Description:
Moving up the line, this will be my last post to introduce the playing and style of PPTKO in 1998. I am tempted to also post a song called "sneaking up from behind" and one called "As it Burns", because I think what blue was is not something you can describe with 1 or 2 songs. But I also want to move ahead. Maybe I'll be back.

The blue years were essentially the "live years" and also were the "formative years" of the boy who grew to a man who puts time of his life into music. If these years hadn't happened, and didn't happen the way they did, I would never have had the notion or the guts to continue producing my own stuff. I haven't gotten enormously popular (can you use the word enormous to describe something that is essentially zero? I just did it! Stretch the truth man, stretch the truth!). But I feel like I have made some progress and I hope that is evident as we go forward. When I'm done with this there will be a linear testament here that potential collaborators can check out.

This song, "Necessary Pain" used to generate requests at shows. I am not sure why, but for whatever reason people seemed to like it and want to hear it. This is a song about family and about loss. It's about how some things hurt, but can't be avoided. It's about coping with reality. Admit it, move on.

Lyrics:
i can't remember a thing
you should know
i was only five years old
you can't lose what you have
when you really don't have at all
you really should know
would you please listen to me
i don't want it to be this way
but you're asking for pain
you want to get back lost time
you're crazy it's too late for this
i'd like to ask you to try
but why bother
don't have a brother there's nothing to miss
it's a necessary pain
BUT YOU MAKE IT SO HARD
WHY
I DON'T KNOW WHY
YOU MAKE IT SO HARD
just get off my back
i've got a load without this you see
and you're making it harder for me
it's a necessary pain

Hardware:
The usual. Drums on this recording were written and played by Nate Thompson, the drummer from the first live band. Other stuff was by me and it was the usual stuff I had back then. Nothing special!!!

Software:
Commodore Vic 20 running "States and Capitals" from tape drive. (just kidding)

Man ....
You really have a unique sound and style along with a great voice, I really enjoy my visits to your page. I am a true fan and you're one of the few here I would actually buy an album from because of the uniqueness of "chronologic."
Peace

Nail on the head
Thanks much for the support and comment. You really hit home with this comment for me. I really struggle with this as you might have been able to tell. I have always tried hard (really hard) to balance the desire to be new and creative with kind of staying on the path of what people expect. If you're too crazy and weird then nobody wants to give you the time of day, and if you are too normal and expected, then nobody wants to give you the time of day! I guess this is what all artists in all walks of life deal with really. The function of art is to be creative and push the envelope, while at the same time remember that you have to REACH people and TOUCH their heart. In some ways our present culture and expectations are always relevant. Knowing how to reach people is just not easy. And frankly it's all I really want to do with my music. I want the music touch people and have them feel something. I want my stuff to feel real to them, genuine you know. So I just try to touch on what matters to me and I hope that makes it real enough that it could matter to other people too. That's what I am looking for in music and it's what I try to create. You give me hope!!!!!

Nail......
Me too lol. Although you seem to have a better handle on it than I. Artists like you make me re evaluate what I am trying to do with my music, and as of late I really have been leaning to the "what people expect" side ha ha. I thank you for your friendship and advice. I value your perspective.
Peace
Guy
