Description:
A song about pain. Vocals by Curtis Downey, All guitars & bass by David Patterson. Drums by DOD. Curtis's wife was going through a difficult time when this was written. I'm sure many have the same feelings from time to time.
A MacJams member asked me to post this as my first song. A little bit mellow. A little bit Country. A little bit Rock. A little bit Pop. Not sure how to define it.

Lyrics:
As I sit here by myself inside my my room I think about the things that I'm suppose to do
I wonder how it all began inside my head
There are times that I wished I was dead
What made me ....
This crazy
Why does it have to be this way
If I could only have the time
to make it all go away
I used to be the one who lived for tomorrow
Now it seems I only hide within my sorrow
Whatever happened to the way I used to feel
When I was loved, I knew that it was real
What made me ....
This crazy
Why does it have to be this way
If I could only have the time
to make it all go away
Now it seems I try so hard
Whatever I do, I can't make it all go away
What made me ....
This crazy
Why does it have to be this way
If I could only have the time
I'd make it all go away
Make it all go away
Make it all go away

Wow, what a great tune. Had a country feel to me. Very well put together, this sounds radio-ready to me! Love your voice, the vocals are fantastic. Great guitars and drums. Just a very tight tune, well written, good lyrics. What a wonderful first offering - welcome to MacJams!

This has professional sound to it. Ok, you have the waves plugs and clearly know what to do with them. For the rest, tasteful guitar work, good vocals, and in general a good mix and arrangement. Top stuff.
Studioplayer
Thanks Victor, Mixing is a constant learning curve. Lots at our disposal to use these days from Waves to Ozone. It's all good. Whatever gets you there. Thanks for listening. Appreciate it.

Bass, guitars and vocals sound excellent. Not so impressed by the drums you've chosen - have you added extra compression to the DoD loops? They're usually more natural sounding than this, and they seem to interfere with other instrumentation to me.
That's a relatively minor nit. I love the sound of your voice, and your Tele sounds fantastic here. Very nice tune, and a generally pro level production.
Cheers from Oz,

Hey Neil, Good ears. Yeah.. the whole mix has been treated some. DOD's generally sound good on their own. During the final mix & master they probably got some compression on them (and other things). I don't use loops too often but in this case I was kinda diggin' the beat but now you have me curious has to how the song would sound with a real drummer. Just might have to revamp this. LOL Thanks a lot bud!! More work!!
Seriously that's what I like to hear. It really helps to have extra ears. You get so wrapped up into the mix you lose sight. And sometimes you lose that original energy. It's really easy to over do it with compression etc. I'm trying to keep a rule of less is more and just get a good recording from the start. Shouldn't need much in the mix then.
Thanks, Dave

If you have the luxury of using a live drummer on a remix, I think it would definitely be worth the trouble.
Cheers,
Neil

"beautifully sorrowful" I like that. I'll take that as good. Thanks Guy. I'll get around to your music.

agree with kassia this is a great new country song. As good as anything
out there. Very well done.

Great sounds....
May I suggest that some more repetition of the go away theme, perhaps with a melodic leap or two, might take things up yet another notch, and that the intro isn't quite special enough (sorry, I'm a picky sod)
Are you any relation to Ed?
Damn good production
Studioplayer
Thanks for listening guys. Rover, nothing wrong with being picky. It's good to hear other peoples 'real' opinions. Thanks man. I'm pretty happy with it. I don't think I'd want to do anything different. Doesn't really need to go up another notch since it's supposed to be kinda melancholy. Same thing with the intro. :-)

nice dynamics. I like your guitar playing and the production is pretty slick. I'm not one to care about production as much as gut feeling, but this tune has a good mix of both.

... I believe i was the MJer who asked you to post this as your first post ... I think it's GREAT ... I listened to it about 10 times that night while we were chatting .... I just noticed you were posting in the forums and remembered the conversation and checked to see if you had posted some of your stuff ... glad I stopped by .... I really like this song ... however, I am not good at giving any constructive critiques as my own mixing skills, etc. are really lacking .... so excuse me if I end up being one of those lame members who say stuff like "great tune" ... hahaha Looking forward to hearing more of your stuff !
