics:
If everything is going wrong
just rest your head on mine
and everything that once belonged
will hide at the back of my mind

dont worry, take your time
there's no hurry, we'll get by

Even though the days are changing
we all stay the same
cos life aint how it was back then
now all it does is rain

dont worry, take your time
there's no hurry, we'll get by
cos it's all in my mind
yes it's all been left behind

everyone we knew before
grew tall and walked away
cos they have gone to better things, better lives and better ways

dont worry take your time
there's no hurry,
time to say goodbye

Wow &mdash 10/13/08 - 01:20:05 PM
I love that first chord change! That catches you by surprise...

This gorgeous!

I'm posting a rocker this week and probably it has my best vocals yet (hope you'll take a listen) but oh man I wish I could sing like you!

Beautiful sir... Just beautiful.

i will be sure &mdash 10/13/08 - 01:33:32 PM
to check it out! i find rock vocals the hardest of them all, so good luck! I'm glad you liked this and especially surprised that you were'nt expecting that chord change (i feel like alot of my pieces follow some very generic pop/rock chord sequences, so that was nice to hear)
thanks for stopping by!

Great piece and playing and singing.
Not sure if you've got plans to build it up a bit mid-way.
Not that it really needs it..it's just my ears were sort of expecting it.
Really good song anyway.
BTW I heard m-audio were crap at back up help and decided to avoid them..not that helps much now. Sorry

thanks kingbee &mdash 10/13/08 - 01:41:21 PM
yeh i am planning on building this one. I've actually written a final chorus/outro section that i'm planning on being quite heavy, i just couldn't quite find a vocal melody that fitted how i wanted. It's something i'll probably address on the next version.
Yeah, i was really surprised when i went onto the m-audio website at the amount of complaints they were getting. Seems i'm not the only one! Oh well, touchwood it seems to be working!

thanks for the comment:)

Great one &mdash 10/13/08 - 01:24:53 PM
Your voice sounds sensational. It has a cool edge.

Also, great dynamics.

Keep it up, brother,

I like this &mdash 10/13/08 - 02:44:35 PM
it's so autumnal. Your voice is great, and you sing it with lots of feeling. The backing instrumentals support without getting in the way. Great sounds there.

It's really great &mdash 10/13/08 - 06:47:48 PM
that you picked up some sort of autumnal feel in this. Although it's not directly about autumn as a season itself, iv'e been really affected by the great autumnal weather here in england (believe it or not) which made want to do something slightly more mellow. However, like many of my songs, this is another that will build into something a little bigger, not huge, but bigger, but i will try to keep that chilled autumn thing going on!

thanks for the comment! :)

I thought everybody at Macjams was a superstar?! haha, thanks for the encouraging words, but for the moment i just want to concentrate on learning from everyone here and practicing till i'm as good as i can be! As long as i'm enjoying myself in the process, thats payment enough!

cheers for stopping by guy

rich voice &mdash 10/13/08 - 05:50:34 PM
Very nice singing voice, and sparse-but-perfect music composition here. I agree that the restrained way you play/sing this, it feels like at any time you'll break out in some boogie-woogie piano bit, not sure why, perhaps it is the soft-strummed guitar that makes me expect or want a change... maybe vary that a little? Piano is ever-so-slightly muffled-sounding, but other than that, this is really gorgeous. Good to bump into your stuff!

Drakonis

i know exactly &mdash 10/13/08 - 07:03:18 PM
what you mean by varying the strumming pattern and i completely agree. Originally i had a real nice finger picking acoustic guitar part that was much more interesting accompanying the vocals, but until i have that ABSOLUTELY perfected, i didn't want to record it, so i just stuck some strumming down and spent a little more time on the vocals. I've also written a big ending/chorus for this one that i really like, but havn't been able to find a fitting melody vocal. But i will continue to work on it! Haha, i wish i could just break out into a boogie woogie piano style, maybe i'll work on that too.

thanks for the critique - it's much appreciated:)

nice tune &mdash 10/13/08 - 06:29:45 PM
everybody's already covered how great your voice is. i really dig this progression. and the synth pad sound is very good too. maybe there could be a bridge or big finish on this one? but it also works just fine as is. great to hear another post from you. post again soon. (no pressure... ok, maybe some. :)

long time no talk duuude.. &mdash 10/13/08 - 07:30:57 PM
i gathered it was probably because you've been busy laying down the beats for that workout project of yours, which is why i haven't emailed or anything. Nice to see your back though, i've been pretty behind in terms of commenting and posting on macjams (computer/internet problems) but it's nearly all sorted now so will be sure to visit your page and check out those dance tunes of yours (word is, you actually layed some slap bass down on one of them?! thats mental, i need to hear it).
Yet again, i got excited and uploaded this prematurely, so yes, like most of my songs, this will be another 'builder'. I just find it really hard to produce strong sounding heavy parts using just software instruments, which is why i upload most of my stuff unfinished. I'm really glad you liked the synth pad, i've been exploring the depths of my roland piano and using the sounds from there (i record stereo into the interface, and i think it's a much warmer, full sound than any of my software/garageband pads) so i'm glad you picked up on that. I will try and post more this month, like i say in the song description bit, i have alot of material to be working with now, so i'm hoping to get some stuff down soon.

sorry for the massive reply, it seems i got a little carried away tonight!
oh well,
cheers for the comment :)

Wow!! &mdash 10/13/08 - 06:55:18 PM
This is now my new favorite song!! I am downloading this straight to my iPod and mixing it in with my "Cool Out Jams" playlist. You will be the first MJ artist to make that 35 song playlist.

So glad I popped by your page!

Awesome Post!!

it might seem silly, but i actually feel extremely privileged by that! so thanks.
The fact that somebody halfway across the world is listening to me on their ipod simply baffles me. It's great though!
I'm happy you like the tune, thanks for the comment and the support

Good Hearing from you &mdash 10/14/08 - 08:11:42 AM
This is a really, really catchy tune. Again, I think if you build on this one it's another hit!!! Kick in some drums or bass on the second verse ("Even though the days are changing...") Your phrasing on your songs are wonderful which really defines a great song and makes a basic chord progession pop. I look forward to hearing this one once completed. Good hearing a new one from you, it's been too long. Cheers

another one &mdash 10/14/08 - 10:24:53 PM
Gorgeous vocals. I've said it before, but man, i just love your voice. And this sound you've got going with the acoustic guitar and piano, and the synth soundbed underneath - totally cool. I'm building a Mckenzie playlist on my iPod - so start recording more of those 384298460000 songs you've got laying around! Another great tune - thank you!

Very cool &mdash 10/16/08 - 07:57:38 PM
Lovely vocal on this, and great feeling and expressiveness in the performance. Your delivery sounds heartfelt and real. I like the acoustic, but I know what drakonis means about a change-up in the pattern adding something. Nice restrained use of the piano, and I think a solid arrangement. I certainly think there could be more of a build-up, but don't lose the vibe! Lovely song, and a great performance. Nicely done. Peace.

good vibe &mdash 10/16/08 - 08:19:02 PM
Right from the start, your sensitivity comes out. Terrific vocal graced with gentle arrangement of casual guitar strumming and peaceful piano.

Stylistically, perhaps because of the piano arrangemnt, parts of this reminded me a bit of Bruce Hornsby when he does a ballad.

I really loved this unhurried piece, and loved taking my time listening to it. Didn't want it to end. Really good performance here.

October &mdash 10/17/08 - 08:26:08 PM
you have an incredibly mature and developed voice for your age and this is an excellent example of it. great beginnings of what promises to be an amazing song. Can't wait to hear it developed more. Great post.

Don't worry .. &mdash 10/19/08 - 01:52:09 PM

.. take your time .. it's a great song. Vocals always impressed me (as above) but you also have a great sense of perspective in the use of instrumentation imo too.

This is great as is .. would have to think long and hard to not spoil the simplistic effectiveness ..

One thing .. I liked the perhaps working title "all in my mind" instead of October. Would make a nice album title too.

Keep it up,

/Alan

WELL DONE! &mdash 10/20/08 - 02:28:51 PM
Right up my alley, mate. Loved every second of it. Good voice. Don't worry if it sounds a little repetitive to you, the mood of the song allows for it. Gives your listener time to float away ...... oops nearly fell off the planet. LMAO

Don't let it go to your head but you could make a living at this. Maybe even get known. Love your stuff.

Where have I been? &mdash 11/08/08 - 07:00:58 AM
First of all, sorry I haven't listened to your music until now. You have a great voice. I really wish I had that presence. I love the water-droplet piano sounding thing in the left channel. What exactly is that?
I think I have to agree with Drakonis on the wanting it to just burst open and get huge. But other than that I like it a lot. Gotta listen to more of your stuff soon.
