Description:
This is a remix of michael2's original that you can find by clicking here: Waltz of Time. Michael asked me to add some banjo to his song to replace the choral voices he had in there, and then he sent me the Logic file to make it easier to record my part, and gave me the okay to remix it. I got my banjo recorded, but I kept the choral voices, changing them to pump organ, and I changed the drum kit to an EZ Drummer kit. Then I got inspired to use the new violin bass I got at a yard sale for 5 dollars to record a new bass track that was a little more simple than the jazzy walking bass Michael had originally. The final thing I did was change the pizzicato cello part to kalimba. It's quite a nice song , very nice melodically, so I spent a lot of time just tweaking little things in the track automation and effects. It's the second song I've worked on with Michael, and his voice is so oddly pleasant to my ear that I could just listen to it constantly in a loop by itself, but I was glad I could add something to this song too. Great fun, and I hope you all like it.

Lyrics:
i try hard just to be a good parent
my child deserves all my best
i can bathe her and feed her and love her
and give her the best that I have

ooh ooh ooh ooh
it's time to let it go
ooh ooh ooh ooh
it's time to let it go

and my father he worked all his life
he slaved every day for his kids
yet my mother was never quite family
she felt like a childhood friend

ooh ooh ooh ooh
it's time to let it go
ooh ooh ooh ooh
it's time to let it go

ooh ooh ooh ooh
it's time to let it go
ooh ooh ooh ooh
it's time to let it go
ooh ooh ooh ooh
it's time to let it go
ooh ooh ooh ooh
it's time to let it go

this is genius, love all of your additions. the kalimba is a great touch. it's so wild, that this is more of what I had in mind when I wrote the song, but it just kind of evolved into the original version that i posted. i am blown away by this, thank you so much for getting involved, I will treasure this version.

banjo
A great tune by michael and your additions are fabulous. They kind of help the waltziness of the tune bridge the gap between folk and pop/rock. The kalimba/marimba is awesome and great banjo. Very cool work here Jim.

pretty to beautiful
i agree with everyone - the additions are fantastic. I love the banjo - it adds a sufjan stevens feel to the tune - same for the pump organ. this was a pretty song to begin with and now it's full blown beautiful...

Very nice
I really liked the original. And I really like this one, too.

and my father he worked all his life
he slaved every day for his kids
yet my mother was never quite family
she felt like a childhood friend

M2 really lays it out there. Very revealing, isn't it.

Banjo did this justice.

the vocal style really adds to the feeling of pain and has a very gritty folky sound with a hint of beatles. nice song

This is great
This reminds me of "Badly Drawn Boy" I love the waltz feel with the banjo. Your voice is perfect for this one. Very nice job. Thanks

Yes
In the original posted version, I said something about how what's left unsaid in the lyrics seemed palpable, like an unfinished thought, which I didn't think was a bad thing. I liked the mystery.

Somehow though, in this mix, or maybe just because I've had time to absorb the song, the thought seems complete now. Or maybe it just needed to have that banjo instead of the angel chorus.

This was a very special song to begin with, so I am more than impressed with your treatment of it, delicate enough not to interfere with the original, but change enough to improve upon it.
