Euro Slicer Piano Bud (1)
Description:
Here is my addition to Bud's excellent Euro Slicer Sound bed. Grabbed this pretty early in the process of improvising over the sounds. Hope I was able to catch some spontaneity without hitting too many sour notes or clumsy rhythms. Henri Roger also did an excellent version. Are there any others that I missed?

Welcome to Macjams. Glad you like the trend in the tune. Will we be hearing a tune or phree in the future??

Sent me off on a big city stroll, streets filled with faces and yellow taxis. Lovely playing, and great sound. Your music and the soundbed sound like they were made for each other - which has to be a good thing! Nicely done. Peace.
peacepiano
Easy to play when the sound bed is so well put together. Thanks for the comments.
spitlogic
You have definitely put an interesting addition to this track. The playing here to me seems to "humanize" the song. Nice freestyle on the keys.
peacepiano
Thanks, I had perhaps gotten carried away by overusing the time fixing in some of my other songs. No fixes here :)

I am glad I stopped by. I had heard this awhile ago when Bud posted it. I think you tapped into the groove quite nicely. Stellar keyboard chops Bill. this is a top notch production. Kudos to both you and Bud.
Peace

Always good to hear from you. Glad you like the additions to Bud's tune. Do you want mayo or mustard with that?

...you're live in a studio puttin' down cool tracks of sound and playing off of each other with ease and a sense of irection. This is pretty darn cool. I wonder if it's going to go anywhere else. .... OH, I love the dissonant chords and those lead lines that creep in and out of the soundbed. Very nice, indeed.
Peace.

Enjoyed your comments. Well placed dissonance can be a good thing!

I love the electric piano tone you're using - and the flowing line is a great counterpoint to the start stop feel of the bass. Excellent keys - reminds me a bit of Herbie Hancock Head Hunters era. Thanks for posting - I'll add it to the original page.
peacepiano
Thanks for letting me play. This piano was a pretty safe bet, it got high praise when I've used it on other jams :)

regulus
any major errors on this you masked them over with a smooth-a-tude in your digital dexterity. Fun and entertaining.
I think this could be a little more appreciated in the jazz genre as well.
Oh, I'd like a half pound of pastrami and some gouda cheese please. Sliced in the same groove as you playing......... bravo
peacepiano
It is pretty jazzy, but that opening beat... :) Genres are sometimes tough.
Oh, and your sandwich is on the way!
lengold
nodding jazzy funk - like this a lot. Great listen.

I like your take on this. Your piano sound really fits this groove.
peacepiano
Thanks, maybe I should have been more social as a kid so I could have played in a live band :)

Well affected piano :-)
Very nice improvisation over Bud's groove.
peacepiano
Glad you like it. I had to wait a week after hearing yours, because I couldn't get it out of my head!

Well you know I have always loved you playing and writing. It just keeps getting better and with each song.

...could improvise like this, Bill. There's such a nice energy and flow to what you're doing here and I agree with the people who say they love the piano tone. Is it one you made yourself? You really meshed well with Bud's track. It sounds like you're in a room with all those musicians. Totally dug this.

Piano sound is a modification of the GarageBand electric piano. The overdrive is used so that there is more distortion when I hit the keys harder or play a chord and conversely when I want a cleaner sound I play softly. Most of my "practice" is improvising, so it is always a treat when I can play over a track like Bud's. Thanks for the comments.
Enrique Gil
i love the electric piano sound, nice syncopation, nice rhythm.
peacepiano
Always good to hear from a real piano player :)

...of a yellow taxi in Manhattan; raining on a grey warm city afternoon as a cop writes a ticket to a double-parked limo on the corner. A woman in a long red leather coat breezes by, far too important and beautiful to notice someone like me. The rain is warm, and feels good on my face.
Two elderly Italian men argue about something as they walk slowly past, arguing the way old friends argue, and a subway thumps and clanks unseen from a metal grate below my feet. I can smell the scent of the subway wafting up from the darkness. Another attractive girl drifts past, chatting with a friend on a cellphone.
I sip my styrafoam cup filled with coffee, and feel the rain on my face. There are days I love the city, and this tune perfectly captures why.
p.s. I love the little trill right at the end!
peacepiano
Cool images. I might start spending more time in the city now :)
