Skeptical Baby

Description
I was playing an open mic night at a coffee shop a few months back. A girl played after me with her only three songs that she had written the week before. The songs were fairly generic and her performance was a bit weak but she had a certain spirit to her. It was a spirit that is related to the ones of all the girls I've ever loved. This song is about the only girl I've ever loved, which is every girl I've ever loved, which is a girl I've made up entirely.

Lyrics
The sun is falling like a hammer
down on the day's insecurity,
building a home for the sleepers.
They're right on time.

The holy ghost is standing right in front of you
leaning between what is right and wrong.
You knew how to sing the appropriate song
But it's not your style, no it's not your style

Hold onto me, skeptical baby
The world opens up when I pull out your teeth
Wander and breathe like the human machine
You were meant to be, you were meant to be

Summer is for sinners and the shooting stars
who left their rightful home for the lonely road.
Make a wish upon the wandering, intelligently
lighting up the night sky...lighting up the night sky.

You were born next to Cancer on a wheel of sticks
that were picked from the nest of a mocking bird.
The word around the town is a nasty one.
You're a dirty girl. You're a dirty girl!

Hold on to me, skeptical baby
The world opens up when I pull out your teeth
Wander and breathe like the human machine
You were meant to be, you were meant to be.

Skeptical baby, you belong to me (x4)

You wouldn't believe me if I told you
the meaning of the world and its stories.
We were born for glorious beginnings,
but we'll never peak and we'll never cease.

You belong to me, skeptical baby.
Your world is a string and I'm wrapped around that thing.
Wander and breathe like the human in me
you were meant to be. You were meant to be.

well, I'm not sure these are the most unforgettable lyrics I've ever read but the guitar is cool and the voice fits well with the rhythm.

Excellent
This is one of the best songs I have heard on MJ for weeks....great guitar work and a really nice feel to the performance. It reminds me a little my fave current band Okkervil River. Nice stuff

Hey - I found a new artist!
New to me that is. Really like this tune and the way you built it up after the first two verses. You've got great voice and a fine way with a lyric. You're surely sick of Bright Eyes comparisons so I won't make one. Hot electric guitar work in there. It's nice hearing a song that works so well without bass and drums - didn't miss em for a minute.

Great track!
Very much a young Dylan sound to your voice. Bottom line is that its a good song, well played and sung. I have some problems with the overwhelming production - for me, it would be nice to have the volume backed off (can't believe I'm typing this!) so that the dynamics had more of an impact. You have a really good sense of rhythm on the guits, but unlike Bud, I'd probably enjoy a bit of drums and bass in there to drive it even more.
VERY good post!
