Description:
A tune in a traditional Swedish folky fashion. But it is not a traditional gånglåt (walking tune), just a thingy I was playing around with the other day. The tecnicalities about tre recording are far from perfect, but I like the theme that came up here. Didn't record with the intention to post, but rather because I have this new ZOOM H2, (see more below). You can hear MrsCurrry potter about the house.
The photo is from Kärrtorp; the small suburb close to Stockholm, Sweden where I grew up. I found the photo on the net. It was taken 1955 when I was three, so it could as well be me and my mother on that picture.
A few comments on the hardware:
The guitar is of the brand Rokkoman a dreadnought that look very much like a Martin D28. She plays quite well. She has a nice and living tone but far from top quality. I found her brand new in a store about 35 years ago very cheap (about 400SEK wich would be about $60). I have reasons to suspect she is from a series by Takamine that didn't fill the standard and that they've re-labled to sell out.
The recorder is a ZOOM H2, a most fantastic little thing in my opinion (in case anyone wanna know). I lovet it. Next to my Mac this is the most usefull technical device I own. Since I bought it a couple of months ago I've been using it almost every day. It is so fast to set up for recording an idea that pops up; swtich it on, press rec button to watch the level meter moves, press rec button again and your recording. I use it for many purposes: as a dictating machine, for quick recording of musical ideas, to catch interesting sounds around the house, on rehearsals with friends. It produces quite a good sound quality - I will come back later with recordings of my better guitar (a Furch D24), and you'll be able to judge.

loverly playing...
I agree, the H2 is a great recording device. I've had one for about two months now. I use it a lot also.
Cori Ander
Hi Dadai,
So we're zoom-pals :-) nice !
I think I've never seen such a fast response. As soon as the tune was uploaded I got to check that everything was ok, and there your new logo was already. You're faster than internet!
And thank you for a warm comment!

Tusen tak. Great music for a stroll. Lovely clear, natural sound from the guitar.
Cori Ander
Tusen tack till dig kompis!
Glad you appreciated!

Enjoying the quiet touches here. Your guitar playing is always a treat. I was surprised to hear this was recorded with a small recorder, sounds very good to me.
Thanks
Bill
Cori Ander
Thank you Bill .. wait till you'll hear a recording of a better instrument .. I think that'll be even more impressing.

Cori I always enjoy your playing. You do it so well.

what an awesome pickin the style is so very much related
to the old school as well ..there s a sence of baroque
there and its all so wonderful if that s swedish then
its all the good ...about H2 I did use it on (my sweet
lady) song I posted ..I think its perfect for live
recordings I heard Dadai(Jack Miller)live sessions
done by this ...I think it worth the money and you really
made it the best here thnx alot for sharin !!!!
Cori Ander
Thank you Feter! Glad your hear a sence of baroque in there since I'm an old lover of master Bach's music. Wonder if that may mean I may have got some imspiration from there...

Sounds great, Johannes! It may not be a traditional gånglåt, but it sounds like you've captured the spirit of one to me; It would work well if you added some fiddles too.
Interesting to read your comments about the mike. I did my first digital recording of my own playing last summer (and uploaded it to MacJams), and I found it to be a pretty frustrating experience because I did not have a good set-up for it. What I have now works okay, but I like the idea of just plugging in a mike and recording every time you feel inspired, rather than getting so frustrated trying to get things right that by the time you do, you're no longer inspired!
Always nice to hear your music.
Cori Ander
What you mention has been so much, and so often, exatctly my experience. You put it so well. Here again:
You feel inspired and get so frustrated trying to get things right that by the time you do, you're no longer inspired...
There have been so many good moments lost from that.

Inviting us us into your parlor, kitchen, whatever, as you've done here is a privilege I have enjoyed, (and thank you Mrs. Curry for putting up with the mob here,) but I truly enjoyed this performance , and did not hesitate to download. You have a gift, sir, and eagerly await what you have next. Thanks for this. Terry
Cori Ander
Thanks a lot Terry!

i've been impressed how well the zoom has worked for a few folk here.
nice tune & melody!
Cori Ander
Thank you for stopping by Vic!

as a great combination of european traditional and american blues. Very Parisian and sexy with some body grind of some sophisticated big city r&b. Think I'll have to get a copy of this for the playbacks.
Even with the foot into the music stand effects. :-) Ahhh, the realism of it. Your work is ever inspiring.
Cori Ander
Big city r&b .. never thought of it that way, but thank you, inspiring to know. Parisian yes, I can hear some of that, but didn't think of it before so thanks for pointing it out!

Nice song man! My brother in law brought over a zoom a while back and we recorded a few songs with just acoustic and mandolin and I was amazed at the clarity of the tone. This one is no exception to that rule. Great 'walkin' tune. Jaunty and haunting in a way.

Cori Ander
.. yes the zoom seem to be very well recieved among MJ:ers and others .. thank you for stopping by PV

...playing indeed. You have got a nice acoustic guitar sound here and I like the rattles in the background which make it sound very natural.
Enjoyed -

haha .. glad you like the rattles .. i'm a bit like that myself, i like it things that makes the recordings "real" ... thank you for a nice comment
Ed Hannifin
...it's great to hear your playing again...
I can hear the difference between this and your more painstakingly recorded tunes, but only just the tiniest bit...You've got a fully professional tone from the Zoom, and I imagine that being able to be up and recording in seconds is a great advantage...
I really love the tune, and the tone that you're getting from the guitar.
Ed
Cori Ander
yes, i guess that is the "pains-take" that you hear .. relaxed plaing is different than the more ambitious plaing that happens after carefully setting up for good recording ..

I don't own one, but I love what you can do with it. The idea of recording whenever you have inspiration is great. This piece is really fine, too. Mellow, minor, and 'off the cuff'. I sometimes get my mac set up to do this kind of thing, but it never, ever sounds this good :) And, usually, the telephone rings just as I get to the end of something. Great post.
Cori Ander
haha .. yes those things happen .. telephone ringing in the middle of it all .. thank you for the comment

Cori you never disappoint man. You are amongst the greats here. Loved every note, and learned a little of a music genre I didn't know about until now. Tack.

Tack Fred for such an uplifting comment! By the way I dig your latest song (The One with Henri Rogers and Elevator Funk) a lot!

to hear you play, Curry. I wonder how many people will go out and buy a zoom after reading the liner notes. I'll be saving for one after reading that. So many times I'll get an idea for a melody or lyrics and forget it because I'm not able to set up recording stuff. Anyway.. this sounds nice and clear. I really like the natural sounds; it makes me feel as if I'm sitting in your house and Mrs. Curry is making tea. It is so amazing how you make up melodies and your fingers automatically play it so well as you go along. Beautiful...:-)
Cori Ander
Thank you Roxylee .. One important note on the zoom though, if you want the easy to use solution, look for the zoom H2. There is also an earlier model zoom H4 wich has been critzised for it's complicated user interface .. the H4 is also more expensive, though it can do a few things the H2 can't for example supply phantom feed to external mics...
lavalamp
You have a fantastic style.
And thanks for the insight regarding the Zoom H2.

Thank you Dave!

Fantastic composition and playing. The Zoom sounds very good indeed. I'm glad to hear you sometimes let a little sniff get recorded. Everything I record has a sniff or two on it but each time it happens I swear that I never sniffed!
Enjoyed this a lot so thanks for sharing
best wishes

Cori Ander
haha.. glad you enjoy the sniffs, since ive always get a bit disturbed and maybe a bit embarrassed when later discovering them :)

how the pic matches the nice guitar work.
Thanks for taking the time out and recording this!
Cori Ander
Thank you Bill!

as allways...I love your music.
Any comment by me I think is nothing compared too all these scilled people on the internet. They are really all great people.
:-) there´s really not much noice from me in the house in this tune. A good recording machine....haha sorting out sounds.
Puss o kram ;)

This piece has both an honest feel and sound to it... even more so with the missus puttering around in the background.
A very warm and somewhat melancholy tune.
Nicely done, my friend. ;)

Thanks Joe! Glad you liked it!

very jaunty! I like the recording, very free!

This feels like the perfect music to slow-down with after listening to a set of rowdy stride piano with its boucing left hand. The alternating thumb-work is as tasty as the melody line.
Almost a touch of Gypsy in here to my ears.
Regards to your Rokkoman and ZOOMer.
