Description:
This one was inspired by the night my son and I sat out in the driveway back in February watching the lunar eclipse (Yep, I work that fast...). I started it that night, I think, but could never quite get it the way I wanted (as usual...) and it drifted to the back burner. Then Feter's call for songs for the family made me think of it and I got it finished. It's not really coffee shop style (unless it's the kind of coffee shop with a grand piano in the corner) but I hope it's in the spirit. Thanks, Feter, for the nudge. Unashamedly sentimental, and straight ahead - hope you like it. Peace.
P.S. The photo of the eclipse is from here: http//en.wiki/...
I took a picture, but it sucked.

Again your vocals just shine on this... the guitar clean and true.
Wonderful lyrics... The soundbed comes in perfectly and cleanly yet doesn't cover your vocals at all.
This is as I've come to expect from you, simply top notch!
David have you ever thought of selling your stuff on iTunes? It would sell my friend! It would sell... You post it, they will buy it!
Thanks so much for sharing!
dajama
Your kind words are so encouraging. Glad you liked this one, and delighted you think people would like it enough to pay for it! Interesting point about the music not swamping the vocals; it's one of those tracks where the vocal fades away a bit at the end of lines, and I was concerned that it would disappear completely! Glad you think it didn't! I really enjoyed your latest, and I'm very happy you enjoyed this. Cheers, my friend. Peace.
lengold
song David with impeccable performance and production. I'm with Mark here, very professional sounding.

Dave, this really hooked me when the "band" kicked in. Chord progressions are excellent. Loved that subtle piano and that ripping solo.
This has to be one of your best.
Dig it.
Dave
dajama
Thanks, Dave. I'm happy you liked it. Glad you picked up on the piano; that was all pen tool, and took quite a while fiddling around to get it to sound okay, so I'm glad it worked for you! Just been listening to your latest, by the way - very cool! I'll be by to comment shortly. Thanks for checking this out, man. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.
Feter

dajama
Thanks, man. I'm delighted to hear the stage is big enough for the band! And thank you again for encouraging me to finish this. Who knows how long it would have languished otherwise. THe "Our House" idea is great, and now I have a little more time over the next few days, I'll be checking all the songs out. Thanks as ever for your encouraging words. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

Really nice. I love the chorus as it really puts the listener in the moment. More for the ipod! Thanks
dajama
Thanks so much for stopping by and checking this out. I'm really glad you liked. I'm glad the chorus put you in the moment; the whole song grew from a moment and I really wanted to get some of the feeling of that across in the song. Thanks for listening. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

I'm really glad that I stopped by and listened. This song is a gem, especially when the story is known.
Excellent my friend.

man this is such a quality tune. everything is exactly what the listener expects to hear but done in a memorable and distinct way - honest lyrics, strong vocals, and terrific composition (i love the bumps and hollows in the song). you're a modern Gordon Lightfoot. i'll be listening to this on the way home tonight, traveling under the stars. thanks!
dajama
I'm flattered by the Gordon comparison, and delighted you enjoyed this one. Thanks for the nod on the lyrics; they are honest, and direct (which is not always true of my lyrics) and I think that what this song called for. Glad you think it worked. Very cool to think you'll be listening under the stars, where the song was born! Thanks for stopping by and checking this out and commenting. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.
Diviner
and so well composed. Lovely track and I am so glad its UNSHAMEDLY sentimental, thats what has made the track sound so special. Great track Dave, very impressed.
dajama
I'm glad the sentiment of the song came through. I think when you're writing something like this, there can be a concern that it'll be cloying, but then you just have to write it as you see it! Glad you think it worked. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.
Moviz
one of, if not THE, best songs and performances you've done. Really confident and excellent performance in all respects. Love the song, your vocals and the bed you laid it on, great song, regards M
dajama

This is such a great song and stellar performance and production. I'm glad Feter gave you a nudge. You are a much faster worker than I am lol I have been working on some of mine for almost 20 years lol. Great post David totally worth a D/L

Really glad you liked it. I know what you mean about working on songs for years. I hate giving up on songs just in case there's something worthwhile there, even it's seems impossible to get it right! Thanks for checking this out, and thank you for your nice words. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.
guitapick
...a fine, fine piece. Kudos to you...

Glad you liked it. Thanks for stopping by and listening. I always appreciate your encouragement. Cheers, man. Peace.

I wish.. I hope my stuff comes across as well as yours.
The sound that stands out to me is the texture of the voice.
I love the strings...simple bass is very smart in my book.
Solo is melodic...
Great production.....Nice all around
dajama
I'm very glad you liked it. I've just been listening to your latest and it come across very well to my ears! You've got a nice song there. Thanks for listening to this one and taking the time to comment. Glad you liked the bass - I'm not a bass player so I really have to go by trial and error to find something that works. Happy you think this one worked out okay. I really appreciate your stopping by. Cheers. Peace.

nothing eclipses here.
full moon fever in all departments. very nicely done David.
dajama
Glad you liked it. I've just realized that I've included "Moon" references in a couple of other songs, too, as well as "stars" and "the sun" - an astronomical theme making itself apparent! Thanks for checking this out. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

This is some song my friend. I thought that from the first, but then when you brought in the band I said YES, YES YES.
What a great song, and you vocal is perfect. Love the mix and the production values you used putting the backup together. And then the lead comes out of nowhere. Great.
Love it, this is going to the iPod David, thanks for sharing and the DL
Be well and be cool,
Ed
dajama
I'm seriously flattered by your nice words. Glad you liked the other instruments - I toyed with having it all acoustic, and then I thought about doing it with full instrumentation all the way through; this was the compromise, and I'm glad you think it worked. As always, I'm delighted to be on the iPod - high praise indeed! Cheers, my friend. Much appreciated. Peace.

WHo is singing back up? What a heartfelt song you cant help but like it! I think the way you sing it has a strong unique quality. LOve the piano hits thrown in here and there. NOw this is a great song! downloaded thanks!
dajama
I'm really glad you like this. The backup is all me all the time, just waiting 'til noone's home and aiming for the top of my range (it doesn't take long to get there!). Thanks for checking this out. I'm always delighted when you enjoy something I do. Cheers. Peace.
thetiler
like how you come in with the drums, then of course the synth adds even more drama. Like those lush strings cool guitar lead as well.
LIke the drama of this especially when the synth strings continue!
Thanks for sharing and nice singin as well !
dajama
I'm really glad you enjoyed this. The synths were a late addition and I'm glad you like them. Using the pen tool and GB's sounds, I worry about things sounding "plastic". I was relatively happy with this, though. Thanks again for stopping by. Much appreciated. I loved your latest, by the way! Made me smile. Cheers. Peace.
tokai
the red moon, i saw it in India once what a beautiful sight. Fitting tribute to the red moon
dajama
Yeah, it's a pretty amazing sight, and makes you pause and look up for a second, which can't be a bad thing. Thanks for stopping by and checking this out. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.
SJB
Another star performance David. I like how it builds with the keys and strings form the strumed acoustic begining.
The electric lead sounds nice and thick - is this achieved using delay?
All the best
Steve

Thanks for stopping by and checking this one out, and sorry it's taken me so long to respond! Glad you enjoyed this one; it definitely has a buildup, and my fear was that people would get bored before the whole "band" kicked in! Very happy you think it worked. As for the lead - a little tremolo and a whole bunch of echo and reverb! Thanks for stopping by and checking this out. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.
Lennon714
I'm glad Feter pushed you to finish/post it. The genuine sentiments of the lyrics are something your son will cherish for years to come.
dajama
I sure hope so. As the song says, these things come and go in the blink of an eye, and I wanted to set this down somehow and some way so it we could look back on it and maybe remember the vibe, and not just see the photograph! Glad you liked it; thanks a lot for stopping by to check it out. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond! Cheers. Peace.

Thanks, man. I love your comment - stream of consciousness listening! Glad you enjoyed this one. It's very straight ahead, certainly not even approaching the inventiveness of your stuff, but I'm glad it sounded good to you. Thanks a million for stopping by and checking this out. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.
LunaTrick
I like the building instrumentation... and the octave voices. Tasty melodic guitar solo too!
dajama
Glad you liked it. I was going to add mored instrumentation at the beginning, but I resisted; I'm glad I did because I think it works like this. Thanks for checking it out. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.
The Infinites
...without being slushy. Top drawer production. Your vocal clarity is sooo great! The high harmony - is that you? If so, well done, D!
A song for all seasons, I could hear this anytime throughout the year and it would make a great backdrop to whenever I was chilling out.
Guitar & piano combine well for a wholesome rounded song.
Great work.

I'm listening right now to the newer version of Johnny Nothin' - what a great song. And it flatters me that the creative mind behind that enjoyed this! Glad you think the sentimentality didn't get too much. Yep, that's me on the high vocal - I think I ruptured something in the process, but, hey, what are you gonna do?! Thanks for checking this out. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.
jamorama
Really does capture the moment of a blood moon. I hear it a little slower, maybe 84bpm, just for a softer lilting delivery and more featuring of your voice and the words.
Fine work!
dajama
I really appreciate your stopping by to check this out. I was intrigued by your comment about the speed. I immediately grabbed the guitar and started singing the song at a slower speed, and I think you may have something! Thanks for that very perceptive input. I may have to revisit this one! Thanks again. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

drums kick in and the singing really has a nice pop rock feel to it. Like the the way the lyrics weave their magic. LIke the synth and piano adds and of course all the rest.
Love the way it has a nice commercial pop feel. Enjoy the feel of love that is so universal here. Quite striking.
Again terrific style here.
Thanks for getting that "hit" feel to this. Brings back those precious musician hit dreams feeling, especially with those knock out words.
dajama
Thanks, man. I'm really glad you liked it, and I'm especially happy the universality came through. Otherwise, it could have been a bit tedious to listen to, I think. Delighted that you think it sounds like a hit! that's put a smile on my face. Thanks again. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

my life just got better.

What a cool comment, and how flattering. Thanks for checking this out and for making my day! Cheers. Peace.

in the overall treasure trove of what you offer forth in this piece it was the lyrics that got me. A resonant message that strikes me to the core.
Brilliant song David. Thanks for letting us share in it.

I'm glad this one resonated with you. Musically, there are a few things I'd like to change about this one, but the lyrics pretty much say what I want to say here. Thanks again for stopping by and checking this out. Cheers. Peace.
Char
wonderful tone and expressiveness in your vocal. Lyrics are very special. Glad I finally found this. Beautiful song. Thanks.
dajama
I'm really glad you found this one, too! Thank you for your kinds words on the vocal. It's a song with a special meaning for me, and I'm happy that came across. Cheers, Char. Peace.

good production, great vocals and excellent musicianship is what makes this song a gem. How could I have missed this one!
