Description:
This is a simple piano song that I hand wrote. I used a basic piano line that I was fiddling with earlier on in the day, then put the mouse to work scripting the song. I used a single VST program to produce the piano and synths. Interestingly enough, I didn't like it in straight 4/4 time, so I altered it and wrote it in 9/4 time.

Very nice &mdash 10/15/08 - 04:43:10 PM
Not sure I can handle 9/4 time in my own world but you do it well!

thanks! &mdash 10/15/08 - 08:35:28 PM
Thanks Mark!

I appreciate the compliment! When I was just plinking it out on the piano, I was playing it in 9/4 and just didn't know it until i tried to write it in 4/4 and it didn't sound right. Then I went back and paid attention.

If you have any other suggestions for how to develop this track, please, I'm all ears!

Really pretty ideas &mdash 10/20/08 - 12:21:55 PM
I like this... it has a hypnotic raindrop-drip-drip effect with the repeated mid-note... love the left hand sustained growl, and the occasional downward arpeggios, definitely "looking out a dark rainy window" type music. The level seemed way too low, you can probably re-record this with the audio boosted a lot. The 9/4 time actually smoothes this out some, lengthening the raindrop trails down the window pane, nice and broody.

ttfn,
Drakonis

thanks a bunch! &mdash 10/20/08 - 03:26:16 PM
thanks for listening and commenting Drak! I greatly appreciate it. Yes, the audio level is way too low. i noticed that after I burnt an mp3 disc for a friend and we had to crank it way up to hear it properly. I'll watch my levels next time! :)

Hi! &mdash 10/29/08 - 04:09:46 PM
Instead of "just" watching your levels you could do something about them ;-) I mean, not just "normalizing" them to get it louder but to work with the dynamics of the piece. I love it as it is, but you could make it even more emotional I think by playing some parts stronger and some softer.

I guess it COULD also be developed in a very strong pompous direction but I'm not sure it should. It reminds me a lot of Einarus' Over the Hill. Go listen if you haven't heard it yet!

Thanks to EZamor for hinting me in this direction. Got to go check what else you may have got here! Thanks!

this is beautiful; excellently written and well played. i like how it hints at darkness, but never actually delves too much into it.

maybe i'm too pessimistic, but i was totally expecting (and almost hoping) that it would bust out into a wall of distortion and NIN-esque ambiance at the end.

cheerz,

too true! &mdash 10/23/08 - 01:50:10 PM
I like it would be a good remix. Tell you what, I may work on something like that, but if you want that undertaking, i'd be glad to hear what you have in mind.

thanks again!

This is very respectful &mdash 10/28/08 - 04:52:43 PM
as if it were written to honor someone. It is calming. It is sweet with longing. How very serendipitous to have bounced in and been directed here. I love it. Thank you.
