Description:
Sorry for not being around as of late, but between work and this music project I have had little time to make it here. This is a song I have had for sometime and decided to post here since I haven't brought anything to the table in a while. With the political atmosphere the way it is I wanted to revisit a song that was in part inspired by the 2004 election year. I re-recorded the vocals here and remade the beat. The original Freedom can be found here
and there are many remixes done by the talented individuals here on MJs.

Along with new cuts and beats I added a segment of Senator Obama's speech given at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. This more than anything I believe placed him in the national spotlight and helped encourage him to do the things he is doing now.

Enjoy.

Lyrics:
Freedom; for all the righteous trapped in the pin
Freedom; for those who know the struggle wont end
Freedom; to see mistakes and try to correct
Freedom; to take up arms and try to protect

Life and liberty, Im in pursuit of it
Doing it
And guard against those who try to ruin it
Foolishness
To think that it wont come at a price
Wether you pray to Allah, Jah, Buddha, or Christ
Everyone struggles
Singles and couples
Through the good times and troubles
The plight could be exaggerated or subtle
But freedom is a state we have a right to claim
That might explain why some fight despite the pain
While others might refrain
We don't fight the same
Some fight with words
Others fight with deeds
Some might concede
While many sacrifice till the end of their life indeed
Protest the war
Support the troops
Stop the violence
report the truth
Wether you are an American soldier on these Baghdad blocks
Or a Palestinian armed with nothing but rocks you want

Freedom; a God given right for all
Freedom; most willing to fight and brawl
Freedom; the real meaning of being empowered
I'd rather die like a man, than live Like a coward

Who's to blame for the hate that hate created
And led us down this crooked path that fate created
We suffer and die everyday while they debate it
Dishonoring the memories of our great belated
What's the real threat to freedom within our nation
Terrorism or our mismanaged education
Is it Al-Queda and these jihadist monsters
Or these crooked politicians with corporate sponsors
Im not blind to the evils that men perform
Putting pressure on us all to then conform
I will end the storm
And pursue a life where my own mind is free to begin to form
Some are trapped cause they're over their heads in debt
Junk food, drugs, Alcohol, cigarettes
It's a persuit for completion
From the streets of Mississippi to the Dafur region they want

Freedom; to live a lifestyle free of strees
Freedom; against the wicked that would opress
Freedom; to give aid to those neglected
Freedom; to be me and you to accept it

Well said. And timely. There is a lot of fear being spread around today. We need to hear more about Freedom!

Thanks

This song is an expression of what matters to me (socially and politically). I think that these themes never change in the long run. Thank you for the listen.

not bad man, has an old school feel the way you spit and your sound. honest opinion though i didnt feel the beat suited the lyrics. the beat came across as light hearted/immature feeling. not immature as in amatuer but like infantile, like you should be rapping about the state of our children and generation. thats just what i gathered from hearing the music. its suchj a mature and involving topic, the topic of freedom that it seemed to me a more progressive/emotional struggling kind of beat would compliment the lyrics. im just tryin to be constructive with critz. other than that and as seperate entities the beat was cool, but its your lyrics that shined on this.

Thanks &mdash 10/16/08 - 08:20:29 AM
I feel you on that. The beat is something that just kind came together. I love this song though I think the music leaves a lot to be desired. Glad you liked the lyrics to it. Thanks for the input.

Very Good and Interesting &mdash 10/16/08 - 12:21:07 PM
You have breathed new life into this track and kept it up to date. Its a very good new remix and love the new add on vocals esp the Obama speech. Relavent and hits the point hard, like all your tracks. Really well done Mitch.

Diviner my man!! &mdash 10/16/08 - 09:49:17 PM
Thanks for the compliment. The added Obama part was originally going to go to another track, but the political tone of this song made me decide to place it here. I felt since this song was my first use of a mic I had to redo it considering the lack of intensity I pushed on the first version.

Solid Production &mdash 10/20/08 - 12:16:05 PM
Always, but had to say, the production on this is very elegant. VOTE NOVEMBER 4th!!! This song alone should inspire one to understand the value of that vote! Thanks for sharing.
