Description:
Some time ago, my crazy brother-in-law left a little ditty on my answering machine. I believe it's an old folksong from the yeovil (UK) area where he's from. Little did he know that I would take that clip and use it for my own devices! What I tried to do is compose a traditional theme and variations from the various melodic phrases in the song, trying to make them overlap in interesting ways. After I play with the theme in myriad ways, you'll hear the voicemail song at the end. It was a lot of fun to do and I hope you get some enjoyment out of it.
Lyrics:
"Where be that blackbird beI know where he be!
He be up yon Wurzel tree
And I'll be after he
Well, I sees he
And he sees I
Wonder if I can't get-un
With a gert big stick
I'll knock him flat
Blackbird, I'll 'ave e!"

It was a strange project - but fulfilling! I like playing with 'found art' - beware of a man with a tape-recorder!

I'm impressed with your use of the Orchestra Jam Pack - sounds very authentic. I have no idea what I'm doing with it!!!!
First tune of yours I've heard, but will check out more - great stuff!

p.s love the end!

My first experiments with the jam pack were flat. I found that you have to tweak certain instruments - especially the strings, which don't have proper sustain. Also - some mastering helps. Thanks for listening -- I will go listen to some of yours also.

Love the ending as well. Sometimes you have to work with crazy people in order to produce anything worthwhile!
This was fun.

Yes - crazy people - or catching people when they don't know they are being recorded. Will familiarize myself with your stuff too - thanks for listening!

From what I've heard of yours, the production is top notch. I hope we get to put our heads together one of these days.

Nice treatment here. It's interesting; the music often has a kind of 'being played backwards feel, at least in the repetitive material about a third of the way through. It's a bit hypnotic!

I had to brush up on my rusty theory knowledge in order to make the thematic statements vary in different ways. As well as the usual inversions, modulations, and phasing - I think I did use a voice to reverse it. Glad you liked it and thanks for our comments!

Just beautiful and relaxing piece of work... Really enjoyed the listening.. Peace

Check out my new 'wine-tasters' post - perhaps you can mash it up.

great band after lots of cider, that song is a legend in itself. Great that you chose to do a remake of this, sounds like you know and understand music and have created a fine Orchestra. ooo are...

Funny you should mention that. My brother in law goes on about the Wurzels but I've never actually seen them. Have to go YouTube them. I do remember the old Wurzel Gummidge TV program though. Now for me Zider....
