Description:
This was written and recorded in my hotel room in Kenya (the vox were done in the TV room), first track I've finished in a long while. Mixed on headphones ... never a good idea!
Read what meaning you'd like into this... reminds me a little of 'Everybody Hurts'.... to me,it's about being away, missing my girl.
I'm gonna move to my house on tuesday, so may not be able to reply to comments for a week or so (depends how soon I can get internet connection)

Lyrics:
When all the song birds fly away from youWhen all the days show you the same view
Give in to love (x6)
When the night is sealed and panicking
When you count your breaths, you fragile thing.
You may be sunkissed and alone
Your feeling trapped between timezones.
Let it fall away
All the chances fall away
When all the walls you raise won't make a home
And all your plans won't raise skin and bone.
Give in to Love (x6)
Don't let the sunlight get away from you

Love it.
I can never figure how you can comment without being online.... do you have a worm hole??
I bought them in the black Friday sale yesterday
How the devil are you Steve and are you living in Kenya for good now?

.. sweet, heartfelt longing... the distance would do that ;o) .. excellent song Steve .. reminded me a little of "The Scientist" by Coldplay .. but kinda re-voiced on Coldplay-ish guitars. Vocals are excellent .. delivery especially worth a mention .. I also liked the blips etc additions towards the end .. nice little spice and clever way to work an ending too.
Downloaded.
echoroom
Yeah, sorta know what you mean Alan. There was loads of hiss on the vox so there's lots of denoiser and and de-esser. I wanted to have a low, plain vocal all the way through.... but lost my nerve towards the end!
I finally worked out ichat btw!

Another cracker Steve....
Off to listen to this again.
Great mix, BTW.
echoroom
.. thanks for checking this out. I see you're far from home too!

Great to hear you awesome voice again. The mix sounds rich and pure.
I hear the Cold Play thing too, apb mentioned.

thanks for checking in ... really love the work you and Bob have been doing - hope to hear more soon

very cool Steve.
has a fresh feel and sound for you.
i like that kind of false start intro and that detuned piano. how did you get that?
all in all great production and good to hear a new tune. your break did wonders.
echoroom
I thought ya was a robot. Actually, been listening to a lot of pop music (girls aloud, Britney... seriously) and nicking sound/ mixing ideas from this.
The piano is a just a Logic sample with loads of effects, put through a guitaramp to get the gritty sorta sound.
Thanks roboboy!
Henke
Good to hear from you again, missed you around, but I understand you've been away. Far away! That's OK if it results in music like this. Really cool, and your voice is stunning as always. Thanks!

Really enjoyed your latest groove too!
kassia
Love your voice, great to hear it again. Great tune - awesome lyrics. i really enjoyed the percussion in this and, like alan said, the blips and stuff throughout really added some cool texture to the piece. Cool song - good luck on the move.

All is right with the universe again.

Wow, Steve, this is your most moving song right next to Breathing Water. They are both obviously emotional songs and you do such lovely things with the emotional interpretation. There's that moment on BW when you sing, "born, never asked," that always raises goosebumps and you sing "love" at 3:15 and 3:16 and it has the same effect on me.
Awesome arrangement, beautiful, beautiful lyrics. The only suggestion I'd make is to look at where you start the fade, maybe doing it a little earlier, or getting rid of it completely.
I can't tell you how happy I am that you're back. I'm very sad to think of you and Rachel being apart, though.
ledebutant
Should have been 3:05 and 3:16
echoroom
Great to hear from you again... one day we'll finish April 13th. I usually dont like fades but this kinda suited it I thought. The more i listen to this, the more i realise where the lyric came from. Hope all is okay with you... and thanks for checking me out (er, as it were!)
ledebutant
I keep thinking I should send you that April 13th Logic file to play with. Lemme know what you think.
3 wks 2 days, you and me will have our first christmas together with Marv.
Absolutely loved it baby. Such a beautiful vocal. You are so cool.
Life and my world is not the same without you here.
echoroom
... not long to go now... give marv a big kiss from me!

First of all, anyone else notice a convergence of personalities here? Lenny is you and you are Lenny. Bravo for the reconciliation.
Second. Love the bongos, a nod to the new African home? Also the deep multi choir harmonies. The mix done on the headphones is spot on. Listening on my Mackie HR824's and it sounds GREAT! Especially the vocal levels which you sometimes have a tendency to amp up a little too much (as most vocalist/mixers---as well as-- guitar player/mixers have a tendency to do). Very well done.
Like the restraint at the end. The instrumentation pulling out to reveal a wonderfully naked vocal and bongo solo. One nit, I would pull out the synth blip-blip at the end, it doesn't seem to fit IMHO, but that's just me.
Miss ya dude,
Philip
echoroom
. i ramp the vocals up??? It's to drown out your guitar!!!! Thanks buddy - seal of mixing aproval from you, and I can rest i peace.
Now about that hi energy disco song... what is going on with you???
steve

this sounds fantastic... Great song with a higher theme... Love is all we have and need to be... :)

This is just superb - wonderful song and amazing production and mix. Obviously fantastic vocals. Great drums too.

PS: Off to buy some Beats headphones - they are obviously extremely good.

I think the sound is great, especially given the limitations of your recording situation. Mix sounds fine, and I don't think it suffers for having been mixed on phones (says the guy who always mixes on phones...) The best thing about this song for me is being able to hear your terrific vocal again. I'd almost forgotten what a great vocal you have. I think the song is good, plaintive and kind of melancholy, but suffused with optimism and light. Very cool. A great return. Hope to hear a lot more from you in the near future. Kudos, my friend. Peace.
P.S. Cool new avatar.
echoroom
Thanks dave - I think the rest did me good... and thanks, i was gettin' kinda sick of the ol' multi-coloured avatar - Bob and his mate Justin did this for me!

Maybe better than ever.
Another great song and treat for all of us who are lucky to catch it.

Hey it's great to hear from you!
Someday I'd like to hear the story behind you being in Kenya but for now this song is a great reappearance of THE Echoroom.
Maybe it's just me but your surroundings appear to have influenced your music...I can hear that "world" influenced music vibe...if that makes sense?
You did great with limited resources (blowing us lowly novices away as usual).
Take care,
Tobin
echoroom
Nice to finally catch up on your new work too - fine stuff budy!
steve

Welcome back Steve -
I'm gonna disagree with Philip - I love the synth wibble at the end (but then that's the kind of thing I'd put into a track!).
The thing that strikes me here is how good Logic is compared to GB. Having spent a year recording stuff in various hotels around the world I can't imagine getting anything like the sound you've got here out of GB - that and the fact the *you* know what you're doing, of course :-))
Anyway, great to have a new song. We've missed you!
Phil
echoroom
... is what Logic costs now - a bargain. And you get all the jam acks. put it on top of your Xmas list.
Oh, and i have no idea what i'm doing - it's ALL trial and error (mainly error)
s
musicmitigation
Wow, this is exceptional. Nice vocals!
MarkHolbrook
personally I won't change a thing... I love the hiss and pops etc... They make the song sound almost live!
Very cool. I wish I could record like this in the hotel room on trips... That would make those damn long trips bearable.
echoroom

your voice sounds as awesome as always, and this is just a great song. almost gospel like quality to it. real nice touch when everything drops out but that synth note and the drums. so much to like here, the instrumentation, subject matter. really great track Steve. so happy to see you around again.
echoroom
Mike, you've been eaten by a beach ball.
magnatone
Steve - this is FABULOUS! So GREAT to hear from new music from you again! You've been missed, and this was well worth the wait. Your voice - sigh - i just LOVE it!
echoroom
Nice of you to remember me! Steve
five_extra_arms
Man, it is so good to hear your voice again. I know we keep in touch but nothing like another echoroom song to satify the ears and the iPod.
It's funny that so many of your last tunes were clabs with others playing the music (for the most part) and this one is all you and some logic samples? You are so talented Lenny.... er, Steve.... If I ever need a tamborinist, you're that guy! Really!!
Love the song buddy and I miss ya like we were neighbors. Yeah, your lawn looks awful. Be safe and tip the movers. You're too fragile to be lifting heavy laptops and such.

Even though we're miles apart (sounds like a song lyric), it's been harder for some reason keeping in contact in Kenya. Will try harder - honest!

so nice to hear something outside the box that isn't noise. Very creative and original. Really draws me in.

Cheers bud - thanks for stopping by!

Excellent song and beautifully performed.
Here's me surrounded by guitars and enough technology to launch a space shuttle and you do this in a hotel room....
I give up :-)
Cheers

... there is no cable porn in kenya, so nothing else to do ...

sigh. so beautiful.
I LOVE that intro, so machine-like, but broken up like humans.
Woo-ee. The way you sing "when all the walls you raise won't make a home....won't raise skin and bone." I know how much you truly miss her. I hope you get to see Rachel again soon.
other favorite lines:
"when you count your breaths, you fragile thing." "you may be sunkissed and alone."
you're a poet, my friend if you didn't already know...
Oh p.s. what's with the number in the title? why not write out the word?
echoroom
Actually the '2' was a Prince thing - no idea why.
We really should collab on lyrics some day, girly!
steve
thoddi
I like your lyrics. Give in to love - good advice:)
Very cool sounding groove, and your singing is very good.
Very cool when you let the drums enter and you hold back everything for a while.
Willywagga
hmmph, this is friggin confident and excellent and all the usual superlatives and then it's very good though I'm not fully convinced about that skippy beat thing early on when the drums kick in, sounds distracting, jarring or sumit. Great to hear ya, thin white prince.
echoroom
Skippy, like the bushed kangaroo? It's for the kids , man! Great to hear from you - hope all is well, and that you'll post something soon!
steve
bud
what a fine song - your voice sounds fantastic - realize now what's been missing around here. Nice touches throughout - like the bongos and the false start.
tempie
great line! and a great tune! It's simple but obv you know what you are up to since the composition bobs along on all these cool and subtle changes. love the backups also...
echoroom
Hey guys - thanks to you all for the comments - my african broadband is going down (another power cut!) but will try and reply and listen at the weekend!
steve

Glad to hear your sounds again...as pro and heartfelt as always..
echoroom
Great to hear from you again, finger picker!
blaky smith
I'm late, but so glad to discover this song. It's so great to hear you again Steve, with always your very nice singing.
Really an excellent song, thanks...
Marc
echoroom
Just caught your latest and am bowled over - bravo Marc!
Ed Hannifin
"This is as good as it gets", I feel sure that I'd have to revise that the next time you post a song...
But it's an awfully good song in which an awfully good set of neo-post-Bono-Bowie vocals brings all its goodness forward...
There's so much to love in the vocal, lyric and melody department that it would be easy to miss the great little bits of guitar strummng and guitar picking, the steady bass, and heck, there's even a bit of tambourine in there that's catching my ear...Right, and a mix that may have been done on headphones, but, since I'm LISTENING on headphones, sounds perfect...
Ed
echoroom
... then post a track like Progulation and reduce my confidence to smithereens!
You bugger.
jiguma
Good to see you back Steve. Lovely song (sounds great on phones - one of the benefits of mixing in phones of course). What a cool performance - a Bowie feel for me. Love the wibbly synth.
Outstanding post, and a most enjoyable listen.
Cheers from Oz.

you are the mix master, Neil

Jeeze; that was sick good. I absolutely love it. Everything in it is beyond fantastic, and I mean everything dude. NICE!!
Elevator_Funk
Pop savvy. Musical. Artsy. Good vocals. I usually shy away from tunes with vocals but this one is very good. Well written, etc. Excellent!
scaustrita
I like the warm vocals . . .
ktb
on everything. Your voice sounds really soulful, the backing voices incredible. The music mesmerizing. Loved the little glassine synth's towards the end. Nice production/mix
yrp
:-)
You headphone mixing is light ears better than my monitor mixing.
So, it was a very good idea.
Excellent!

Love it!
