What the Summer is About

Description
I've said in the past that growing up, all the cool bands had a devil song. They also all had an obsession song (bordering on creepy stalking). And I don't know about you, but there was no better setting for obsession than high school, watching that girl walk down the hall or wait in line at the cafeteria and thinking 'if she was my girl then my life would be complete'. So that's what this little tune is about.

Lyrics
watching you eat your lunch
with your friends at a table in the cafeteria
you're tapping your plastic tray
with your silverware to supertramp playing on the radio
and what you may not know
yeah what you may not know

is you and me in love
is what this summer is all about
(this summer is all about me and you)
yeah you and me in love
is what this summer is all about
(this summer is all about me and you)

watching you brush your hair
in your car after your last class in the senior parking lot
you're grooving to the beat of this song
it's playing on the mix tape that I left behind your wiper blade
and what you may not know
yeah what you may not know

is you and me in love
is what this summer is all about
(this summer is all about me and you)
yeah you and me in love
is what this summer is all about
(this summer is all about me and you)

happy stalking days
lol you know i was thinking when i wrote the description for the song that alot of what guys call 'romance' is pretty much stalking anyway. the 'winners' are those that by some form of stockholm syndrome convince the victim that they are the ones interested in the relationship...

Wonderful..
.. yet again you manage to layer it all up and achieve a sonic goldmine. love those vocal arrangements. Suitably retro yet feeling like a "now" song.
You're too cool for school dude!

With Her My Life Is Complete
Isn't that the truth? I mean, isn't that we we thought would be the truth?

Best lyric "it's playing on the mix tape that I left behind your wiper blade". I can't be the only macjammer that gets vivid high school imagery from your songs, am I? Supertramp playing on the radio - that's just perfect!

I enjoyed the way you played with the repeating, almost stuttering back up vocals.

Cool and innocent "stalker to be" music. Watching you.... definitely borderline creepy, but really naive and pimple faced stalkings of the least threatening kind.

mc tempie
i've always been one of those white guys that admires hip hop but in a kind of self conscious "i know i'm a yokel" kind of way so that stutter is a tribute to my inner mc. also nobody noticed but there is subtle scratching going on under the drums...

another great one
great tune... like the subtlety of how the stalkerish element is brought out...
nice melody and background vocals as usual.
you've got a great, distinctive voice which is really well recorded - as usual.

I like your rhythm guitar playing which is really economical and also distinctive.

rhythm guitar
i like to put songs together more than I like to play guitar, so i've never been more than a passable guitarist. but i taught myself so if nothing else my style is 'unique' to me lol. thanks!

Me too
.. self taught guitarist. I get complimented for "simple elegance" but its all I know. Something to be said for it I guess, creativity over craftsmanship. In your case though, the craft is in the construction - elegant minimalism I'd call it.

Wonderful song
Lovely catchy song and lyrics - I went to an all boys school so was even more obsessed with girls as we had none to look at all day.
Really enjoyed this - love the way you interleave the vocals. A lot of work has gone into this, and it was very worthwhile work.
Cheers
Len

I really like the way you approached the vocals - the sarcastic tone and especially all the overlapping. guitars sound good too and i like the lo-fi sound. cool song man well done.

Great arrangement -
I like the density when you pile it on especially the trumpet back there. Very cool - you have a lot of imagination and the chops to pull it off. Nice.

I never
remember which of your songs I missed. This one is ripe for sure. I think we all wanted to be Lloyd Dobler in High School. Probably because we thought it work. Great song as usual!
