Description:
This vignette represents a little experiment in incorporating some writing and singing, as well as the creation of a sort of minimalist backdrop behind the words. I figured I'd try my hand at writing some lyrics, and put together this little sketch as an exercise in songwriting.

Lyrics:
Winter turns
You take two stones and you leave them on the windowsill

And all I know
Is the nighttime's rising like a spectre from the shaking ground
And dawn's approach has left me waiting with the wailing of the whippoorwill

Winter burns
The moonlight tripping round the corners of the windowsill

And time may go
And leave us fighting for a bone beneath the autumn ground
At dawn's approach - a matchlight quaking and a reaper at the windowsill.

Hardware:
The usual suspects. All mandolin + some effects.

Software:
Garageband

I wish
I could play a mandolin... there has always been something mystical about that instrument.

Really great stuff, man. Reminds me of Iron&Wine, one of my fave artists. Love your vocals and the distant backgrounds you put in. Great job on the lyrics! And the simple mando accompaniment is perfect. Great job!

cool...
It sounds great as is, but I can imagine this as a round with your vocals and some harmonies overlapping. I think you should keep playing with this one!

well now, that was a nice first shot at lyrics. I'm really into those vague concepts. Nice vocals and a great backdrop for those vocals.

Unique
What a great song, almost deceiving in its simplicity but full of depth, both musically and lyrically. Rare to come across a song with this kind of haunting quality. Still listening to it frequently after downloading it a couple of months ago. Once I put it on I can't stop listening - guess the mandolin 'loop' has something to do with that:)
