Description:
Three of us, Andy Thompson, R.C. Brown, and I, got together one day to exchange data on our Macs. R.C. had a drum track and a rhythm guitar part and play us his tune and we decided to have a little jam session.
Andy and I came up with the phrasing/lyrics (Lyrics were mostly Andy's). I do the background singing and the "I Wanna' Be This Way" chorus, extra guitars and that bluesy riff. R.C. does that U2-ish rhythm guitar and he also is responsible for the drums. We all made a nice, balanced 33.3333% contribution. (The keyboard thing at the intro is a loop.) R.C. and I did the mix.
This one has also been collecting dust on my hard drive, so I thought I might post it. I think it's kind of a neat tune.
Hope you like it.

.. of styles is great. I could nit, but won't as the sum of the parts is more important .. I really loved the funky guitar that comes in near the end ... left me wanting a return to the chorus.
Well done all round.
lavalamp
That's what this is about. Learning from others. Is there anything wrong with the lead vocals? Or, is one instrument overwhelming?
Let me know.
Thanks,
Dave

I noticed were: some plosives on the lead vocals on "b"s in particular, suggesting no pop-shield. Lead vox I would have brought up a smidge in the mix anyway .. and actually then they would be more in line with level to me of the repeated refrain, which sounded slightly flat in spots to be honest. Ending a little abrupt perhaps (and perhaps a repeated chorus with a standard fade-out on it style might fit the song).
lavalamp
Thanks for the criticism. We need it, don't we. It was recorded with the wrong mics if I recall.
You have a great ear.

well balanced mix and cool instrumentation. Hats off to all involved.

I've been doing quite a bit of collabing lately, or posting collabs. I think I'll get back to some more musical masturbation in the future.
Thanks Bud,
Dave

love the way the verses roll along and that dreamy chorus. guitar sounds great too. kind of a different song for you. I'm getting a little bit of a Peter Gabriel vibe
lavalamp
Remember, I'm only responsible for a third of this song. The guy who came up with the foundation is really into King's X.
Glad you dug it, Ridd.

done well. Not forced or awkward. I really like the guitar work near the end.
lavalamp
Departure is right. It's not generally my kind of music, but it was fun to work on. My part, the chorus and the bluesy guitar, do sound like me, though.
Thanks a bunch for listening.

Cool tune Dave. Sounds like you guys had fun doing this together, which is always the most important part. I love the chorus. Instrumentation and drums are great. I really like all the background vox going on, the panning and in and out of them is great. Really kept me engaged in the song. Cool stuff!
lavalamp
Sure was fun to do. Too bad we didn't do any more with Andy, the singer. I really like his gritty voice.
Glad you liked it.

What a nifty collab - sounds like a well rehearsed band to me .
Cheers,

The main singer is a 25 year old youngster from down under Melbourne. You guys sure love to party.

keyboard sound, great drum beat, vocals are awesome.Great song!
lavalamp
Glad you dug this. Just 3 guys having some fun really.
NB Change your Bio to, "I've been playing", instead of "I been playing....". As an English teacher, I find it disturbing. LOL
Stay cool,
Dave

Enjoyable song. You can't beat a good jam session. The result of this one works a treat and is nicely balanced and integrated.
lavalamp
Rehearsal with an Australian is like having an rehearsal with an Australian.
Thanks Rebsie,

this rocked.
Reminded me of one of my favorite periods of music. It has a real feel of late 80's early 90's indie music to it... It's like an awesome blend of Happy Mondays, Primal Scream and The Charlatans.
Great chilled out happy vibe...
lavalamp
Music needs to get better and I think it gets better here at MacJams.
Thanks,
Dave

i wanna be this way too. great track, you guys work really well together. funny the things that you run across on hard drives. i wouldn't even know what type of music to call this, excellent. really cool chorus too.
lavalamp
...you put a Prog Rocker with two grungy rockers. Controlled Chaotic Rock. That's what I call it.
Thanks M2
I love "Waltz of Time".

and I miss it sometimes. There's a lot to be said for writing stuff spur of the moment (although the result rarely sounds this tight!), lots of real energy that can't be faked.....
Beautiful, unassuming, solid job.
lavalamp
I miss the days of jamming. That was pretty fun if I recall correctly.
Glad you enjoyed.

I second what Karen said - if this is just gathering dust on your hard drive! Very cool track. I like the balance of instruments, and the singing is great. This has a great hook, and some lovely vocal touches. An excellent collab. Do more! Nicely done. Peace.
lavalamp
Sorry, I didn't see this earlier. I always appreciate comments and kind words.

Stone Roses again?
I love this modern hippy vibe. Mantra-esque E-dropping, trippy vibe with a hint of Happy Mondays too.
Bloody good IMO!
