Description
This song, which I learned from singer John Betmead in the 1960s, is from Zimbabwe- known as Rhodesia in those somewhat rosier days. John had it from the songwriter, whose name I never knew. Good fun to play!

Many thanks, Feter! We had lots of friends in Zimbabwe but don't know what's become of them now. The song is a reminder of more stable times.

The Zoom was good and portable- I bought it before we had a computer- but GarageBand is so much easier to manage, especially for multi-tracking, so I've sold it. I know what you mean about gadgets!

Some English
Cool song. It somehow has an English quality to it.

Great guitar sound. The bass is a bit weak. It's sometimes hard to make out what or ever whether it's playing Considering the character of the song I would have put a tuba or something on the bass. Or maybe double that upright with a tuba/sousaphone/bass trombone/something like that. It's a trick that you come across every once in a while. Supertramp on Breakfast in America, and The Band on Rag Mama Rag.

Thanks, Victor. This is a demo recording which wasn't really supposed to see the light of day. I played it recently and it didn't sound so bad after all so I thought someone else might like it! The 'bass' you can hardly hear is my voice. The Zoom recorder was really hard to balance multiple sounds - the more tracks I recorded the more distant the previous tracks became! I used it as a reminder of possible arrangements until we bought a computer. I like your idea of tuba!

Many thanks, cas, I appreciate your comments. Listening to the song again today has made me want to re-record it in splendid stereo with a better bass and a more clarity. Whenever I sing this I think of some young friends from Zimbabwe, no longer with us.
