Description
Yo. (LOL!) - more rap for those who enjoy hip-hop.

The students were literally jumping out of their desks after hearing this beat. There was no way that they were going to spend another minute reading about the exploits of William Lyon MacKenzie after they heard me "...bust da groove."

The story: I had been hacking around with my MIDI keyboard and the sounds from BitShift the night before. I also found some samples that fit nicely with the drum track. After dribbling into work that next day, I shared the beat with the class and they freaked.

What you are hearing is a group of students laying down the "choral" section and our amazing Shennae letting loose with the freestyle. Everything you are hearing was pretty much done in one take. I then took what the kids did and made an arrangement. Your comments are appreciated.

I love what you are doing
It's really great to see what GB mixed with some kids w/
enthusiasm and talent can do. I think I actually liked this
one better than the first one. The hit at the very end is a
bit odd, but this is a fun peice (and I don't really like Rap
much).

Nice and catchy
Thanks people.

Actually, I too am not a big fan of rap or even hip hop (I find myself easily
tired of this style of music (All the more a challenge with kids in this Much
Music culture). I am a jazz/latin/funk musician "by trade" and currently
perform in a concert band!
<p>
Anyway, as for the ending of the song, it actually does not clip off like that
in the original mix. I'll check into that and upload a revised version.

how old are these kids?
Average age: 13

Walk of life: Toronto, Brampton, Jamaica

Future: We are making a CD of our best material. What you are hearing on
MacJams is part of our collection. We have two more songs to complete (both
are slower "jams").

Why? Our school holds an Entrepreneurial Fair at the end of Feb. Shennae
and her crew wish to sell copies of their music complete with logo and stuff
at the Feb. 25th event.

Thanks for all your great feedback and comments!!!!!

Love the chorus
I dig the sung chorus and the syncopation on the vocal
percussion thing you threw in every now and then. The
middle section (when the girl sang with a ton of reverb)
kind of lost the energy, even tho I love the lead girls
sounds. I dig the harmonies. Nice.

Fav teacher of the year?
The kids gotta love you for getting behind them on this kind of stuff. I'm one of the "rap non fans", though I've listened to quite a bit (making a point to my daughter about being open mided about different types of music.) Shennae did a great job, as did the backing chorus. Great job all around.

Think the kids would be up for a challenge like taking your current lessons and creating edgy rap relating history to current events?

Hope you pass on props to the kids from some of us "old fogies" to at MJ.
