Description:
This will be my last post of the year. I have a bunch of songs lined up for next year. I promise, no more poorly recorded next year. This will be the last. (at least for a while)
I haven't re-recorded this one, yet. I'm going to do a middle part, another verse and different drums when I do. Any more advice would be much appreciated.
This was recorded in 2004. I think. Or maybe 2003.

Lyrics:
It Was All In A Daydream I HadWhen I was little boy
I think I was about the age of nine
Living in the backwoods, everything was fine
Looking at the sky and waiting for a sign
The only thing I ever saw
was the moon and the sun
and the clouds in my mind
Inside making shapes of another time
Looking ahead, but kept on falling behind
It was all in a daydream I had
Up and away, just beginning a day
I see all the people just moping around
With their heads to the ground
Afraid to make a sound
When I was an older boy
I think I was about the age of ten
I could not think of the right words then
I could be wrong, but I am quite certain
The daydream I had was really the end
It was all in a daydream I had
When I was a little boy
I think I was about the age of nine
Living in the backwoods, everything was fine
Looking at the sky and waiting for a sign
The only thing I ever saw
was the moon and the sun
and the clouds in my mind
Inside making shapes of another time
Looking ahead, but kept on falling behind

This is the best start to a song i've heard in a long time.... And i'm not just talking about macjams!
This is what i like, a big funky groove.
The song itself is very interesting with a strange fun melody which i liked loads.
Cant think of any tips for improvement other than maybe ripping into a monster wah driven solo at some point :)
Cool tune
lavalamp
I like this song, but I wasn't crazy about how we did it. Again, it's first on my list for a re-do. Thanks a lot for your comments.

almost hendrix-like at the beginning. then it turns into a lavalamp song. if you were to re-do this i think i would like to hear the vocals louder and maybe make the intro like a separate song: really play up that funk thing and then drop it entirely once the song kicks in. maybe you could do a little lead thath echoes off over the beginning of the song portion. i really like this (especially the verses). cool track. big plans for the new year? glad to hear it.
lavalamp
The issues you raise are exactly my issues. I didn't have much to do with the recording. The song seems disjointed at times. And the verses are what I like too.
Thanks for the advice. Appreciate it.

Lennon714
The sound of this reminds me of Lennon's work in the early 70's. Something off "Imagine" perhaps. The hi-hat seemed a bit loud, but the volume of the other drums and cymbals worked perfectly fine with me. I really like the melody around the "living in the backwoods..." part. Cool delivery on that line.

...drives me crazy! I don't have the master of this one, that's why I'm going to re-do it totally. I'm going to also write a middle part to it. This was a sneak peak. Hope you'll take a listen to my baby next year.

these lyrics and song Dave. Doesn't actually sound poorly recorded to me. Love the intro/outro.
Cheers

But, Like i said to Lennon, the hi-hat is way too up and the vocals too quiet. Don't have the master, but I think it was go enough to post.
Thanks Len,
Dave

Yeah Dave. This was a great final post for the year. Minus the hats, I don't have any problems with this little ditty. Your stop and go timing in your singing is really interesting. I like when you load up the spaces with all those syllables. You do some fine (almost) rapping. Guitar sounds are rich.
You excited about your trip to California?
lavalamp
hats off. i agree.

Michael's points are well-taken.
I, too, was pulling into the carwash at the start there, and then Syd Barrett showed up to wax my headlights. Crazy.
Cool song; can't wait to hear the redo.
lavalamp
I'm looking forward to getting busy on the redo. Please stand by.

THIS R O C K S. . ! !! LOVE the beat in it its SO cool -in the beginning it does remind of some sixtiessound/Jimi Hendrix?!? ..feels like along time since I heard this kind of beat !! Love it got totally hooked from the second it started .. the combination of Your singing (& the lyrics) with the music...is soo cool (!) ...Am I looking fwd to hearing this redone !!! More bass would be cool when You're singing, more "fullness" in the vox is what I'd wish for.. : ) A REAL TREAT & I was insired by the photo too it's very beautiful !
tx !

...... all day long. then it became a reality. what brand on wah is this?
yeah this definatley worth a update even though it is cool as is.
i hear the point about the hi hat. vocal level i don't mind as much. my headphones tend to pick them up better than most.
All in all Dave, it has been cool to catch some of the lost jems.
lavalamp
It's a Vox Wah Wah, it clicks too much. Have to get it fixed. I'm gonna make this one nicer...you'll see.

This song is cool! So much potential, I do look forward to your revamp. Nice wah intro / extro. Vocals perfect, not much to pick at really - ending a bit abrupt. loud Hihat already commented upon.
One thing I thought might have been neat would be to somehow build the intensity from one verse to the next, like adding an instrument, or maybe even some loud wah guitar interspersed with the last verse. Maybe that's just because I've been thinking about how to incorporate that technique into a song of my own...
lavalamp
Thanks for the advice Relic, I really appreciated it.
Dave
kassia
love it dave. can't wait to hear the stuff you send our way with the new year!
kassia
kate yelled from the other room...."I love that!"
lavalamp
Kate loves it. Way cool. Thanks to both of you!

whats not to like.. I had a day dream excellent!!!!!!!!!!!
estellie
Personally, I like the piano that's currently hidden behind it all. I'd want that up front and heavier, like a Ben Folds would do, only yours would be totally different.
Your vocal performance is good on this one. The drums kind of distract from that.
P.S. I wish I could promise not to record poorly in the next year, but alas, I cannot :P
guitapick
...this is a cool setup...looking forward to the re-do...but this has a great groove...that's the basic that's most important...love the wah and the transitions
jiguma
What a crispy crunchy production Dave!
Barry White, eat your heart out (vocals haven't started yet!).
Now sounding very British - I like this a lot.

I really like your sound.. =)
lavalamp
But this was done in 2004. My sound has probably changed a bit. Also, I didn't produce this one. But, I did write it and perform it. So thanks.
Hope you stop by more often.

Sigh... I wish I wrote this!
lavalamp
