Description:
Just another rock song. Thanks to Sloparts for inspiring pedal steel loops.
Lyrics:
orange - sun - shine
i leased my soul to make the rent
i gave up wondering where the daydream went
but this job still makes me sick
gets easy to abase yourself
keep producing, decorate the shelf
even tho it ain't worth a lick
i'll send a note on an origami airplane
tell the boss that i'm leaving on the next train
score a window seat down at the short line
kick back and feel the orange sunshine
& everything'll be fine in orange sunshine
& you can't say it's not mine, in orange sunshine
i'm feeling orange - sun - shine, woo hoo hoo
in a clean well-lighted place
computer screen irradiates my face
inside i'm far away
friday morning and its work to rule
here's the gal who runs the office pool
she's asking if i paid
she thinks I still care but i don't, i'm numb to all feeling
i spent the morning tossing pencils at the ceiling
anyway tomorrow i'm leaving for the last time
walking out into the orange sunshine

You're giving Beck a run for his money here. I like your words - harmonies are well done.
NIce guitar too. Good summer song in mid-winter. Like it lots.

i really was thinking about the sun as I was writing this one... honest!

Lots of swagger. I'm with Re-al. This is a summer classic teasing us in the dead of winter. Great, great track.
Relic67
glad you liked... I enjoy your music.

I think this sounds like an Elliot Smith type of sound. Overall the song was nice rock tune. I enjoyed the lyrics / guitar / vox. Thx.
Relic67
wimpy voice + double tracking = elliott smith! LOL

love the beginning, this is just a great tune. a blast of summer in the dead of winter. love it. how'd you do the drums (always on a quest for new tips), and love the pedal steel and the harmony leads.
Relic67
the drums are courtesy of "Drums on Demand" ("More 4/4" edition, "Here We Go" song set).
I really like the DOD loops as long as I can find ones that fit the song.
thanks for listening and commenting!
tempie
man, i really like the power pop direction of your recent tunes - i do hear a little beck but more Sloan - cool stonesy attitude in the verse and then a sugary pop chorus- makes for a nice contrast. Love the fact that you write "here's the gal who runs the office pool" !! havn't heard that phrase in a while! And so I was digging this all along but then you throw in the SWEET SWEET pedal steel sound ah man that just kills. This is my favorite relic tune now...until the next tune. Thanks for the (orange) ipod candy!!!
Relic67
glad you liked, I was kind of thinking iggy when I started this one, but I do tend to gravitate towards the major key, poppy sounds... reflective of my predilection for the powerpop I guess...
It's always great to have you stop in for a listen... cheers!
davisamerica

Relic67
thank you sir.

.. so you've got to the tossing pencils at the ceiling stage then? lol
I loved the 2nd and 3rd chorus .. they seemed so much better sung (post pedal steel) .. which really worked .. and seemed to inspire a great vocal delivery just afterwards .. I would have the pedal steel throughout.
To me, overall it had a kinda Sheryl Crow kinda thing going on...in her poppier moments .. but .. with er .. a bloke singing. :o)
Relic67
thanks for checking it out... I thought about more pedal steel, but it was kind of a hassle slicing, dicing, and transposing little snippets of loops together.... maybe I'll get a real pedal steel one of these days... my wife will be thrilled LOL
sloparts
Old time rock and Roll with a little Country attitude. I listened for the Steel and sure enough, it was there. You did an excellent job on the whole song my friend, and especially the most excellent way you integrated the Steel into it. You made it work really well.
Did I mention I also like the theme and lyrics for this one, cause I do. It's kind of a Rock version of the old Johnny Paycheck song, "Take this job and shove it"
One thought to consider, there are a few places in the mix where the lyrics get lost a little into the mix. If it were mine, I'd bring the vox up just a little, It doesn't need much mind you, maybe 1 or 2 db is all. Of course this is coming from the deaf guy with the hearing aid in his ear, so you might want to temper that advice with a good listen and maybe some other peoples thoughts on it too.
Great track Relic, I love it. Thanks for the D/L, it's going on my iPod post haste.
Be well and be cool my friend,
Ed
Relic67
Mr. Paycheck's song was definitely on my mind when I wrote this one...
I am often hesitant to turn up the vocals because I don't like my singing too much, however I will definitely keep your suggestions in mind for the next one.
The pedal steel idea came from listening to one of your songs, so thanks again for that!
abfkingsport
Luv it man. Nice guitar work and excellent lyrics. It has a really good upbeat melody. I'm a fan!

Live off the Sun it's possible. I like Orange Sunshine. Heathy lyrical content, Voice is mellow and in tune. The guitar riffs and solo are rocking.
Relic67

garodaro
The guitars sound cool, and this has a great beat to it. Nice vocals as well. Well done!
Relic67

Calchas
Great stuff Alec...A jumpin' tune!
Orange sunshine, eh? (Double entendre?) Used to eat the stuff like candy back in the day...
Real sunshine is good too though...and a lot safer! Ha ha...
Love the arrangement. The change-ups in the instrumental break are very cool.
Nice vocal delivery as well.
Enjoyed!
Be well!

Such inspired fretted leads, out of this world chord choices, great dual leads and honey-sweet steel guitar entrance at around 1:10. There's something about how you treat your vox that I want to push down in the mix, I can't help it! Does Orange Sunshine at all taste like Sugar Magnolia to you or is that just the green dragons I took with my Kool-Aid? That steel rings out like an American Beauty amid the harder-edged jangle surrounding it. You rock, relic!
Relic67
glad you liked! I wish I had a real pedal steel guitar. I understand they're pretty hard to play though.
I've always liked Jerry Garcia's pedal steel playing, esp. the song "dire wolf" from workingman's dead.
