I'm not totally sure what this is about - I suspect it will fit a lot of different circumstances though. Maybe it was a movie I watched or a book I read that sparked it??
The chords and lyrics came to me very quickly on this one, and it was recorded within 10 hours of being written - although I've done some polishing on the original recording since. Long term listeners to my music will note that I have used "normal" chords for a change - its a band thing :)
As for genre - the one that would probably fit best might be "country rock", but as that's not available, I chose "Folk-rock". "Acoustic rock" would have been inaccurate as there are no acoustics to be heard.
I hope this one goes down OK - I've grown to like it a lot. Discerning listeners will hear the influence of rtcooper in this one (although he doesn't play on it).
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Lyrics
So Long To Goodbye
© 2008 Neil Porter
Well I should have seen this one coming
Just looked it straight in the eye
You were you, I was me
It just doesn’t pay when you lie
You’ve been crawling
On your knees
Can’t see the wood
For all those trees
You’ve been living all alone
Find somebody, take them home
You can’t always do what you want to
You won’t always get what you need
You can work til you’re dead – it’ll do in
your head
Just look after the times in between
You’ve been crawling
On your knees
Can’t see the wood
For all those trees
You’ve been living all alone
Find somebody, take them home
Small minds, big plans
Don’t need to hear them again
If I stay, you stay, won’t work that way
Its just so long to goodbye

Hi Neil, it's a very cool country-rock you've made here. Guess there are many influences cooking here, but the clearest resemblance I can think of would be Keith Richards from the rolling stones. You even sound like him singing:)
I dig the way you have mixed the drums in here. The reverb has a very near/small room feeling. A cool rehearsal room sound.
A very pleasant and tasty produced and performed little song.
