Description:
I wish I had more time to get into my electric guitar. And I've been wanting to post another electric tune. Nothing earthshattering...but just to change things up a bit.
So:
This is from the first demo tape that a band I used to play in (Absolute Zero) put out. We recorded it onto a 4 track Fostex. So be prepared for the hisssssssssssssss....
Lyrics Drums and Synths: Anthony Annucci
Bass: Greg Carson
Vocals: Scott Elliott and Katie Evans
Guitars: Bob Prince

...the hsssssss used to be standard and faded into the background. Amazing how our senses adapt to present realities.

there was a boston based band my friend was in by this name, and I used to follow them to gigs all the time. Sounded a lot like Absolute Zero (minus the incredible Katie). I so like this sound. Esp with Katie. These folks still cranking out the cool sounds?
guitapick
Cool name. Katie's got a great voice. Played some wonderful jazz flute, too.
No...we broke up back in 1996. A bit of a shame, as we were really playing well, at that point.
Thanks for the listen and taking the time, k2b.
Hissssssssssss....You know Bob, you COULD pass it off as part of the song if you re-titled this one "Wind." lol
Hey! Who cares about a little hiss anyway? Really nice funky track. Cool vocals, plucky 80's style bass, and great guitar chops! ENJOYED!
Be well my Prince!
guitapick
Thanks, Micheal.
"Wind"...or "Electric Wind"...

To be honest, I don't even notice the hiss - I'm too distracted by the song (in a good way!) which is a really nice groove. Lovely vocal performances and, of course, excellent guitar work. Good stuff. Great to hear some of this stuff from your journey. Very cool. Peace.
guitapick
...could really sing. Katie left the band fairly early on, though...she was more into jazz.
Thanks for the listen.
egobandit
very cool bass in this that greg guy is rockin it. sounds like a fun band to see ... like the singing cool and funky enjoyed!
guitapick
...they carry the tune. We played out a lot. It was a lot of fun playing in this band.
Vic Holman
cool to hear some earlier stuff Bob. I dig those funky guitar rhythms. the bass player sure has that slap style down.
darn, i don't have any techy questions this time around.
guitapick
Greg had that funky thang down. Here's a "techy answer" to your non-question:
At first he played on a MusicMan Stingray 4 string bass (what you hear on this track). Then he got the 5 string Stingray. The "new and improved". I thought it was a more versatile ax...but, for slap funk, I liked the 4 string better. Seemed more direct.
kristyjo
Still- it reminds me of younger days :) Lots of fun to listen to, and yeah, it is different than your recent posts. Very funky.
guitapick
...yes...pretty amazing, huh...?

you rockin' Bob. Obviously a really tight and well rehearsed band who deserved to have success. Excellent vocalists and musicians. Love your guitars and I hope you get the time for us to hear more of the electric you.
Cheers

...I'd love to make more time for the electric. Got some tunes to record. It's taken a back seat to the acoustic lately, though. I'm sure I'll get back to it...but not in time to be a young buck guitar hero...
MarkHolbrook
I have sound soap... I wonder if it would take the hiss some... Would be willing to try if you want... But really the hiss is not too bad actually!
guitapick
I'd be very interested. Why not send me your email address and I'll send you the AIFF...
Thanks, Mark

...between AWB and The Fixx...
I know that more pressure will help you, Bob, as it helps me... So this is my vote for more of you on electric guitar...
Nice funkulossity here, and neat, intelligent use of the era's effect pedals and the wah...

...my Radiotone guitar, one of my effects I sold was a half rack Roland Pitch Shift Delay. It was a GREAT unit...but I was very happy to get the Radiotone.
A few years later and, no matter what I did, I couldn't re-create the sounds I could get out of that Roland along with the chorus, flanger, delay pedals (that's what I used for those high, sweeping sound effects in this piece).
Took forever...but I eventually found one on line. Much as I like the midi controlled presets you can do, nowadays...there's a lot of room for creativity with the older units.
Thanks for the electric vote, Ed. I'll do my best...

Bob,
I don't know a darned thing about guitars, but I do know when they're played well and artistically: that's what I found listening to this number. Some really great effects, to be sure. For my ears, though, I found this a little "trebley" and sort of wished the bass end of the spectrum was cranked up a little. But, hey, I just got back from a Beethoven/Mendelssohn concert a few minutes ago, so what do I know? (The vocals are cool on this number, though I couldn't understand the lyrics...again, my failing hearing.) Nevertheless, this was sure fun to listen to and so intricate in the amazingly counterpuntal accompaniment.
Peace.

...recording this, I took lessons with this great rhythm guitarist. He taught me how to relax my right hand and "flatten" the tone of my rhythm playing. If I recorded this again, I'd definitely have edged the treble/volume down.
It's a cool tune, though...lots of fun to play.
Hope you enjoyed the concert, Paul.

mentioned "The Fixx" that's the first thing I thought of.I really like your Andy Summers-like playing on this. You have killer rhythm and the volume pedal stuff sounds awesome. Great Band!
davisamerica
is super cool Bob !
Axgrinder
No, really though, this is tight! And what's more.... you have VOCALS! I've been missin out bro! The Alternative of this song was to leave me shaken, not stirred, correct me if I'm mistaken.... Im impressed! Keep churnen em out. Anything you can do to fatten the mix would only increase an already solidly produced number, hiss or no!!! Nice work and kudo's to you all....
);-PEACE,
Alvin

...I have NO idea what genre to put this tune in. So..."yeah"...I chose "the alternative".
Pretty smart, eh?
Thanks, Alvin. You're right. Definitely could use more bass. Hadn't even thought of dropping it into a GB project...but why not?
dirigent
Awesome guitar-playing, great crisp sound. Superb delivery, fine work, I dig it!!!
VicDiesel
Very groovy tune. Bit thin sounding. Maybe you can do something about that with some fancy plugins?
guygrooves
although I couldn't get anything of mine to sound this good even the hiss lol. Very cool song Bob.
Peace
Guy
Hey are those fostex 4 tracks antiques yet?? ;o)
bud
cool track Bob - would have been a good Analogapalooza entry.
