Description:
Gimme back my Mojo
In the beginning of October I uploaded an instrumental track called
"Where's all the Funk" and made it clear it was open to
collaboration. I posted the song here on MJ and also on iComp.
Soon after posting the song farfor44 (Gene) on iComp asked about
doing some lyrics for it
Gene said the first time he heard it he loved it, so of course I said yes.
As luck would have it, Mick & Nora Reeves came to visit
Gene for a couple days in October as well... Of course Mick & Gene
ended up in the studio and began writing this song to my music, and didn't
leave the studio until the lyrics were written..
I want to thank both Gene & Mick for working together on this song and
coming up with these fantastic lyrics for it, and turning my funky groove
into a real song. I also want to say a special thanks to Gene for the excellent
vocals and harmonies he did, and the mix he put together.
We hope everyone enjoys the fruits of our labor

Gimme back my Mojo
by farfor44 & Mick Reeves & sloparts
When I was a young boy there was nothing I wouldn't do
I met this older woman who taught me a thing or two
She hung me out to dry and she put me on the rack
She took away my mojo and she will not give it back
Gimme back my mojo,I need it right away
Ooooo something is missing Ooo I feel empty inside
I called my local law enforcement they said that I should sue
So I went to see my lawyer and I met this old gumshoe
He looked at me with eyes of green,he said tell what Im gonna do
Gimme 2000 green backs, and I'll get it back for you
Ooo something is missing,Oooo I feel empty inside
Not one word from the private eye and I'm left out in the dark
If things don't take a different turn I'll be sleeping in the park
I lost my job,the rent is due,and the car is in the pound
I don't know what I'm gonna do if my mojo isn't found
Oooo something is missing,Ooo I feel empty inside
Looks like I've lost my mojo and a big chunk of my pride
An older woman and a private eye have taken me for a ride
The moral of the story as far as I can see
Never trust a private eye,and let the older women be..

I've gotta say that Gene and Mick did an excellent job on the lyrics and Gene's vocal and harmonies are to die for. I'm glad you enjoyed our work and took time to send along the kind words my friend.
In answer to your question about the horns, they are loops from the Apple Rhythm Section JamPack

Well really, my part was all done when I posted "Where's all the Funk". Gene and Mick did all the heavy lifting on making a real song out of it when they wrote and then sang the lyrics, and then mixed their work with mine.
But it turned out so good I just had to post it here. Glad you liked the song we built Jack. Thanks for listening and the kind words my friend.
Be well and be cool,
Ed

this turned out GREAT! Love these lyrics, and very infectious beat and vocals - great job!

We really have Gene and Mick to thank for this one. All I did was the music, they made an honest song out if it. Turned out to be a great collab and a great song I think, but then what else would I say about it. ;-)
Thanks for stopping in to listen Karen and for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the song.
Be well and be cool my friend,

get my foot back in the door here... and say killer.. this has tons of authentic attitude... and great musical twists and turns...
a bit wet for this genre... those fantastic Steely Dan grooves are so dry... I'd like to hear this that way once...
but still
sheesh
sloparts
I could do the dry on the back tracks, and if I can get the vox from Gene make a new mix of it. Since I've always been a Steely Dan fan I'd kind like a chance to do that too, but It'll have to wait until I get all the pieces together.
But of one thing there is no doubt, Gene and Mick cooked up a fine set of lyrics and turned this Funky jam into a real song. And Gene's vocal and harmonies are absolutely killer on this.
Anyway, glad to see you back. Thanks again for dropping in for a listen Scott and for the great comments. I always appreciate it when you give me ideas for things I could try to maybe improve the mix.
Take care, be well, and be cool,
Ed

Isn't it amazing what a great set of lyrics and a good singer can do for a song. I am so impressed with Gene's and Mick's work on this one, and very happy with the results.
Thanks again for listening Dick and the great comment. Take care, be well and be cool my friend. And a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours as well.

According to wikipedia,
Mojo (pronounced /ˈmoʊdʒoʊ/) is a term commonly encountered in the African-American folk belief called hoodoo. A mojo is a type of magic charm, often of red flannel cloth and tied with a drawstring, containing botanical, zoological, and/or mineral curios, petition papers, and the like. It is typically worn under clothing.
And there's more to it on the Wikipedia page if you need it, but basically if you lose you Mojo you've lost you good luck charm and thing start going wrong for you. Unfortunately, I've never had my Mojo so my life could never be called charmed.
Anyway, glad you liked the song my friend. I credit Gene (farfor44) and Mick Reeves over on iComp for putting this together. I just did the music for it, they made it into a real song with the lyrics and vocals they put to it.
Thanks for listening Chris, and for the kind words. Merry Christmas my friend,
Ed

Man it's even better now, eh? Amazing how the collab changed the face of this song - it was already good....

No one is more amazed than I am. It just goes to show you why we all make better music when we share ourselves with others and allow them to share with us. The sum is truly greater than the parts. and Gene, Mick, and I proved it in this song.
Thanks again for listening to it Harold and for the great comments on it. We really do appreciate it my friend.
Be well and be cool,

I did the music, but the icing on the cake is the lyrics Gene and Mick did, and Gene's vocals and harmonies. that what turn this Funky Jam into a real song.
Glad you liked it Bob. Thanks again for listening and the kind words my friend.

Glad you like this one my friend. Gene and Mick do a heck of a job on the lyrics and vocals, all I did was the music which was a lot of playing fun for me.
Funny, I didn't remember the Meters until I went and checked them out after you mentioned them. that was one hot Funky band I'll tell ya.
Thanks again Mark for listening and the kind words

It has a real 'tongue in cheek' delivery, and sounds like it was really fun to pull together.

All I can take credit for on this is the music. Gene (farfor44 on iComp) and Mick Reeves (also on iComp) wrote the lyrics together and Gene did the vocals and harmonies.
And yes, it was a lot of fun hearing this one come alive with Gene's vocals and these lyrics.
Thanks for listening my friend, and for the kind words on it, they are appreciated.
Be well and be cool Kristy
