Description:
Mostly folk rock with an attempt at some Kevin Shields-ish stuff in the middle.
I'm not too sure about this one, originally supposed to be just acoustic guitar, couldn't resist piling on the rest.
Kind of sloppy but deemed passable by me. :)
Any input welcomed, please criticize as harshly as you want!

Lyrics:
its a good moon, its a good moonits never done a bad thing
its never done anything at all
its a good rain, its a good rain
its a cold night, but its alright if you're sitting close to me
and everything's quiet, its OK
the dark chased all the daylight away
and its so quiet, but we can both laugh, cuz you know how it is,
one goddam thing after another
its a good moon

This is great. I really enjoyed listening to this track I think this song has lot of potential. There were few instances in the song I felt the guitar track goes a little off beat. But overall I believe you have done a very nice job.
Relic67
glad you liked,
i was definitely thinking about re-recording the acoustic guitar track for the reason you mentioned... I got lazy though. Maybe I'll repost it with a better guitar track.
stevel
really enjoyed this a lot....it reminds me of Big Star's third album. Great guitar work and gritty melodicism
Cheers

I love Big Star... thanks for listening!

Sort of Tom Petty regarding the singing and the feel. Some mixing issues, though. Sometimes the acoustic is off, but I see you have realized that.
Liked it, man.

I did rush this one a little bit.
In future I'm thinking about redoing the initial tracks I lay down for the basic skeletal structure of the song. I read an interview with Slash where he talked about doing that!
Feter
what an intersting work my friend ..I think this is
your best so far ..the guitars with the moody vocal
work .the balance of the bass and drums toward your
vocal that was just rigth mood for a good moon rockin
thnx alot for sharin ..!!!!
Relic67
Thanks for listening Feter, heartening to know I might be making some progress!
Since you were one of the first people to listen and comment on my tunes, I appreciate your support, it makes me want to keep going with it!

hey man i missed this - but stumbled on it now. very cool. i like the looseness alot. don't like the break - just not the right break for this song (imo). nothing at all wrong with a straight forward folk rock thing, especially when you have great introspective lyrics (super good line - we can both laugh, cuz you know how it is, one goddamn thing after another), nice lazy strumming, and a great indie voice - just the right mix of earnestness and irony. like the backups too. your pop stuff definitely channels slacker rockstars like Dino Jr. and Superchunk, high praise by my standards...
Relic67
thanks for the listen and your usual thoughtful commentary.
know what you mean about the middle section... will consider it an at least partially failed experiment! I was reading somewhere that Unity + Variety and the tension between the two is at the heart of a good song, I probably didn't heed the first dictum sufficiently.
the next song idea I have in my head has a more radical change from one section to the next... it may turn out bad but I think I'll try it out anyway LOL!
Thanx again for the comments, from what I've heard and read from you, I trust your judgement.
The Infinites
I like how you are so laid back that you appear forget to keep up at times, it could do with tightening up in places, however, not too much, as if this was over polished you would lose the cool tones. Great lyrics; you have a really listenable voice.
i like.

thanks for the listen and comments.
I'm getting some good ideas for fixing this one up a bit.
I'm deciding as I write this, I'm going to rerecord the acoustic and change the middle section to be less stupid-sounding...

and I have no problems with loose arrangements - really them actually. The Shields thing in the middle could go a little deeper for my taste so the phasing gets washier and less distinct - maybe dial in a ton of reverb and add some pink noise to soften it. Excellent lyrics and vocals.
Relic67
thanks for the comments bud.
I think I'm going to lose the phasing altogether... I really wonder now why I thought that was a good idea ha ha!!!!
Moses
that needs some tuning up. I completely understand being too lazy to fix all the little nits in a song, that is my least favorite part of writing music. I have never really "finished" a song before. Anyway, I don't know why but I like songs about moons! I enjoyed this track, thanks for sharing.
Relic67
I was in too much of a hurry to post this one, for sure. I like the song OK, but the performance part just plain sucks.
I worked a bit on fixing it today. (rerecorded acoustic guit. track).
I'm going to put a whole new middle section in, and do the drum track over as well.
I hope to have a better version up by 2009!
Moses
I like the melody a lot. If you got a nice crisp full acoustic guitar sound, corrected some of the timing issues, and tweaked the mix a bit, this would be a great song. And I mean that. It's a nice, soothing song and I could see myself setting this to 'repeat one' for a while, perhaps before a nap.

A good song with lots of musical layers. My wife likes your name too by the way!
Relic67
glad you liked, I may repost this one to correct some of the deficiencies.
When I was a kid, I wished my parents had named me something other than "Relic67", but I'm getting used to it now!
DeathArrow
hehe it reminded me of a song of panic at the disco from the new album =D
soooo great i love it !!
nice guitar playing !!
cheers, luke
Relic67
thanks deatharrow... damn I need to fix the mistakes in this song before anyone else listens to it... oh well!
DeathArrow
i didn't recognize any mistakes...hah hah funny =D
Dj French Toast
Dont change this song up at all . It sounds great gritty and organic. I love the off setting guitar and an almost secondary care for the music . The jam in the middle is nice and raw as well . On a second listen now . I like it man as is .Your voice is awesome sounds real good. French toast stamp of bad ass ! Great song !
Relic67
The lazy part of me thanks you!
Glad you liked it.

... Man! you really have a voice like a young Matthew Sweet. Your vocal on this is awesome. I have to agree with Tempie - the break sticks out a little like a sore thumb. Loving the acoustic phrasing but I would re-record and get it spot on, it can distract a little. The layered guitar work is great.
Top lyrics and a great vibe.
Relic67
glad you liked.
part of me wants to just move on, part of me wants to go back and fix the probs.
wish I had more time for music.
OK, I just decided to re-record this, after I do my next one!

Thank you for this post. I thought about B. Springfield tunes as the possible inspiration for his structure. You really nailed that vibe it seems and took the measured solos on those records a step or two further. That's some great production as well. My hat is off!

Relic67
thanks much, I would like to go back and change a couple of things as mentioned above.
Buffalo Springfield you're referring to? great band!
