Description:
This is a new mix of Was It something I said (w/karmatoburn, jimbouchard, z293, & rich mussacio) by michael2. It turns out that that earlier version contained a guitar solo not by z293, unbeknownst to me, but by someone else, much to everyone's embarassment (well, except maybe Z's) and when the proper guitar solo surfaced, it was so crazy and raw I just had to do a remix. When Z finally sent me the version without the reverb, I laid it in there relatively raw, changed the drum kits from the earlier version to EZ Drummer's Drumkit From Hell and Twisted Kit and removed some of my rhythm guitar parts and and some other stuff. I've dug Z's stuff since way back when and I was glad to appear with him in this song, along with karmatoburn and michael2, of course. I hope you enjoy it!
The first guitar solo is z293, the guitar solo at the end is Rich Mussachio, and the first backwards guitar part in the first verse is z293 reversed, and that's me playing a reverse delayed guitar loop in the last verse. The last chorus guitar is z293 reversed on the outro.

what a giant work ..the song itself is so great !!!
Kudos to all ..no words can describe the depth of
this song ....Deepest bow to all
ktb
for not only fixin my braincramp in omiting the Z, but for completely re-tooling the tune. I like the tribal feel now in the percussion, and the little production flourishes (reverse mix etc). You've got such a great ear for making everything work together.
ps..when i d/l'd the tune the genre was porn groove :-) does this mean we have a regular gig?
Jim Bouchard
How'd that get in there? No, really, that's an actual genre that you can select in iTunes. People that download it at work are gonna get in trouble! LOL
Z293
For letting me back in the band. But that can't be my guitar, there's no over use of reverb and delay, oh wait, Jim did the mix. Nice job Jim, KTB and Michael. It's always pleasure to hear what I do mixed into someone
elses hard work.
A different feel. Less structured ... or something. Z293 adds his special eyes-closed-teeth-gritting touch. He's great. Still impressed by the composition, the vocals, the mix. Again, congratulations on a top collaborative effort.

...this is good! Love the rawness of the first solo, and the backwards guitar (how do you get that effect, can you do it in GB or is it only in Logic?).
The chorus hook is really catchy after a while, isn't it?
Excellent stuff!

The backwards effect can be pretty easily done in Logic, where you open the part you want to reverse in the Sample Editor and you click on Reverse. It's not possible in GB directly. You have to take the bit you want to reverse into some external audio editor like Audacity. I use Peak but Audacity is free. In this song there's that type of reversed part but also there's a part that I played through a pedal that I have that applies a reverse delay. It is for live playing of backwards-sounding parts. It's pretty cool and a whole different thing because you can make a backwards part while playing the song live. Reversing audio can be sort of random otherwise.
thanks for the comment!

Especially the keys.
Great mix Jim - an all-round party!

I could see this playing in my ghetto apartment in 1969 or the early 70's. I love this type of sound where it goes from being thick and busy to lean and laid back and then back again. A little bit of Quicksilver Messenger Service in there? Reminds me of "What ya gonna do about me".

Love the keys in this, and the percussion is terrific. Lovely guitar work all round! A jazzy feel at times and lovely funky groove at times. Nice vocal, and a really sweet arrangement. There is so much going on that it constantly intrigues, shifting direction just when you think you have it pinned down. Massive work. Kudos to everyone involved. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

Great mix, love the percussion/bass work especially.

absolutely killer ... well done and congrats to all involved.

on all fronts, musicians harem. Some, great touches and of course amazing playing.

Almost claustrophobic, very closed-in feeling, gives me a bit of John Martin vibe. Particularly liked that that opening with the acoustic bass and percussion...

now getting to hear this. i've been crazy busy and missed it. damn you're good JIm. your mixing skills are scarey. I think I may prefer this version to the other. it sounds so lush, and more stoney than the other version. really turned out nice. proud to have been involved with this one.

I've listened to two tracks so far and I dig em both. Big time. This one hit a soft spot because of the David Sylvian-esque vibe. Very impressive.
BossHook
the way this slithers and creeps along. Ambitious drum program work, sweet guitars, sleek vocal. Great collab.

Not having heard the original, I love the percussion, and all the deeper sounds of this. I don't need to say how amazing the guitar is. Jim. it is a fantastic mix to my ears.
But what I can't get over is Michael's vocal performance. Wow. It is intense. One of my favorites of his. Any chance of getting the lyrics?
