Description:
I've always wished autumn would stretch beyond the short few weeks of colors changing from vibrant greens to golds, oranges, reds and browns.
There is a hike that I take every week in autumn, and the landscape changes so much from week to week that it is both breathtaking--and a bit sad. To see the leaves burst into gorgeous hues, only to drop to the ground and fade in so relatively brief a span...
The particular day this photograph (which accompanies the song as art) was taken, most of the leaves had changed and fallen, except for the aspens. As they, too, succumbed to the inevitable loss of their golden crowns, I noticed that, instead of a burst of gold overhead, now the trail was paved with gold--and these beautiful golden leaves, once so loftily set in the skies, created another marvel of beauty to be appreciated and enjoyed....if I only stopped to look.
As gold at my feet....
The sustain pedal for my MAudio keystation is broken, but oh well.. I still have to make music despite it. That explains some of the choppiness of the piano.

This is WIde open heart my friend ...what a deep and
gorgeous poem you wrote here with these notes sung by
the oboe and the strings ...stepped by the piano !!!
what a master piece is this ? ...this is the feel of
nature ..the float over the wind ..just so touched
thank you so very much for sharing this gem !!!!
Mystified
...when I first envisioned this piece, I had a more upbeat, major-keyed song in mind.
But this is what came of the improvisation, so I went with it...
Thanks for commenting.

Thank you--and thank you.

as these autumn leaves are. Open and lavish and wonderful. Late afternoon. Ahhh.... headphones on and wow.
Mystified
I love the sound of the Fitch cello--there is so much richness and texture to it, just like the colors of autumn.
Thanks again for taking time to comment...

at making music, as it is for the leaves to pave the trail in gold Cat.
What so impresses me about you, Cat is that you see beauty in everything, and can translate that vision into music.
Wonderful, even with the broken sustain pedal. Thanks for sharing you Golf with us Cat.
Be well and be cool,
Ed

...well, I try. Sometimes better than others...
I do know that when it struck me how the leaves were still golden upon the trail, it created a moment where there could be nothing more beautiful than the gold scattered everywhere I walked. And I couldn't lament the loss of the leaves, above.
I'll go walking there again this weekend, and I'm sure I'll find something lovely or poignant, or both, as I journey.
Thanks so much for your comments here.

Mysti, this is gorgeous. The oboe and cello - incredibly warm and full sounding. Fall always makes me sad...but not in a sad way, you know? More....wistful. So much emotion in this piece - perfectly wistful for this season. Thank you for sharing another beautiful song. And I truly love how much nature inspires you and your music making. I feel as if I get to accompany you on each hike you take through your songs and pictures and stories. It's wonderful. Thank you.
Mystified
It's true...about autumn and wistfulness and nature.
When I sit down and improvise, I don't know where this music comes from, but I'm glad it 'appears.'
Thank you so much for listening, and for sharing your thoughts on this composition here.

contemplative and serene for the season, I was waiting for your voice but am going back again just to let the piano speak to me.

I actually can hear a line of the lyrics "gold at my feet" in this...but who knows....?
For now, I'll let it be what it is.
Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it!

Love the drones in the strings here - and how you begin with a longing reed. Very impressionistic - and lovely!
Mystified
...for the kind words. Impressionistic? I'd not thought of that, but that's cool :)
And it does fit...
Thanks, again.

A lovely piece of work.... Just so beautiful, as you always do your music... Peace

So beautiful, and so sad - a lament for the dying season. And yet with a touch of hope, for the new dawning day, and the birth of the new cycle. I'm sorry, music like this gets me waxing lyrical.... stunning work, as always, mysti.

nobody would have known any different.
this is a lovely piece, Cat!

There is always a gentle pull on the breeze this time of year, drawing your gaze back over the year past, thoughtful, and not wishing to look forward to the bleak Winter ahead. Your music conveys this very clearly. Great choice of melody, harmony, and instrumentation to paint a picture of Fall.

true the colors are nice to see. unfortunately the world goes gray for the next 5 or 6 months. I'm already getting antsy for summer to return.
