Description
OK, I've fiddled around a little more, and I think I'm finished. I actually think this is the best non-loop piece I've done to date. I've learnt a lot on this one.

For those of you who are interested, the pic that goes with this piece is one I took of York Minster on Halloween. Pitch-black night, but not a cloud in the sky. You should have seen the stars! Pity my camera isn't strong enough to pick them up.

You can hear the first mix of this here: http://www.macjams.com/song/47367

yes!!!
Now to me...its more fun without loops. Im glad you learned a lot.
Its simple and clean with a great melody. I do wonder though if you could add a courtyard or an old castle feel in the mastering.. Just an idea.. Good job!!

Welcome to the loopless world :)
Very nice composition here... you have some pretty harmonies and little counter-themes in this. However, at 1:50, I think one of your horn players passed out from that super-long held low note :) This has simplicity and elegance going for it. I like it. I'm excited to see you writing stuff like this, Averil!

Very sweet!
I think you've got a very natural feel to the instruments. You can almost hear the hesitant breath of the solo player... Well done!

Also I AM interested in the Minster. Before I even started to play the music I sat and tried to figure out which one it was, but in the dark surroundings it was not easy. I've been to York a couple of times but it was before the fire. English cathedrals were my goal on a couple of Interrail trips I made in my youth. It was the cheapest entertainment I could think of, and they sure are some awsome buildings. I actually saw 30 cathedrals/equiv. in a month (much thanks to London with four in a day ;-)

Stay well!

Nice
You have some moments of very nicely done counterpoint here. I'm glad to hear that you are doing pieces with your own melodies and harmonies. Not that loops aren't ok, just that you can express more individual ideas this way.

Very pretty

.. and authentically medieval. My only suggestion would be add some light ambient wash reverb- on the master track .. some environment to place your ensemble in. The lack of any is most noticeable at the too abrupt stops at 1:28/2:52.

minstrel
I love the instrument choices on this - there's great range in tone and texture. The composition is beautiful, not too cluttered, lots of room to breathe and yet still has lots of movement, carrying the piece forward. I agree with musichead - I would try out some reverb settings to make this really feel like it was performed in a great hall. Great job on this and thanks for sharing it with us!
