Ever since I bought my new ST55 condenser mic, I've been looking for more opportunities to record with the instrument with which I first learned to speak - cello. I heard Drak's beautiful and melancoly piece, Ember, when I first came to Macjams - and thought, what a superb cello piece that would make. Tonight, I took a couple of hours to play along with it tonight, finally settling on an approach that I thought suitable to the mood. I recorded 2 cello tracks and would you believe... my C string (the big one) snapped during the 29th measure of the first track. The spirit of the piece urged me to play on regardless and I finished the track without any major de-tuning of the the remaining strings. You can hear the string break and the slight buzzing of the broken string, acting as a sympathetic throughout the rest of the piece. Anyone who plays cello knows this is a $50+ string and my heart sank. My first inclination was to remove the track... but then decided to leave it in the spirit of divine providence. I know that lots of versions have been done of this track... but perhaps this is the first of its kind. I humbly submit it in honour of one of the most endearing characters I have come across on Macjams... someone who is always ready to listen, encourage, advise, and respond... the incomparable Eduard (AKA Drakonis). Enjoy!

oh man, listen to that....god I'm melting. incredible daniel. i'm sending all of my pieces to you for some live cello from now on. I love the improvised feel. just incredible tone and texture from the cello. so glad you left the snapped string sound in there. and the picture is perfectly fitting for the mood you've created here. I've always loved drak's Ember and you've certainly done something mysterious and melancholy with it. Very cool. Well done!
