Description:
Right away I have to say that Bryn is a genius. When I opened the tracks on his 40 second piece of music I was amazed to hear how he had constructed it. Totally outside my box and a real revelation in sound design for me. You can find it here: http://macjams.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=6;showtopic=148576
As a result I found that I wanted to preserve the beauty of what he had done and simply got into rearranging his parts to develop this song structure. I only added one new sound to the piece - which is a sub tone bass thing during the break. Other than that I did a little slicing and dicing, filtering and equalizing, dropping out, etc. Oh - and I reversed his drum track in Audacity and mixed it in here and there. I was tempted to pick up my guitar or set up some keys but I just couldn't.
This is still an open collab as far as I'm concerned. If anyone wants to take it from here they can - but I encourage you to download Bryn's tracks and get the same enjoyment out of the experience I did. Thanks Bryn.

I have a feeling I may revisit this project after a while - the sounds are so enticing.

You did really well with this... you have great impulses in dealing with a given sound sample. I completely agree with your sentiment about Bryn... he's a class act and I've been thrilled to work with him too. You've done such a good job here - it's tempting to work with this version.
bud
I'd love for you to take this a step further. Let me know if you'd like the files.

...made me get up outta my chair and move to shake like it was trynna make money...
Nice groove.
Interesting composition filled with a whole bunch of goodies. (the good interesting...)
Other than that, it was way too short. But then, I was getting to the part where I was gonna be really cutn' up with my moves and so, it's just as well...
Nice work. Thank!, (guy(s)). Dion
bud
some of your moves with a little web clip? C'mon - we love music - but we also like visuals. Thanks for commenting on this collab - I'm just the tweaker.

This is absolutely brilliant
You took it in a direction that I would never have considered and you made it work extremely well. It is a strange feeling hearing how you have mainpulated my original bits and pieces and rearranged them to create this different perspective on this particular tiny musical universe.
Also, that you for your interesting comments on the way I had presented the original files to you. I guess this is how I do a lot of stuff, particularly in the early phases of making a piece...its a real revelation to me that the way I do things is a real revelation to you (if you get what I mean)
:-)
I love this
Thank you for working on it and sharing it here at macjams

You know what happened - I heard elements of Daft Punk and the Pet Shop Boys so I decided to take it into a traditional dance song structure and away from experimental. It's as simple as that. In fact - while I was doing it my daughter asked if it was a new Daft Punk single.
What impressed me about your technique is the same thing that I learned from listening to radiohead splits. It's how very minimal elements that are quite sparse can add up to very rich compositions. I tend to over-play the song on every track and then spend a lot of time subtracting. I sense that you create minimalist cells and then find ways to combine them to create new species.
Again - thanks for the challenge.

..."it sounds like" comments, but...
This reminded me of George Harrison's "Fog Upon L.A." ... It has the floating, mesmerizing feel to it, sort of dreamy and hypnotic. The overall "sound" is contagious.

You're right about that and I'll take it as a compliment but only in part - because it really belongs to Bryn for the tone he set from the beginning.

Mesmerizing....

very nicely done, i think that Bryn is a genius and it's really cool to hear a re-mix of one of his tracks (expeshally by one such as yerself). almost reminds me of Air (who i love). really cool. did you do this is on the skylab? i'm on my way out the door, but will have to listen again more carefully later.
bud
