Description:
This is an update and re-recording of a song I posted soon after joining Macjams. It's a song I wrote and played in the 80's when I was but a child (I lie, LOL).... OK I was in my thirties (still lying). Anyway, it's a song I always liked and i thought it deserved re-visiting, as the first version was lopsided guitar-wise and also needed filling out some. I hope I've managed to put it right with this version. M

Love the latin feel of this and the lyrics are great.
One thing that I think would help this song would be to lower the level of the high pitched instrument playing along with the melody line. It seemed to be distracting me away from the rest of the song, which is very good.
You might even want to try the song out without that part in the mix at all and see how it sounds. The sound is a little shrill to my ears, but then again, we all know I'm going deaf. You might also want to ignore everything I just said.
It's a lovely song Maurice and has a gentle swaying feel to it. Very nice indeed.
Be well and be coll,
Ed
Moviz
for the nice comment. I did try it with an organ sound, but it was too distracting and heavy, so I settled for the eerie magic whistle, which I did use in the first version. cheers M

Great song and I adore your voice and lyrics! I can't wait to listen to more of you...this song puts a smile on my face.
Moviz
meet you Tracy and thank you for those nice words.... though I had to wait for a good day before singing this LOL. I hope you're not too disappointed with my other songs though, regards M

you have that happy- easy-going feel to your music. It is the kind of music I like in these troubled times. Your music isn't too depressing but tells a great story of love and it's importance.
Thanks for moviz for sharing, your an important aspect to the MJ community!
Like Sloparts stated a nice "latin" pop feel.
Thanks for sharing !
Moviz
it always pleases me that you take the time to listen and comment on my songs; that's very flattering knowing of your musical expertise; much appreciated, regards M

These sounds have me in the frame of mind of the
70-80s for sure, and it is delivered by an authentic original!
What light hearted music with a nice beat.
Sure haven't heard this music lately. I need to dig back
for this mellow happy music. Thanks for posting.
Moviz
Glad to be able to bring back a few memories; I think at my age this kind of music pattern must all be 'built in', cheers M

enjoyed Bossa Nova and have some really fond memories with such playing in the back ground, foreground during those times. You have a real nice one here, one of your best for me. I kind of go along with sloparts on the pitch to the keyboard part. Half way through, i spaced it out and didn't pay any attention until the end. Noting really critical, but it tenses up the mellow laid back in the hammock with the mini umbrella drink in hand, under the tropical palm trees, feeling to the rest of it.
Great song, you could do a couple more like it and I'd be happy too. Glad your making this world a better place to be.
Moviz
Nice to see you again and I'm glad you liked the song. I wondered if those who don't like the ethereal whistle in the back are listening through headphones as opposed to speakers? I can understand what you say if you're a headphone listener, but through my speakers it fits snugly behind the vocal. Maybe I should have used it intermittently though, as Paul (below) suggested, regards M

great groove, and I really like the synth line that's floating around in the background. it's funny that I just noticed sloparts didn't like that bit; it's interesting to me how people can hear things from a different contextual viewpoint. your older than I, so you probably have a different point of origin with Bossa Nova (maybe more traditional), whereas my first exposure to it was via electronic music (well that and my mom playing the girl from impanema). but regardless of your take on this, it's a great song.
Moviz
Oh, definitely more on the traditional side Michael and I'm glad that you approve of the sound as is, regards M

What kind of magic is this song? Wonderful choice of sounds in the arrangement, excellent vocal delivery, I'm in awe!!!
Moviz
I'm in awe that you're in awe of my vocals when you are the master of vocal delivery; thank you so much for your kind remarks, regards M

...goes on. Marvelous song, Maurice, sung with your characteristic ease. You sound so comfortable with this and I am glad you revisited it. I read comments above about the high organ/whistle. Here's a thought (well, two thoughts): Just drop it entirely; just bring it in on the chorus. I found it distracting when I just wanted to listen to your voice. I have been doing the same lately with some vocal things I've been working on: --over writing and then taking things away to leave the voice way out front. It's hard to let go, but it almost always is more satisfying. ... The end is clipped off of your track. Don't know if that's just on my side. ... I really enjoyed this song. More, please.
Peace.
Paul
Moviz
for your much appreciated comments and advice on the song. I admit that for some maybe it's the continuous-ness of the ethereal synth in the back, that's the problem as I explained to Regulus above. Then again maybe it's because it is a little more pronounced through headphones as opposed to speakers. Thanks again M
Moviz
whistle at the end happened in the uploading Paul, because it fades nicely on my version, M

Gritty vocals goes well on this tune. The arrangement is very good. Glad I stopped by.

it's cool that you revisited this. i don't think i heard the first one. So, this is fresh to my ears and it sounds great. i think you nailed it.

nice of you to give it a listen and pleased that you approve, regards M

Very cool song, and I love that keyboard counter melody. The character of the sound reminds one of old theatre organs.
Moviz
the call Vic, pleased that you like the easy going sound and the 'Mulder' whistle too from Alpha CN synth. Regards M

There's such a positive feeling in your music, Maurice. You must have a great calm about you...
Nice minimal arrangement, which I admire, as I tend to over-orchestrate my work. It's as if you trust the song to carry itself, which it does quite well. Your singing has an infectious joyfulness, too.
Another very lovely song from you, Maurice. Thanks for posting it.
Moviz
to post such a positive comment for me Futzpucker. I couldn't be more pleased with those remarks. As regards you 'over-orchestrating' your work; if you don't tell anyone, they certainly won't notice, because it all seems so well balanced and professional always, regards M
Char
an easy grace. Very nice Latin rhythm, too. Thanks, Maurice!
Moviz
thanks for dropping by with that kind remark; very nice of you to do so, Cheers M

...still works for me in the 21st century...at least...that IS where we are, now...isn't it?
Sweet tune, Maurice...thanks for the post and the chord chart...
Moviz
that Bob; pleased that you like it. You will of course gather that the chords have lost their true position in the uploading process, they seem to have gathered at one end of the line instead of their true position, but with your expertise, I'm sure you'll work it out OK. Thanks again for the call, regards M
Bob Rodgers
lovely song Maurice and as always a great vocal.
I did not hear your other version but I love this and this was very much enjoyed.
Thanks,
Bob
Moviz

You will certainly get your way with the ladies with this track. Nice, interesting music and cool lyrics. Well done.

calling in with the comment Keith, very kind of you, but I think I'll need more than a love song these days to attract the ladies LOL, Cheers M

I did not expect Bossa Nova from so far away as the UK! Very nice my friend. Keep on singing!
Moviz
Oh yes we know of the Bossa Nova here too... after all we are quite close to all the Latin countries (just came back from Spain, see the pic). I was dancing with my Mom's sisters to rhumba, tango and Bossa when I was a nipper in the 40's, so I'm pretty familiar with those rhythms. Very pleased that you liked this and yes I'll try to keep on singing as long as I can, though time is creeping up on me now, Thanks for the nice comment, regards M

This has a special north american feel. Pop, Ballad Bossa. Nice combination. I could see fitting an old Blue Eyes performance. Thanks for sharing, enjoyed.

the listen John, glad you liked it, cheers M
