Description:
One of the reasons that I haven't been around much at MJ lately is that I've been playing with some other guys in a kind of "rock and blues and dancin' shoes" band on the weekends. I'm playing mainly guitar and singing on occasion - everyone sings, so there's lots of variety.
As a result of playing in this context, I've been writing a few more simple, rocky numbers. "100 Days" is one of them - short and sweet at 3:14, and using "normal" chords.
This is meant to be a fun song, so ........... have fun :) Dancing around the room is optional, but please remember that you may have 'phones on!
I've enabled voting in the spirit of the post about votes and such a few weeks ago.
Nice to be back.

Lyrics:
100 Days© 2008 Neil Porter
I’ve got a voice just right
For the silent movies
I’ve got a face that’s perfect for
My very own radio show
I’ve been trying to deal with
Some internal weather
I’ve been trying to figure
Someplace to go
Why’d I wanna go and try and do that for?
Spent a lifetime working
I’m not going back for more
I just don’t know what crossed my mind
I let the partially sighted lead the totally blind
I did 100 days
I’m not going back for more
Why’d I wanna go and try and do that for?
Spent a lifetime working
I’m not going back for more
I just don’t know what crossed my mind
I let the partially sighted lead the totally blind
I did 100 days
I’m not going back for more
Sitting round waiting
For the phone to ring
My eyes tear up
When I’m watching that TV news
It’s not easy dealing with
Internal weather
I’ve been trying to figure out
How to read the clues
Why’d I wanna go and try and do that for?
Spent a lifetime working
I’m not going back for more
I just don’t know what crossed my mind
I let the partially sighted lead the totally blind
I did 100 days
I’m not going back for more

Thanks for the listen and comment Tim - the other thing I have in my left index finger is a pain from getting zapped trying to change a power fuse in my amp while it was plugged in. Who said you get wiser as you get older :)
You are doing some really interesting stuff lately.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

just wonderfull ...what a solid bass ..and that tele ..
dont I love it ...thnx alot for the rockin time ...!!!!

"I let the partially sighted lead the totally blind". I love that line. Actually the entire lyric content is great.
I also like the lighthearted pop feeling of the song, and the autobiographical touch - I think the story here is a bright take on a dark story, but that's just speculation on my part. Also standing out for me is the voicing of the rhythm guitar and the bass line.
I believe I really enjoy everything about this song. Nice going, Neil. Great to hear you're out playing, having a good time.

Lively and brilliantly performed, this has a real toe-tapping quality. True to your prediction, the phones did hinder my dancing a tad, but I did shuffle around in my seat a lot! Love the bass, solid percussion (Is that a tambourine?) and clever lyrics ("internal weather" - love it!) Very cool. Wish I could see the band! Nicely done. Peace.

tune here I immediately thought Creedance Clearwater, but it is your style all along and more to spare and it a good way.
Thanks for sharing, lots of dancin fun!
Vic Holman
sure is a bouncy little number.
seems a little of the Coop has rubbed off on you Neil. Or maybe it's your new band...... well someone's rubbing someone the right way! lol
I really enjoyed those spurts from the tele, great bends.

...but like your other songs, there seems to more to it.
I especially love the first verse. :D
Yes, something i want to dance to! It's wonderful both musically and lyrically.
I rate it fabulosa. I don't feel qualified to technical ratings, so i don't. But i at least want to tell you that much.

what a chorus, damn those harmonies are sooooo cute and good. i really like this tune, could definitely hear the Dead doing this one, but those harmonies are out of their league. this is going to be stuck in my head for weeks.

That internal weather will probably change with the seasons... No need to try figure it out... Somethings never change;)
You play your guitar with confidence. Very cool melody/song with a catchy groove made for making my feet move to the rhythm.
I dig it:)

Nice poppy, rock tune. In the vein of Dylan/ The Band when they rock it out. Very well written song.
Were you going for that sound on the bass? (very 60's)
Very nice tune, Neil. You really brought it.

Love the simple Rock sound. Make me wanna get up and dance, or at the very least, sing along with it.
Great production on this one too my friend. Totally cool lyrics, "I'm not going back for more" I hear ya man, I hear ya.
Be well and be cool my friend.

nicely done

If the reason you haven't been here much is because you're playing your songs out there live - so much the better! I like the lyrics, I like your understated delivery, I like the instrumentals. I like it!

Rockpile! Hooked in all the way thru - great guitar / bass. Nice changes; smart lyrics well delivered.
Outro is spot on. Really liked this.

song Neil - knockout lyrics. Superb playing and production.

I could have done with the vocals up a little but it's a minor nit.
Excellent lyrics and performance.

nice bass stuff/ you really are a strong sound bass player/ impressive
this tune just drives on from the get go
sometimes i think when you use 'normal' chords, there is great movement to the song
George Harrison was great for this

It is a fun song, for sure. I can't resist the feeling there may even be a tad of RT influence as well (bits of the prose & esp. the 'twangy' guitar).... As someone said above, nice change-ups too

I'm really enjoying the continued evolution of the less-doubled Neil Porter sound...And REALLY enjoying the emergence of Neil the Lead Guitarist...
And did we mention the better and better drum programming and the good-as-it's-always-been bass playing?
Wonder what this song's about, though... Just can't fathom it... It's subtle...
Heh, heh...

Okay what a heck... It's always nice to come back for more as I always have liked your music as mixing skills.. BTW nice to hear you've been out and jamming... Did I say thanks for the DL'd.
Take care

and fantastic that you're playing out. Started doing the same myself. Love this tune 0 reminds me a bit of Nick Lowe and Rockpile. Excellent vocals and of course the bass rocks.

I've got a voice just right for the silent movies. That's great!
Jeez man, you can play some geeter! So, I gather you are playing all the instruments? That's fantastic!
And yes, I got all tangled up in my 'phone chord. Thanks!
Very nice! Thanks for the new download!

I simply haven't been able to get around to thank people individually for leaving a comment and listening to 100 Days. Suffice to say that I always appreciate it when people take the time to listen to my songs - if they also leave a comment, I'm even more thrilled.
Its been through taking on board what other MJers have said about my songs that I've been able to make progress in my writing, recording, singing and playing. That's why I appreciate your visits every time.
Thank You!!!!!

Love to hear this one live. Rolls right along, like a rock song should.
Thanks

I CALL LAST... I love the casual way you turn a strong phrase... and your opening line sets the stage perfectly.. and draws the listener in immediately.. everything else is what we've come to expect from our friend down under... you've set a high bar for yourself... so I'd suggest that you learn to limbo....
happy for you... you're gigging live
time to shut up

...that's what you are, Neil! In the first two days that I've had the good pleasure of experiencing your being, you have made my heart smile wide. This little ditty didn't need any sort of directions to have someone know how to respond to it. Everything is on auto response. It's fun and seemingly light, but there's a certain sense of sophistication that comes through in what you do and I end up feeling smarter for having been exposed to it.
Great listen! Can't wait to hear what else I've missed from you.
Cheers, Mr Sir! Dion

A great rocker Neil full of your trade mark musicianship and lyrics. Your bass playing finally got me to take the plunge and get a bass - I've had enough of midi bass lines farting away in the background (slight problem in that I now need to learn to play it)!
Cheers
Steve
