Description:
I was lucky enough that "Cigarette Man" caught the attention of AndyBM. He took it upon himself to grace us with his drumming talents, and all of us who worked on this collaboration (apb, musichead, and myself) were thrilled.
Some of you may have caught this track on Andy's page, before he decided it best to take it down and have it posted on my site. I am honored to post it here. So, thanks Andy.
I believe a remix will be in the works, thanks to apb ;)

Lyrics:
Cigarette Man, I want to kiss youbefore I quit again
Mr. Insomnia, I stayed up all night
just to be with you
Jesus Christ, I was nice to you;
be nice to me too
I was yours to keep
if you dared
I was yours to keep
Whether you laugh or cry is not up to me, boy.
Do what you need to do
Whether you live or die is out of my hands -
now I understand,
I don't know and I can't guess
I understand I love you no less
Cigarette Man, my clothes still smell like you
smell like last night's smoke
Cigarette Man...I breathe you in
I can't breathe you out...

for the credit, Estellie. It was my pleasure. Great tune, and I'm glad to get to work on it. I can't wait to here what APB has in store for it too!

I downloaded this song and reposted it on my sight after working on it. Although I did credit everyone involved in the project, and everyone wanted me to keep it up, I decided to take it down so Estellie could post it.(I'm new here and didn't know how to send it to her!)
I appreciate everyone supporting on my work on the song, and I was really glad to do it.
I hope Estellie has no hard feelings, because I had to be persistent with her to let me take it down and have her post it!

No probs, my friend. Will be listening to your future posts! See you in chat...

feelins all around ye solid bass and drums ..this song ..More more more !!!!!

Feter! You are too much. This is from my early songwriting days, and it's just about making the difficult decision to let go of another person and letting him/her live his/her own life. It is difficult in the sense that so much love has been given, but it is the right and only thing to do.
Inspired by personal events and personal emotions.
Glad you enjoyed!

great collab folks. Just flows with a wonderful sense of warmth. Your voice sounds terrific Estella. The backing tracks are outstanding.
estellie
It's so good to see you around. I was listening to our collab the other day. You did such a wonderful thing for that song. Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad you liked it.
lavalamp
Great words. Awesome instrumentation boys. You have such a unique vox ans style. Backgrounds were nice, too. But, the song just sort of ended. It could have faded, maybe.

We'll consider that for the remix.
Now, of course I wrote it! It was one of my early songs, from back in the day. It has been through many renditions, including one band session in my hometown that was never recorded...
I'm glad you liked the lyrics.
echoroom
Great track and a wonderful collab... lotta talent around this one... my clothes still smell like you is such a great line... especially as i"ve started smoking again!

This song does not condone Echoroom's behavior...(LOL).
Please be well.
I trust you are reunited with Rachel now? :)

vocals and very nice production. I really like the guitar parts.
Very nice.
estellie
Alan was such an angel to do the guitars for the song. I'm glad you liked it!

this song. I liked the chorus a lot. In fact I liked pretty much the whole song, but the end was too sudden! I think it needed some sustained vocals or guitar or something that fades naturally. Thanks for sharing this.
estellie
I'm glad you liked the song. And seeing that you are the second person to mention that the ending seems sudden, I am now really thinking about that ending!
Thanks!
Moses
the only other thing that was disappointing about this track was that I couldn't download it!!!!
damiengh
Simply love it. Love the way it was recorded. Clean and no-nonsense, capturing the crispy ring of guitar strings and the brisk brushy snazzy snare. Also love how it allows your voice's sweetness to sing the song of an evening fantasy. Also tasteful backup.
Hints of a Baez vibrato in your voice.
Nice, nice, nice.

Collab... Your voice is so nice, perfectly adapted to this melody, which remains memorized and I like listening to again and again without ever tiring me. "Cigarette Man" is for me a great tune from your first version Estella and this new post is excellent. Bravo !
mowguy3
and a fine tune. You guys work well togeather. I will sure look for more in the future. Good stuff!!!
Be well, Russ

...this just *sounds* so good - the first guitar chord sucks you into a great bright and breezy pop song.
Overall it's a good production job - however - on my headphones I am getting a serious phasing going on in the chorus's - the arpeggio guitars seem to be really battling with each other and almost cancelling each other out. I love what's intended in these sections but I think it needs to be re-visited and smoothed out.
Right, onto the vocal, which is great. I've just left a short note on the original song saying I prefer the vocal on that track - BUT - having listened to this version twice back to back I think I'm going to have to change my mind!!!! You rally do have some soul in your voice which I love and there's a smoky richness to your phrasing throughout this - truly great stuff.
As others have said, the ending is way toooo abrupt - this needs a long fade out or an 'everyone-together-lets-finish-in-time-tambourine-rattle' kind of ending.
Looking forward to the re-mix, but congratulations all round to a fine song -

What I mean is that despite the (GREAT) lyrics, I have a feeling you've made an instant fan of me the first tie out. This is the first time I've clicked on you (pardon me for that. At least I washed my hands first). I am so happy to find this song, and your talent as a singer and writer.
I didn't hear the prior version (yet). But your talent is obvious. And the lyrics are so easy to relate to. Unfortunately, because I want to hear you sing to me, it kind of forces me to imagine I'm the cig-man. What a slob.

I was just the bass player

don't knock it!

...can't tell you how this tune pulls at me...something about it...just the right sound(s) and performance...well done, people!
estellie
I'm glad it pulls you in...
Andy really made it come together.
lengold
sounds like the perfect song to me.

I have to say, I hear all my imperfections, but I'm glad they are not reaching your ears...
I'm happy you like it so much.

Did you write these lyrics? I am astounded. I would love to teach this song to my band. Would you mind? We're not a band-for-hire, we just play at our friend's parties, etc. I will always give you songwriting credit with a great big shout-out!
This is such a great song. Thanks for sharing!
estellie
I certainly did write the lyrics! What you say is overwhelmingly flattering. Thanks for your message. I have sent you a note regarding your request...
I was just the drummer!
//Andy
estellie
Drummers are the backbone!
The truth is that the song is a good one. The lyrics are very interesting, the vocal melody is infectious (makes you want to keep humming it after the song plays), and the guitar/bass arrangement is clear, bright and has a nice groove.
If I didn't hear all these things in the song before I added the drums, I wouldn't have gotten involved with it. The drums are just defining the groove that was already in the song.
Nice job to all involved.
PrototypeEightyOne
beautiful voice, thoughtful lyrics. 2 pop-ish for me but cool collab and im loving the sound of those drums.
estellie
I can understand that. Thanks for the listen anyway, and I'm glad you could appreciate it just the same.
jiguma
A really good tune and terrific performances - especially your vocals.
Excellent collab!

I'm glad you liked it!
I just LOVED "Throw your shoes"! Great writing. It's a funny anthem. We laugh to keep from crying. At least he's on his last few weeks. I heard someone on CNN say his trip to Iraq was like his victory lap without the victory...
jiguma
"his victory lap without the victory..." PERFECT!

Estella, I am such a fan of your music. I love your poetry and your voice is really quite beautiful. When you sing something, I really believe it. You sing from the heart.
estellie
Thank you Rachel!
I'm being a little easier on myself, not trying to reach any goal, but just letting myself be creative when I want to instead. And I'm finding inspiration everywhere.
