Description:
The title comes from the hour of the day/evening. I REALLY wanted to call this "It Must Have Been Something I Ate!" CAUTION: This even scares ME!!! (This is what I do when no one is listening. And you thought you had me pegged...) Now I'm waiting for the bombs to drop.

My absolute fave from you so far. It's bold... it's daring... it accosts... it pillages... it finds madcap delight in the smallest idioms...
And just when I thought you were going to lapse into familiar tonality ... you veer from it like a sordid old lover...
Bravo Paul... the piano is percussive... lithe.... gymnastic... this is truly brilliant stuff! Bravo!

wow...wow...wow...brilliant...wow...

So I had to come back later when I could speak again, but I made the mistake(?) of pushing play again when I got here and now I'm speechless again. sigh...Paul, this is truly brilliant work. Is this improvised? Good grief man, do your fingers really move that fast? I just love this. I normally don't like this stuff, but wow, I love this. It's incredible - such a diverse collection of texture and sound, movement and tones. Just awesome. A journey through a, um, very interesting mind!

I've had to move my jaw from the keyboard to type this :-)
I don't even know where to start except to say thanks for the download. This is bound for the iPod.
Cheers

This is exceptional, both musically and technically. Thank you.

Heehee, this is nimble and creative, as well as genius. It reminds me of a crazy dream that makes sense.

This piece was another slight departure from your baseline pieces. The content was much more adventurous but you executed the music in your precise and practised way.
I enjoy these excursions from the norm as I think that you do too. They can only add to both technique and style, pushing the boundaries of what is accepted as a person's musical forte.
I await more, in any style or form, of your works.
Take care.

You're going to end up really famous and people who listened to your stuff early on at MacJams are going to get quoted in your biographies. That's how I see it.
And people will wonder, 'How did he produce this music so quickly, so prolifically, and so well, and why wasn't he doing movie soundtracks or filling classical recital halls?'
I don't even particularly LIKE this kind of music, except now I LOVE this kind of music...
I think I have to call NPR or something...

and glad i found it. you freak me out sometimes, just incredible musicianship (including that elusive trait known as infallible taste). such awesome chords and harmonies. i'm really blown away by this one. do you practice like 12 hours a day?
mackellar
did you do that?! Incredible performance! OMG! WOW! WOW! WOW!

Well done. You are now qualified to play piano in one of the "Classic Rock" groups from the '70s. Your touch is still lighter and more fluid than theirs, but you definitely have the rhythms they were so fond of mastered in this piece. You might find them a little bombastic but the piano players I am referring to are: Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman and the keyboard player for Renaissance (a lesser known group but closer to real Classical music).
Thanks

One hardly used M-audio Keystation 61... (sigh) It has seen very little use, only played by a mediocre self taught musician wanna-be. Guaranteed to please as the keys have not seen much action... He only knows three chords after all!
(sigh)... Paul this is more than brilliant and to echo what Shay said... "Do your fingers really move that fast!?" Holy crap! I couldn't even do this with the pencil none the less have even a prayer of playing it.
Different... Er... ya... How about spectacular!
Excellent Paul... Amazing... And yes I'm scared!

Like everyone else here, I'm floored- flabergasted -amazed - stunned, etc. This walks that fine and very artistically satisfying line of having the very best of the romantic style with the very best of 20th century. Tonal, yet surprising. Rhythmic, but irregular. Just a pleasure to listen to - at least twice :)

really like to know if you improvised this.(I suspect yes.)You have an incredible musical imagination! This has humor, interesting rhythm and harmony and superb dynamics. You playing is very inspiring. Thanks so much for pointing me toward this!

This is definitely "right up my alley" in terms of musical taste. I agree with everything that's already been said, and one more thing I love about this is that its so incredibly dynamic.
I've never been a big fan of acoustic piano (maybe this is a virtual one, but I digress!), but played by someone like yourself, any doubts I have about it are certainly well and truly squashed in this instance.
I make a special point of NOT giving 10s in ratings, but this is one that really pushes me to find a nit to pick - though I noticed there is a speck of dust on the Eb4.
10, 10, 10, 10!
Bravo maestro!!

It's about time Paul. This is great. Nice to hear you cutting loose - stepping out - and still maintaining your virtuosic control over your instrument. Whatever it was you ate - eat more. Excellent!

Excellent Adventure. :)
Given your *preferred* title, I was expecting some measure of musical regurgitation. Unh-uh... didn't happen.
A surprising, inventive roller coaster ride with some daring flying turns on the keys.
Quite a departure, indeed and anything BUT safe on arrival. ;)

I thought I had already listened/commented on this Paul. I don't usually like this style of music, but in your hands it's a masterpiece.
God bless,

Echoes here of "Solfeggietto" and Debussy's "Doctor Gradus Ad Parnassum" but in a pleasingly twisted vein. Paul, your vocabulary is so broad and varied. No wonder you have put out three CDs in such a short time. Sounds like the ideas just won't stop coming, even if you wanted them to stop. You're one of those people, it seems, who MUST create -- you can't fight the urge, or the muse. And we listeners are the better for it.
Beautifully recorded and performed. I am assuming this is S. Ivory, right? What a wonderful tool that software is.
Thanks, Paul.

You've got to be kidding...
Fantastic, Paul...Prokofiev meets Rachmaninoff meets some totally off the wall Off Broadway production...
Fantastic, Paul...

Most excellent. Love the free play and especially the way you go beyond your normal comfort zone and explore, very effectively, the New. Very enjoyable.

I don't know enough about the piano or classical music to say anything intelligent, but the creative and technical prowess you possess is pretty incredible.

I am so impressed by the variations in pace, tone, rhythm, melodies, and styles and how they each provide their own facet to this work and act as supporting pillars in creating a magical whole. It is wondrous and reveals all these little delights in each listen (now on #3). The skill to keep all this going reminds me of the 12 fingered pianist in the movie Gattica. Thanks for letting me know about this one. I will be enjoying this on my iTunes now - with many thanks, and a tip of the hat....
