Description:
funny how the relationships that hurt you the most are the ones that hang around, that you find yourself thinking about from time to time, and it occurred to me while thinking along those lines a few weeks ago that the usual irony is that the first person to really get to you is often the first person to really hurt you, hence the line "the first to stay is the first to leave". I thought that sounded like a good line for a song and there you have it. Musically i'm sticking with the usual 50's rock meets supertramp meets post punk thing.
Lyrics:
you were a waitressyou worked at the tastee freeze
aprons and short shorts
ballcaps and varsity knees
you went to state school
you had sorority friends
bought a used honda
drove to the beach on weekends
i get to thinking about you
and the way you used to be
everytime that somebody else
gets up and walks out on me
cause the first to stay is the first to leave
yeah the first to leave
you were a girl scout
you volunteered at the Y
taught swimming lessons
i picked you up on my motorbike
you skipped your classes
to spend the day in the park
truant and happy
sunning on the hoood of your car
i get to thinking about you
and the way you used to be
everytime that somebody new
gets up and walks out on me
cause the first to stay is the first to leave
yeah the first to leave

excellent tune.
man, you've knocking them out fat and furious.
the guitar riffs are so cool.

i've been trying to get all those half finished songs out before december to give myself time to just hang out and play guitar while I have some time off - if i've got things unfinished i'll think about them too much to relax - creativity and obsessive/compulsive complex seem to go hand in hand. Anyway glad you liked the tune! I had fun with the guitar on this one. There are a couple Everly Brothers riffs in there...
lavalamp
...that you aren't Five Extra Arms? Great Vox. Loved it.
Very original tune. Lyrics are cool.

actually the next one is a collab with 5 extra arms - stay tuned...

Great hook to a wonderfully catch, catch, catchy song. Really enjoyed.
Cheers

catchy = tempie success. thanks man!

a wicked cool hybrid genre it is. Theres a very compelling thread when you write. It rocks, its lyrical with tons of passion.

Thanks dude i really like the concept of a tempie "sound"... reminds me of all those old "the sound of xxxxx" albums. Don't think i've got it yet but maybe getting there...a little of this, a little of that. You guys - and this site - have been a big help...

I love the sound on this. The lyrics are great, and I dig the concept behind the words. Lovely vocal - great attitude and swagger. Good mix, and nice balance of instruments. This is a really sweet song. Nicely done. Kudos. Peace.

I was thinking that all those 80's bands i grew up on were cheesey because they lyrics were so stupid - the music was great! I mean, they could all play and sing and they wrote great pop stuff and had great attitude, all that strutting around - the only reason that nobody can mention them today without blushing is because they wrote such incredibly stupid lyrics - so what would happen if you took the music and the attitude but sang about something interesting?

I really like this one.
a lot of your trademarks like cool lyrics (varsity knees!) and interesting interlocking parts. the slightly atonal sounding two note riff behind the "girl scout" section is genius, made me go back and listen about five times!
you added a bit of extra grit to the vocals on this one which worked really well.
a real treasure for macjams.

I learned guitar back in the day by playing New Order riffs, so I have a thing for the atonal. Somebody trying to be mean a few years back wrote that my "one string solos reminded him of ET trying to play guitar with one finger" which first of all is freaking hilarious so kudos to him for that but secondly to me has since then stood for what I do - i LIKE one atonal solos and riffs, there's something about that little bit that sticks in your head long after the song has gone away. So anyway thanks to New Order for that. Very glad you liked it man you're my weather bell for "cool"...

Because if she worked at the Dairy Queen, she'd have "ball caps and a scary spleen". Hard to write a song about a chick using the word "spleen".
Another rocker. I'm blown away by your 50's rock meets Supertramp meets post punk description! It totally makes sense.
I wonder what lavalamp will think when we post our tune?
tempie
it will blow that whole "never in the same place at the same time" theory.
And nah if she'd worked at dairy queen it would have been in gitano jeans. or pink add-a-beads. or something like that.
egobandit
the way you say thinkin excellent! Very cool song the changes and hooks a very cool stays in the head!!!!!!!
thoddi
The song is cool, and those guitar things you do are really smokin'. Think I prefer to have the bass a little louder/punchier and a bit more groovin' with the drums. But this is cool rock'n roll.
bud
it's all there in those two words. Great track and rockin energy. Everything we do is an attempt to recover the feeling of the first time or avoid the first mistake. Well done.

... as the summer comes in to view on this side of the Atlantic my "Best of Tempie" CD will be on the car stereo as I hang out the window gazing at the short shorts....
I don't know how I missed this one, but it sure rocks.
Instant classic - just add Tempie.
tempie
cool dude should have another for the "best of" cd soon. Glad you liked this one. can't wait for summer, looking forward to short shorts too. ready to get the top off the jeep...
