thanks Bryn (1), love the sound of the lo-fi loop in here (1)
Description:
This is an open collab that Bryn posted a Particledots. Very nice piece of music, he posted 40 seconds of music and the idea was for you to download the files and arrange them as you saw fit. I was chopping and re-arranging quite a bit, but i resisted the urge to load it into a sampler as that would be too easy (maybe i'll do another version). Anything that you hear that wasn't on Bryns original is just something i isolated, chopped and manipulated a bit (mostly his voice actually). Basically experimenting with the sample editor, some plugs i just got and automation. i didn't use any synths at all on this one (although Bryn did). Thanks a bunch for the remix opportunity Bryn and for all the swell songs and advice you've been dishing out.

this is exceptionally COOL Michael! You and Bryn both have some of the most amazing musical minds I've ever had the pleasure to be anywhere near (cyber speaking only). Love how this turned out!

thanks a bunch Karen. actually Bryn gets all the credit, I just put the puzzle together. you should grab the files and have a go at them. It's a handful of AIFs, some really neat things in there. thanks for listening.

Lately I am on a mood for instrumental music and this one really suits my needs.
What is the sweeling sound in the background at around 2:00 which goes on until 2:28?
I really loved that!Itīs a very good remix, Michael.
michael2
that was a fake female vocals track that Bryn made. I just copied it a few times, and then panned the copies and messed with pitch of them; throw on some reverb and you have a sound. thanks so much for listening.
LunaTrick
Nice ambience and textures. I might be having a lash too...
michael2
lunatrick. glad you gave this a listen. i think you should do a version, it would be lovely for sure.
Feter
very spheric ..cool work and arrangment ..!!
michael2
glad you listened and approved.

cool and different. i dig how some of the repeatetive parts work out. kind has the "big boys don't cry" by 10cc feel to it.
nice make-up job, blue boy :-)

this was fun for me to play with. i feel like i learn more doing re-mixes and collabs than by recording my own material. forced to think in a different way i suppose. it is repetitive, i started imaging loops in the old school "delay unit" sense as opposed to the drag n drop garageband way. i just got augustus loop and i think that may be my next experiment, it will repeat forever. thanks for listening Vic.

but whenever I'd go out with my buddies to the bars there was this place in Scottsdale that had tons of plush furniture and cool people music. This is cool people music. I like it, but I'm not hip enough to like it, so I'm kind of breaking some rules.
You and Bryn are on a wavelength. Great sounds by Bryan augmented by your arrangement. Thanks guys!
particledots
I will have to check it out. Is it still there? (BTW I am very far from being one of the cool Scottsdale peoples)
:-)

know, i am not cool either. just another aging indie rock guy who should probably start wearing something besides tennis shoes. funny to think that experimental and ambient musics have developed into cool people music. i don't drink either, coffee is awesome though. so that alone males us both cool and rule breakers. instead of the rock cliche of hung over, jaded and decadent; we're perky, alert and hoping we're raising or kids right.

is Mickey's Hangover... or was. Don't know if it's still there or not. It's right across the street from Martini Ranch. Off Goldwater and something or other. Maybe I'm showing off how uncool I am by thinking that place was cool, but I've come to accept that. There just wasn't any of that regular Scottsdale crowd... which sounds like you also have very little room for.
TG
Heavy softness and slow waves of smooth light...I like that upbeat 1/3 the way into the song and the subtle flute-like sound in the back, instant download
michael2
bryn did all of the hard work here. i just had manipulating things. he is like a mad scientist, always quality stuff coming from him. thanks so much for the listen and the kind words.
kassia
Very soft ambient feel. I loved the choral feel to the vocals, really filled the piece out. Very cool stuff, both of you. Great remix michael!
michael2
i ran the vox through KT granular, and some of them i layered and messed with the pitches of the individual layers. bryns original track actually had a lot of vocal parts, so i cut them apart and played. there is a sound that sounds like feedback, and it is bryn singing. he does great stuff.
Diviner
Cool textures and composition. I am doing a remix as well, I have couple ready and a couple of other ideas as well. I like how you have put this together, well done.
michael2
you are one of the undisputed kings of MJ electronic music, so i cannot wait to hear your take on this. thanks for listening.

Really like this. Laid back, smooth, Ambient, great on the ipod. Thanks for sharing this
All the best
michael2
thanks a bunch for listening. gotta say that bryn was the magic behind this one. i think i could have done anything with those tracks and they would have ended up pretty good. thanks for dropping us onto your ipod.
AcetyleneJukebox
Excellent work on this. Beautiful ambient sound design.
michael2
so much. very kind of you. thanks for the listen and the comment, means a lot.

I know how enticing those tracks are. You did a great job with this - nice isolation and restructure. Like you, I can imagine myself having another go at this - it's just to much fun and Bryn's tracks are so personal and cozy somehow. Excellent collab.
michael2
those tracks are great huh? bryn really does get some cool stuff together. personal and cozy is a really great description. and they all sounded so good too, i didn't even EQ anything. it would really make my like a lot easier if i could get bryn to record all of my songs and then just let me putz around a bit and put my name on it. thanks for checking this out.
particledots
Thank you so much, not only for this remix but also for all the kind words on here...really appreciated
I really like how you have introduced extra space and dimension into this using the original 40 second long snippets...I also love how you have warped the sounds with the effects you have used. It is interesting how you have emphasised different elements that I buried in the original...it kind of reminds me of an aural equivalent of morphing two different photos together to see the same thing from a different perspective.
I would love to hear the version that you might do at some point with the George Harrison like vocal melody...
After I have moved and settled in to my mew place, I think I will return to this myself as well...maybe incorporating elements that people have used in this open collab
Again, thank you...I think this is brilliant

the pleasure was all mine, i really had a lot of fun with this one. I will try and do the one with vox. I don't have any lyrics yet, but that's pretty much par for the course. they usually come when i turn the mic on. i can't wait to hear what you do with this. thanks for giving me the opportunity to play with your sounds, and for the constant source of inspiration you provide.
Henke
Even if you could say it's a bit repitative, there is plenty of things to listen for, so it never gets boring. Big difference ;-)
My brother's old band Datahysteri - just released their first CD of music from the 80's - available on iTunes - I think Bryn might like?! Well, they had a song called Repetition is a form of change (possibly a citation, I'm not sure), but I often think about that. Our senses only work as long as there is change, if there is none the brain does it for you to an extent. That's part why "repetitive" songs can be cool. Pretty cool, huh?
Thanks for sharing, well done both of you!

wonderful! downloaded.

for a moment I flew out of my chair floated around and said good night to all the creatures in the forest. Then the song was over and it just stayed playing inside my mind and all was right with the world! excellent!
HenriROGERsoloandbands
This "bass lefthand piano" line is taking a lot of room in the mix .
It's less interesting as melody or sound than all the others sounds.
Maybe it could come and go :-)
I like all the other sound work you've done with the collab track , the mood and the construction .
craft
Love the space ambient and the beat... Well done

.... Lovely PD soundbed, nice put in the blender. Wish you'd sung on it, though.

maybe it's water, or ice floating down a river, or it's the aurora borealis, i'm quietly watching fog drift out of the woods and spill out onto the road, it's like breathing, it's like slow motion waves
and then it's gone
thanks

Catching up will definitely make this Christmas all the more merrier.

Love the music. Honestly its awesome, I've downloaded a few of your ambient tracks. Though this one sounded really familiar. I was trying to figure it out and if you ever watched Doug on Nickolodean they have a song with the same chord pregression i guess you would say.
Took me forever to find this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGhVgMDYMIg&feature=related the 'calling me calling me' part.
Love this song even more now.
Thank you for the memory, and the beautiful music.
